    Pleasant apartment living with concerns

I placed my mom in this small-town, apartment-style community and overall we're pleased - clean rooms and hallways, apartment living, good, well-balanced meals (dining room or delivered), regular activities, bus trips/appointments and helpful home-health visits. The staff are warm, caring and often go above and beyond, which gave our family real peace of mind and made long-term residency comfortable. Concerns: nursing can be understaffed, some housekeeping lapses (dirty floors/restrooms, occasional supply shortages), and we experienced a $1,700 theft that was investigated, a culprit identified and restitution paid; I've also heard a few complaints about rights violations and past police involvement. All told I would recommend the facility but advise staying involved and watching staffing and cleanliness.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is mixed but leans strongly positive with several notable and recurring negative issues. A substantial number of reviewers emphasize compassionate, attentive caregivers and an atmosphere that feels like home: many call the staff loving, kind, and accommodating, and families repeatedly say they have peace of mind with their loved ones there. Multiple reviewers single out individual staff members (notably Jaye and Katie) for advocacy and above‑and‑beyond care. Several families report smooth transitions from rehab, ongoing long‑term residency, and that the community is welcoming and supportive.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme is praise for the frontline caregiving staff. Reviewers frequently describe staff as caring, engaged, and helpful — staff who pamper residents and provide a sense of wellness and safety. There is also repeated appreciation for involvement with residents and flexibility from staff members. However, this positive picture is tempered by recurring comments about understaffing and variability in nursing quality; a number of reviewers note that nursing could be improved and that staffing levels sometimes feel insufficient. Housekeeping consistency is another personnel issue: while some housekeeping staff are praised, other comments allege staff 'ride the clock' and do not always clean thoroughly.

Facilities and cleanliness: Many reviews describe the buildings, rooms and common areas as clean, neat and apartment‑like, contributing to the small‑town, home feeling. Conversely, a subset of reviews raises strong cleanliness concerns — filthy floors, dirty dining areas and restrooms, and even missing basic supplies such as toilet paper and hand soap. These negative cleanliness reports stand in contrast to the majority of positive cleanliness observations and suggest inconsistency between cottages/units or changes over time (reviewers also mention an ownership change, which can affect operations).

Dining and activities: Dining is a frequently praised feature: several reviewers call the food 'great' or 'the best in town,' noting well‑balanced meals, attractive dining areas, and the convenience of food delivery to rooms. Community dining options and the freedom from cooking/housework are appreciated. Activities are also a positive highlight — singing, worship, bus trips (Wal‑Mart and other outings), social events and community dinners are repeatedly mentioned. At least one reviewer felt the apartment style was 'not as appealing' and noted fewer activities, indicating some variability in resident engagement depending on building or personal preference.

Management, safety and serious concerns: While multiple reviewers compliment administration and describe administrators as committed and outstanding, there are serious negative reports that should not be overlooked. A number of reviews allege residents' rights violations, eviction or removal of residents, police involvement, and attempts to prohibit residents' connections with the community. One review explicitly names a staff member (Donya Barker) in the context of accusations; another describes a theft of $1,700 where the culprit was identified and restitution was reportedly paid and the person involved is no longer at the facility. Several reviews say the administrator was absent or staff were unresponsive during incidents. Reviewers cite a timeframe for some complaints as 'Oct 2020 to Jul 3, 2020' (the dates appear in the source material as reported), and these serious allegations stand in contrast to the many positive personal accounts. These incidents appear less frequent than the positive comments but are significant given their nature.

Patterns and recommended takeaways: The bulk of reviewers are satisfied and frequently enthusiastic — praising staff, food, safety, and the social environment — so for many families this community provides high levels of comfort and care. At the same time, there are consistent, specific concerns that prospective families should investigate: ask about staffing levels and nurse coverage, housekeeping protocols, how management handles grievances and allegations (including any past incidents and resolutions), security and financial safeguards (in light of the reported theft), and whether there have been recent changes in ownership or administration that could affect continuity of care. Also inquire about how the community supports residents’ rights and outside connections, and request references from current families who have residents with similar needs (including Alzheimer’s/dementia care if relevant).

In summary, Mt Pleasant Assisted Living receives many strong endorsements for its caring staff, food, engaging activities and homelike atmosphere, but there are isolated yet serious reports of rights violations, staff misconduct, theft, cleanliness lapses, and inconsistent staffing. Those positives and negatives coexist in the review set; a personal visit, direct conversations with management about the specific incidents raised in reviews, and checks of recent inspection or licensure records will provide the best context for deciding if this community is the right fit for a particular resident.
