    Caring welcoming safe clean attentive

My mom has lived here three years and I couldn't be happier - the staff are genuinely caring, attentive and respectful, leadership is strong, and the small, home-like setting feels safe and welcoming. The clean, spacious apartments, delicious home-cooked meals (ice cream and pie are hits), many activities/outings, medication monitoring, transportation and on-site services make day-to-day living easy. This is a compassionate, great-value community for fairly independent seniors - I highly recommend it (not for those needing heavy medical care).

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on the quality of staff, the home-like environment, and the sense of safety and satisfaction experienced by residents and families. A dominant theme is that staff are friendly, compassionate and genuinely invested in residents' well-being. Reviewers repeatedly note one-on-one attention, respectful and dignified treatment, proactive communication, and staff who go above and beyond. Several comments single out specific staff behaviors—helping with appointments, trusted medication administration, and developing personal relationships—that contribute to a feeling of peace of mind for families.

The facility itself is characterized as a smaller, ranch-style or bed-and-breakfast-like home rather than an institutional setting. Multiple reviews describe clean, spacious apartments and suites with private bathrooms, large walk-in closets, and in-room amenities such as TV, computer and music. The atmosphere is consistently described as cozy, intimate and well-maintained, with pleasant grounds (big pecan trees) and a décor that supports a family-style culture. This smaller scale is cited as a strength: it allows family involvement, personal attention, and a familiar atmosphere that many residents enjoy.

Dining and daily-life offerings are frequent highlights. Reviewers praise home-cooked meals, nutritious menus, and special touches like ice cream after dinner and homemade apple pie. There are consistently three meals a day, laundry service, and extras such as an on-site hair salon. Staff support extends to transportation and accompaniment to medical appointments, and the presence of a visiting physician is noted favorably. These practical services, combined with trusted medication monitoring, contribute to the facility being seen as safe and supportive.

Activities and social life receive strong positive mention. Reviewers report extensive activities, outings, shopping trips, outside group visits, and family-focused events such as holiday lunches. The facility appears to offer a lively calendar that suits many independent residents and encourages social engagement. Families often appreciate the opportunity to participate in events and to remain involved in their loved one’s care.

Management and culture are also praised. Multiple reviews reference caring, passionate leadership and strong management; one name (Carol) is mentioned as trusted leadership. Reviewers describe a loving, fun and supportive culture, and several note they would choose the facility again or already recommend it highly to friends. Long-term residency and repeated recommendations suggest consistent performance over time.

However, a clear and important pattern in the reviews is that this facility is best suited to residents who are relatively independent or require assisted living-level supports, not high-acuity nursing care. Several reviewers explicitly note that the home is not appropriate for people who need more intensive medical or personal care; one reviewer reported that their mother did not receive needed care, and there is at least one mention of eligibility concerns tied to an emergency self-evacuation requirement (within 13 minutes). The small size, while a strength for personalization, also means limited capacity—multiple reviews mention a waiting list and lack of current openings. A few reviewers raise budget concerns, though many call the facility affordable and good value.

In summary, Assisted Living Lockhart 1017 Bois D'Arc is consistently portrayed as a warm, well-run, small assisted living home with devoted staff, quality meals, strong family involvement, and a range of social activities that support resident independence and happiness. Its strengths are personalized care, a home-like environment, and practical services that reassure families. The primary limitations are capacity constraints and suitability for residents with higher medical needs; prospective families should evaluate clinical requirements and eligibility criteria carefully. For independent or lightly assisted seniors seeking a cozy, community-oriented setting, the reviews indicate this facility is highly recommended by many residents and families.

About Assisted Living Lockhart 1017 Bois D'Arc

Assisted Living Lockhart 1017 Bois D'Arc sits in Lockhart, Texas, at 1017 Bois d'Arc Street, tucked beneath big Pecan trees where folks can sit out on the covered front porch or relax on the back deck that's private and shaded. This place keeps things small, with only sixteen suites, so residents can count on more help and attention than what you'd find in bigger places. Each suite feels a bit like a small apartment, coming with a living room, bedroom, big walk-in closet, and a private bathroom with a large walk-in shower and safety rails, and residents can bring their own furniture and keepsakes, making each space feel familiar and cozy.

People who live here get help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and managing their medicines. The staff is led by Carol Scheffler, who, along with a team of familiar caregivers, is always around to make sure folks are comfortable day and night. Meals are made fresh every day and served "family style" in the dining room, so people get food that fits their needs, and there's always someone checking on medical or nutritional concerns. Both cats and dogs can live here too, which can make things feel more like home.

There's a focus on community and togetherness, with two large social areas, a smaller, private sitting room, a grand piano at the front door, and plenty of places for group activities, crafts, music, and exercise. Trips and field outings happen regularly, and folks can take a Town Car service for local doctor visits or errands around town. Residents get free Wi-Fi and cable TV, plus regular housekeeping and valet laundry services, and the all-inclusive pricing means there aren't any surprise fees popping up.

The building keeps a warm feel because it's a remodeled house and still looks and feels like one, and you'll see that in the homey decor that echoes the old architecture. The place is licensed, number 103391, and pays special attention to making sure safety's handled, with thoughtful design and support. Peace of mind comes easy, because there are always caregivers nearby and everything on site's aimed at making residents feel at ease, whether they're joining in activities or enjoying time with family, neighbors, and pets.
