    Lovely community but maintenance concerns

I moved into Watermere and love the beautiful, well-designed apartments, active social life, and truly caring staff-people like Maria went above and beyond and residents are warm and welcoming. Activities, concierge services, gym and pool support an easy, vibrant transition. That said, persistent maintenance and cleanliness problems (frequently broken elevators and pool, dirty carpets/walls/doors, spotty housekeeping), inconsistent dining, and little after-hours management presence (desk staff without computer access) raise real value concerns. Overall it's a lovely, friendly community, but ask tough questions about upkeep and dining before you commit.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of Watermere at the Preserve are predominantly positive with strong, repeated praise for staff, apartment quality, amenities, location and the social environment. Many reviewers emphasize that the staff are friendly, professional and willing to go above and beyond—several name Maria Rosas specifically as an outstanding team member. The building design, spacious units (notably large two-bedroom apartments and exceptionally large kitchens), tasteful decor, underground parking and convenient elevator access are frequent selling points. Residents and visitors describe a resort-like, tranquil environment with attractive grounds and private garden areas that contribute to a strong sense of community and belonging.

Staff and care quality: The staffing experience is the most consistently praised aspect. Sales counselors and receptionists receive accolades for being knowledgeable, helpful and welcoming; multiple reviewers call out specific employees (Maria, Stacy) for exemplary, personalized service that eased tours and move-ins. Respondents report responsive executive leadership in many cases, with an executive director who solves problems and staff who make families and new residents feel comfortable. In-house services such as physical therapy, hearing tests and accommodating transportation are highlighted as valuable conveniences that enhance daily living. That said, there are notes of staff turnover in some roles and isolated operational glitches since move-in.

Facilities and apartments: The physical plant and apartment offerings attract many positive remarks. Units are described as bright, spacious, well-designed and tastefully decorated with stainless-steel appliances and large closets. Features such as underground parking, easy elevator access, indoor heated pool and a beautiful gym are frequently cited. Some reviewers love the villas and private gardens and praise the overall architecture and landscaping. However, there are location-specific tradeoffs: courtyard-facing or interior units may receive insufficient sunlight, and two-bedroom units have been reported as limited in availability during some periods.

Dining, housekeeping and cleanliness: Dining elicits mixed feedback. Several reviewers find the food good but not outstanding and express frustration over limited meal variety and a dining-dollar limit that restricts choices; a number of residents end up preparing most meals themselves. Dining service consistency varies—some note friendly dining staff and a social dining-room atmosphere, while others report dissatisfaction with menu options. Housekeeping and cleaning are recurring concerns for a subset of reviewers: reports include dirty walls and doors, filthy carpets, vacuuming that stirs dust into carpets and the HVAC system, and generally spotty housekeeping service. These cleanliness complaints contrast with many descriptions of clean, well-appointed common areas and should be considered notable but not uniformly reported.

Activities and community life: Activity offerings get generally strong marks—many reviewers praise a robust activities calendar, social events, parties and an engaging activities team that help residents meet people and form friendships. Several reviewers describe lasting friendships, a vibrant community spirit, and purposeful programming that supports an active lifestyle. A minority note that some activities do not align with their personal interests or that an activities director change introduced a period of adjustment (including comments about the new director being younger). Overall, social opportunities and the sheer variety of events are frequently cited as a major plus.

Management, maintenance and operational concerns: While leadership and some management staff are praised for responsiveness, there are recurring operational issues to be aware of. Maintenance problems are repeatedly mentioned: elevators and the pool have gone out of service at times, and respondents described glitches such as the pool heater being broken or kept unusually warm at 82 degrees. After-hours desk limitations are another operational concern—desk staff reportedly cannot access the building computer system after 5 PM, preventing them from assisting with certain requests. Some reviewers perceive inconsistent management presence within the building and cite uneven maintenance responsiveness. These problems appear intermittent but notable because they affect daily life and safety-related amenities (elevators, pool and HVAC).

Value, pricing and third-party referral concerns: Several reviewers raise value and pricing concerns. Comments range from positive assessments of price-for-size and location to worries about fairness, limited middle-class options, and perceived favoritism toward donors. Another clear pattern involves A Place for Mom: multiple summaries mention misrepresentation or dissatisfaction with that referral service and confusion about whether Watermere is affiliated with A Place for Mom. One specific complaint is that Watermere is not linked with A Place for Mom as presented, prompting caution for prospective residents using referral services. Availability issues were also reported—two-bedroom units may be sold out at times and only one-bedroom units remain, which affects budgeting and household arrangements (e.g., monthly price for two people).

Bottom line and recommendations: Watermere at the Preserve is viewed by many reviewers as an excellent facility with standout staff, attractive apartments and strong social programming. If you prioritize staff attentiveness, large units, on-site therapy and a vibrant activity schedule, Watermere ranks highly. Prospective residents should, however, probe specific operational areas during tours: ask about housekeeping standards and frequency, how maintenance requests are handled, the reliability of elevators and the pool, after-hours desk capabilities, and current dining options and limitations (including dining-dollar policies). Also clarify unit availability (especially two-bedroom units), exact pricing for two occupants, and any referral-service relationships. Those steps will help confirm whether the broadly positive atmosphere and amenities align with your expectations and whether any intermittent operational issues have been resolved.
