    Homey atmosphere, friendly staff, renovated

I've been a resident for four years and love the small, homey atmosphere - directors are involved and the staff are consistently friendly, sincere, and helpful. The facility is clean, the food is good, activities are engaging, and my recently renovated apartment (new floors, paint, fridge and sink) is lovely; the only drawback is that staffing could be a bit larger.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews present Hickory Terrace as a well-maintained, small, and homey senior living community with an overwhelmingly positive sentiment. Multiple reviewers highlight cleanliness, pleasant and caring staff, and a social atmosphere that residents enjoy. Several specific items are repeatedly noted — good food, engaging activities, and recently updated living spaces — which together convey a facility that pays attention to both physical upkeep and resident quality of life.

Care quality and staff: The strongest and most consistent theme across reviews is the quality of the staff and the personal care residents receive. Staff are described with words such as friendly, sincere, delightful, courteous, helpful, and kind. Reviewers explicitly note positive treatment of family members (for example, "positive treatment of mom") and long-term satisfaction (one reviewer has been a resident for four years). Directors and management are described as involved, which supports a sense of attentive leadership. The consistent praise for staff suggests good day-to-day interpersonal care and responsiveness, although one review implies that additional staffing could further improve operations.

Facilities and apartments: Physical facilities receive favorable comments. The community is described as clean and "homey," with "nice rooms". One apartment was recently renovated — floors redone and painted — and in-unit features such as a refrigerator and sink were called out positively. The small size of the community is framed as a benefit in the reviews, contributing to a cozy, close-knit environment where residents enjoy being together.

Dining and activities: Dining and activity programming are clearly strengths. "Good food" is mentioned directly by multiple reviewers, and an "engaging activities area" is noted, with residents enjoying social interaction. These points indicate that both nourishment and structured opportunities for engagement are available and appreciated, contributing to residents' satisfaction and social well-being.

Management, patterns, and notable examples: The combination of involved directors, consistently praised staff, and repeat/resident-family endorsements (a four-year resident and a family planning a move-in) create a pattern of trust and sustained satisfaction. Descriptions such as "great facility" and repeated positive adjectives across reviews reinforce the sense of an overall well-run, resident-centered community.

Concerns and areas for improvement: Negative comments are limited but specific. One operational concern is staffing levels — a reviewer suggested that the staffing size could be increased. That may point to occasional understaffing or a desire for more staff to support activities, care, or responsiveness. Another minor issue is seasonal exterior maintenance: the presence of leaves on the exterior due to weather was noted, which suggests opportunities to improve outdoor upkeep or seasonal landscaping services. Both concerns are relatively narrow in scope compared with the many positive remarks but are worth addressing to maintain high satisfaction.

Conclusion and recommendations: In summary, Hickory Terrace appears to deliver strong day-to-day care, warm staff interactions, good dining, and meaningful activities within a clean, recently updated, and intimate setting. The most useful, concrete improvements would be reviewing staffing levels to ensure consistent coverage and addressing seasonal exterior maintenance. Addressing these limited concerns would likely reinforce the largely positive resident and family experience reflected in the reviews.

    About Hickory Terrace

Hickory Terrace sits at 717 South Alamo Road in Levelland, Texas, and has both studio and one-bedroom apartments with modern touches like kitchenettes, bathrooms with safety features, cable wiring, and climate control, and the private apartments have lots of space for personal items and comfortable spots to relax, and some even have porches or easy access to a courtyard where gardens and walking paths stretch out, and residents can meet on outdoor patios or join a group to garden or walk in the open air, or even bring along a pet since the place allows some pets and has a secured dog park. Meal service runs daily and residents can get room service or eat in a dining room where staff serve chef-prepared meals, sometimes with a sample dining menu out, and everything stays tidy because housekeeping and laundry run on a regular schedule, so apartments stay clean, sheets are fresh, and families don't have to worry about chores, and if anyone wants a haircut or shave, the hair salon and barber shop are right on the premises. For comfort and social time, there's a living room with a fireplace and piano, multipurpose activity rooms for games and crafts, and lounges where neighbors gather for bingo, card games, or story time, and folks can join a resident musical group if they want to.

Staff at Hickory Terrace provide a range of support, including help with showering, dressing, grooming, getting around with walkers or wheelchairs, and taking medications properly, and there's a full-time registered nurse on site day and night to develop care plans or handle urgent situations, so medical needs like blood work or medication delivery get managed right there without anyone needing to leave the community, and if medical needs increase, options like hospice services or memory care become available. People living in this community don't always have to worry about driving, because the staff offer transportation for errands, medical visits, trips to the shopping center, or park visits, and they've checked employees' driving records, plus provide paid rides when needed. The team goes through ethics training, and both male and female caregivers are on staff, and Hickory Terrace accepts credit card payments and guest parking sits nearby, with some guest accommodations available for a fee when family visits overnight.

For those who enjoy being active, Hickory Terrace runs exercise classes, group wellness programs like Qigong, game nights, board games, daily arts and crafts, and regular outings to local shops and parks, and there's always something to do indoors or outside, with planned activities and live entertainment on the calendar and easy access to outdoor spaces for time in fresh air. The community supports all kinds of living-including independent living, assisted living, Alzheimer's and memory care, home health, and respite stays, and develops individual care plans for anyone who needs extra help for a while, like after a hospital visit or when families need a break. Staff help with benefits paperwork like VA assistance. Residents can use the English language program or take part in spiritual services offered on-site, and housekeeping, home maintenance, linen service, laundry, and regular apartment cleaning are already part of the monthly rates. The apartments have safety features like smoke detectors and sprinkler systems, window treatments, and indoor mailboxes, and the building uses good-quality construction throughout for comfort year-round.

The atmosphere at Hickory Terrace leans homey and relaxed, with plenty of common rooms, lounges, a robust activity schedule, outdoor amenities, and support available whenever needed, while still letting residents maintain as much independence as they want, and a sense of harmony and well-being is a focus for everyone living there. Enlivant, which has run senior communities since 1981, operates this location, and the staff try to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. Hickory Terrace is licensed by the state, has both cable and internet available, and supports a wide variety of care and daily assistance in a no-fuss, supportive way.
