    Small attentive clean but pricey

I chose Serenity Gardens for my loved one and found a warm, home-like, very clean facility with about 16 residents, private rooms, beautiful grounds, and genuinely caring staff who make amazing meals and encourage participation. Director Rusty is hands-on and often responsive, staff provide individualized dementia care and go above and beyond to build trust and keep residents safe. Downsides I saw: nights can be understaffed, activities were limited during COVID, there were occasional communication/management lapses (and a few concerning care incidents reported), and it's on the pricey side. Overall I'd recommend it for personalized, family-style memory care if you value attentive staff and a small community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Serenity Gardens - Friendswood is strongly positive, with a large majority of reviewers praising the staff, atmosphere, and individualized memory care. Many families describe the caregivers as compassionate, attentive, and genuinely caring; reviewers repeatedly note that staff "go above and beyond," provide one-on-one attention, and create a warm, family-like community. The facility's smaller size (reviews repeatedly reference a community of about 16 residents) is framed as a strength: it enables personalized care, close socialization among residents, and the hands-on involvement of the director (named Rusty in multiple reviews) and active owners. Several reviewers explicitly state they would highly recommend the community and describe residents as feeling safe, well cared for, and happy.

Staff and care quality are the most frequently praised aspects. Reviewers highlight dementia-specific expertise and creative approaches to memory care; families cite trust-building, safety, and staff dedication as major positives. The director's direct involvement — including personal visits to residents and family members (for example, visiting a resident in the hospital) — is mentioned as a differentiator that fosters confidence. Many testimonials emphasize immediate updates, clear responsiveness in day-to-day matters, and staff who treat residents "like family." These strengths are balanced, however, by a subset of reviews that report inconsistent care quality and concerns about medical competency.

Facilities and dining receive consistent praise: the building is described as beautiful, always clean, and well maintained. Private bedrooms and pleasant outdoor areas (patio) are noted, although some reviewers mention the facility has older, remodeled sections and smaller rooms in places. Dining is repeatedly called out as a positive feature — reviewers mention "incredible meals" and that they have "never had complaints about food." Celebrations such as birthdays and regular social activities are singled out as creating an engaging, home-like atmosphere.

Activities and resident life are generally seen as strong, with many reviewers noting engaging activities, exercise opportunities, games, and active resident participation. However, multiple reviewers noted a reduction in activities during COVID, and a few return visits observed fewer offerings than initially seen (e.g., board games no longer available). While the small community enables one-on-one attention and socialization, the limited staff size occasionally translates into fewer or inconsistent activity offerings.

Management, staffing, and safety present a mixed picture. Several reviewers praise prompt communication and the hands-on involvement of the director and owners. Conversely, other reviews report unresponsiveness from management and request more regular care meetings and updates. A significant concern raised by multiple reviewers is nighttime staffing: one specific report states the night shift was overwhelmed caring for 16 memory care residents, indicating potential understaffing at night. Medical and maintenance issues were raised by a minority of reviewers, including reports of inexperienced medical care, inconsistencies in medication administration over time, and serious care/maintenance problems such as pressure sores attributed to wheelchair restraints. These safety-related comments are notable because they contrast sharply with the many positive accounts; they suggest variability in clinical oversight and maintenance practices that prospective families should probe further.

Patterns and guidance emerging from the reviews: most reviewers experience compassionate, individualized care in a clean, home-like setting with good meals and engaging social life. The community's small size and involved leadership are repeatedly cited as key advantages. Nevertheless, there are recurring caveats about staffing levels (especially at night), occasional lapses in medical competence or maintenance, inconsistent managerial responsiveness, and activity reductions during COVID. Prospective families should consider asking specific questions about night staffing ratios and protocols, staff medical training and supervision, pressure-sore prevention and wound care processes, the frequency of family-care conferences and routine communication, and the current activity schedule. In sum, Serenity Gardens - Friendswood is portrayed by many as a caring, high-quality memory care option with a family atmosphere and strong hands-on leadership, but a small number of serious safety and staffing concerns indicate the importance of direct inquiry and observation before making a placement decision.

    About Serenity Gardens - Friendswood

Serenity Gardens - Friendswood sits in a neighborhood setting on W. Willowick Ave, giving a comfortable and home-like feel. The staff include caregivers who speak English and are on hand around the clock, looking after residents like family, and the facility's not corporate-owned, so people often build stronger bonds here. With a licensed capacity for 16 people, folks get more direct attention and help, whether they need assisted living, memory care, dementia care, skilled nursing, or board and care services. The rooms are furnished, and some include kitchenettes, while studio layouts are available for those who want them, and everyone can bring along a pet if they're able to care for it, which gives that extra sense of home for many.

There's always staff present overnight, plus they're trained for wheelchair transfers and emergency evacuations and can help anyone who can't follow directions during a crisis. Residents can get help with daily activities like bathing, grooming, medication, and moving around, and their medical needs get managed right along with coordination from outside healthcare teams. Housekeeping and laundry run like clockwork, which keeps everyone clean and comfortable, and meal planning gets handled by chefs who know how to prepare special diets so people eat nutritious, home-cooked food, served in the dining room or with family-style dining where everyone gathers together.

For people living with Alzheimer's or mild cognitive impairments, there's a memory care program with daily mental exercises, scheduled activities, family events, games, and music. The facility's designed so residents feel safe, with secure spaces to prevent confusion and wandering, and caregivers stay nearby at all times, especially in the designated dementia care area. Community life's active, too, with amenities like walking paths, a garden, a beautician, and regular movie nights. Transportation's available for group outings or doctor visits, and the staff organize activities based on residents' interests and abilities, which can include educational events and fun holiday celebrations.

Serenity Gardens has a license from the state of Texas (number 149626) and keeps a 9.4 out of 10 average resident rating, which makes it the second highest rated community in Friendswood right now. The family-centered atmosphere and smaller size let people get to know each other, and the pet-friendly policy adds to the homey feeling, while the staff work hard every day to deliver friendly, respectful care and a supported lifestyle for everyone, whether they're here for assisted living, memory care, or hospice waivers.
