    Homey caring staff, excellent care

I've had my mom here almost three years. It's a small, 16-bed, homey place in a peaceful rural setting - very clean and staff genuinely care, know residents by name, give one-on-one attention, accommodate hospice, communicate well with family, and even the manager plays guitar for residents; there are activities, homemade meals, a friendly dog, and a family feel. Downsides for us: the size means few people on weekends to play games, it's relatively expensive and a bit far, and some walls show wear, so it wasn't the right fit for our loved one despite excellent care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is predominantly positive, with recurring praise focused on the quality of personal care, the staff, and the facility’s clean, home-like atmosphere. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the small 16-bed size is a core strength: it facilitates individualized, one-on-one attention, allows staff to learn residents by name, and supports family-oriented communication. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, genuine, caring, and capable — comments include helpfulness, strong interpersonal interactions, and accommodation of hospice needs. The presence of long-term residents (almost three years in one note) and statements that residents appear happy or content reinforce a pattern of sustained satisfaction among families and residents.

The physical environment and amenities receive largely favorable comments. Reviewers call the building clean, well-kept, and free of unpleasant odors. Rooms are described as adequate and kept very clean; the dining area is noted as nice. The rural, peaceful location with trees and a resident dog contributes to a homey, calming atmosphere. Personal touches such as the manager playing guitar for residents and healthy homemade meals help create a warm, personalized experience. Activities are available and described as varied, which complements the small-scale, community feel.

However, the small size that supports individualized care also creates some trade-offs. A frequently mentioned downside is that there may not be enough residents for social activities at certain times — for example, fewer people available to play games on weekends. A few reviewers explicitly said the community was not the right fit for their loved one even though they had no specific complaints about the quality of care. Practical concerns also arise: some families note the facility’s distance from their homes, and there are consistent mentions of relatively high pricing, summarized by comments such as "you get what you pay for." A few cosmetic issues are raised (wear and scuffed walls), indicating that while overall cleanliness is high, some maintenance or cosmetic updates may be needed.

Management and reputation show mixed signals in the reviews. Many direct-care staff and the on-site manager receive strong praise, but some reviewers raise concerns about ownership or corporate aspects: remarks include a perception of a profit-driven or "smug" owner, the facility becoming a franchise, and references to "many bad reviews" posted elsewhere. These are allegation-based and appear less uniformly reported than the positive staff and care themes, but they are notable as recurring concerns for prospective families who weigh organizational stability and reputation in their decision.

In summary, Valiente Senior Living is frequently characterized as a small, clean, rural, family-oriented community with warm, attentive staff and a high level of individualized care. Strengths are the personal attention, hospice friendliness, good communication with families, and a comfortable home-like environment enhanced by homemade meals and small-community touches. Potential buyers should weigh trade-offs: the small population can limit peer socialization at times, pricing is on the higher side, there are minor cosmetic wear issues, and there are some concerns about ownership/reputation reported by a subset of reviewers. For families seeking close personal care in a peaceful, homelike setting and who can manage travel distance and cost, the facility appears to be a strong fit; for those seeking larger social communities or lower-priced options, it may be less suitable.
