    Compassionate care but inconsistent safety

I've had a 360-degree experience here: at times the nurses, aides and administration were compassionate, attentive, provided good meals, thoughtful PT and supportive end-of-life care. But I also witnessed rude/unprofessional staff, hygiene and safety problems (feces left, urine smell, cockroaches, broken furniture, belongings misplaced), inconsistent care that nearly caused harm, and surprise rate increases with poor communication. New management and improved nursing have helped, but the inconsistency means I'd advise caution.

    About Avir at Irving

Avir at Irving offers different types of care under one roof, so people can move through the levels they need as time goes on, starting with independent living for more active folks who still want support, and then there's assisted living for help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, medication management, and meals, with nursing staff on call for 12 to 16 hours a day and 24-hour supervision and call systems to keep everybody safe, and then if memory becomes a problem, Avir at Irving has memory care too, with areas kept secure for people with Alzheimer's or dementia, round-the-clock help, memory-enhancing activities, and a Safe Transition Home Program that guides residents when they need to return home after a hospital stay or health event. Residents might stay in semi-private or one-bedroom living spaces in assisted living or memory care, or even fully furnished private rooms with their own bathrooms and kitchenettes, and services like housekeeping and linen care keep things easy, while the place also covers board and care in nearby homes for those who want a quieter setting. Skilled nursing care is on offer for those who need full medical support or help with things like wounds and rehabilitation, with a therapy team handling physical, occupational, and speech therapies, and fancy new rehab equipment in their dedicated center, plus post-hospital rehab for those on the mend and long-term nursing care for those who need daily medical oversight. Physical therapy, a wellness center run by the community, and safe, supervised gardens and outdoor spaces let people get fresh air or stay active, and a busy calendar offers resident-run activities, fitness classes, games, and more. There's cable TV and Wi-Fi, a computer center to stay connected, a small library, a beauty salon for a haircut, and fitness and game rooms for daily use. When folks want a good meal they'll find restaurant-style dining with options for special diets like diabetes, and snacks made easy with full meal prep and service. Community transport helps with outings, and staff can arrange rides as needed for errands. Air conditioning keeps rooms comfortable, and help's always nearby for bathing, transfers, or anything else. Respite care lets families get a break, and daily life feels safe with regular checks from staff. Residents get to age in place here, with choices for independent apartment living, support with simple needs, or skilled care for the tough times, and the staff calls things by simple names like Safe Transition Home Program and keeps everyone supported with activities, therapies, and hands-on help as needed.
