    Neglect infestation threats awful management

I lived here and it was horrible. Staff and nursing were terrible and overworked, management was awful and ignored me - they threatened dismissal if I reported problems or filmed incidents. My room had no AC/heat, leaky windows, and the building is infested with roaches and rats; cleaning and basic care were neglected, staff flirted instead of caring, employees were fired amid rumors of a name change, and residents in serious condition were left without proper attention. I want this place shut down.

    Summary review

The reviews present a consistently negative picture of Rockwood Manor, with multiple reviewers describing severe problems across care, staffing, facility maintenance, and management practices. The most acute themes are infestation and hygiene issues — roaches and rats are explicitly reported — and an overall lack of cleaning and basic environmental upkeep. Several reviews state that rooms lack functioning climate control (no AC or heat) and have leaky windows, which compounds concerns about resident comfort and building maintenance. These facility-condition complaints are concrete and repeat across summaries, suggesting persistent infrastructure and housekeeping failures.

Care quality and clinical safety are central and alarming themes. Reviewers report inadequate nursing care, mentions of septic conditions attributable to improper care, and at least one phrase connecting residents on life support with substandard oversight. These claims point to potential clinical neglect and infection-risk scenarios. Combined with statements that staff instruct residents not to ring the desk for help and allegations that reporting issues results in threats or dismissal, the reviews depict an environment where residents' health needs may go unmet and where channels for raising safety concerns are constrained or punished.

Staffing and professionalism are repeatedly criticized. Reviewers describe staff as overworked and understaffed, which helps explain lapses in care. There are allegations of unprofessional behavior — for example, staff flirting rather than attending to residents — and named personnel (Crystal and Cathy) are singled out in some complaints. Several reviews describe management practices that encourage silence: staff or residents are allegedly warned that recording video of incidents will lead to discharge or that reporting problems to management or the state will result in dismissal. There are also reports of staff being fired and rumors of staff relocating or of a rebranding/name change to 'Rock,' which may indicate turmoil or attempts to obscure reputation issues.

Management and governance emerge as a major area of concern. Reviewers use terms such as 'awful management' and 'not listening to me,' and explicitly allege retaliation for whistleblowing. This pattern suggests systemic problems in complaint handling, transparency, and regulatory responsiveness. The combination of ignored complaints, threats for reporting, and warnings against documenting incidents creates an atmosphere of fear and inhibits accountability — a critical red flag in long-term care settings where oversight is essential for resident safety.

There is little to no positive information in the summaries provided. No dining, activities, rehabilitation, or positive staff interactions are mentioned; instead, reviewers express frustration and in some cases call for the facility to be shut down. The volume and severity of the concerns — infestations, environmental failures, clinical safety issues (including sepsis), staffing shortages, retaliation, and unprofessional conduct — together form a pattern that reviewers perceive as systemic rather than isolated incidents.

In conclusion, the reviews indicate pervasive and serious problems at Rockwood Manor across multiple domains: facility condition and hygiene, care quality and clinical safety, staffing levels and professionalism, and management practices that appear to discourage reporting and accountability. These issues warrant urgent, independent investigation by regulators or oversight bodies. For prospective residents or family members, the reviews suggest exercising extreme caution: verify regulatory inspection reports, staffing ratios, infection-control records, and complaint/disciplinary histories before considering placement. For authorities and advocates, these reports raise sufficient concern to prompt targeted inspections, infection-control audits, and a review of complaint handling and whistleblower protections at the facility.

    About Rockwood Manor

Rockwood Manor sits on 68 acres in Midland, Texas, and has a license from Texas's Department of Social Services, number 4982, so you'll find it's operated to meet state requirements, and the place can take care of as many as 120 older adults at one time, with a focus on memory care for folks with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia, plus short- and long-term nursing, assisted living, hospice care, and respite stays, so it really covers just about every need you can think of when someone can't care for themselves at home. The campus has studio rooms and big suites with private bathrooms and whirlpool tubs, air conditioning, kitchenettes, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and emergency alert systems; everything is designed to feel home-like and keep folks comfortable, and there are secured, alarmed areas if someone's at risk for wandering, which is a big help for safety. Rockwood Manor stands out because it customizes care plans and activity schedules pretty often, since everyone has different needs and preferences, and there's always a licensed nurse on hand 12-16 hours a day, plus round-the-clock staff, with a fast response call system, so help is always close by.

Daily life here can be pretty full, since there's always something going on if residents want to join in, with music therapy, pet visits, games, crafts, exercise and fitness programs designed for whatever energy level folks have, and scheduled outings, sometimes just in the scenic yard spaces and walking paths or sometimes out to places nearby, like the local café or pharmacy right up the road, and now and then there are special events and packages, even weddings and receptions sometimes on the grounds, since the campus is big enough to host them. There are movie nights in the on-site theater, hot tubs and steam rooms for those who want a little extra comfort, and recreation and activity rooms where music, art, and reading fill the days, plus a book room for anyone who likes quiet time with a good story. The staff offers rides to doctor's appointments, runs errands, and arranges spiritual visits for anyone who needs that support, and for folks who can't get around too well, there's help with bathing, dressing, toileting, washing, hygiene, and medication management.

Meals come home-prepared in the kitchen, with special menus for people who have high blood pressure, diabetes, or food allergies, and there's a visiting stylist or beauty shop for haircuts as well, since small comforts matter just as much as big ones; laundry, housekeeping, and family support services are included, so those everyday chores don't fall on residents or their loved ones. Memory care residents have their own specialized programs and events to keep them feeling engaged and safe, along with wandering prevention measures and extra attention if someone's struggling, and activities for all seniors range from light exercise to music and art, depending on what folks enjoy most each day. Everything is on one large campus that's secure and protected, so even the most vulnerable residents can feel calm and settled.

Rockwood Manor accepts Medicare and Medicaid, which helps make care possible for a wide range of families, and the place is part of a well-established health system known for high-quality care and attention to details, so you might notice staff are often described as kind, helpful, and cheerful, which can make it easier for new residents to feel at home. The community gets good marks from care assessors and has built a reputation for strong memory care, personalized programs, and attentive nursing, and there's always a focus on comfort, safety, and a bit of joy in daily living, whether someone's here for a short stay or calls it home for the long run.
