    Compassionate staff, clean safe community

I'm grateful for the compassionate, knowledgeable staff who kept my husband clean, comfortable and well-monitored with daily reports, baths and timely hospice care when needed. The community is spotless, homey and safe (rails, easy layout, lovely gardens) with a large, bright room and good value. Meals were healthy and delicious, and there are exercise classes, billiards and other activities - though the activities program could be stronger. Clear communication eased our transition and I felt relieved knowing he was truly cared for.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Avalon Memory Care is strongly positive, with the most consistent praise directed at the staff and the quality of direct care. Multiple reviewers describe the staff as kind, compassionate, attentive, and wonderful; they note that caregivers know residents’ needs, form bonds with them, and provide relief and reassurance for family members. Practical care practices are frequently highlighted: daily bathing and pajama changes, daily sanitation of the home, regular condition reports to families, and the absence of bed sores were all mentioned as indicators of good clinical and personal care standards. Several reviewers explicitly said the residents were well cared for and that the facility provided high-quality care even during difficult circumstances (one reviewer expressed gratitude after a COVID-period loss while praising the team and hospice support provided).

The physical environment and amenities receive repeated positive mentions. Reviewers describe a home-style atmosphere with pleasant grounds and gardens, an easy-to-navigate layout appropriate for memory-care residents, and safe bathrooms equipped with grab rails. Bedrooms are noted as large and bright (three windows called out by one reviewer) with walk-in closets and sizable bathrooms. The community is described as very clean and well-maintained, with daily sanitation routines reinforcing that impression. Location and value are also strengths in reviewers’ minds — several people cited the excellent location and felt the community represented good value for the services provided.

Dining and food quality are another clear area of strength. Multiple summaries mention healthy, delicious, and well-prepared meals with good variety. Reviewers used words like appealing and delicious, and several highlighted that mealtime offerings met resident preferences. There are also structured wellness options: daily exercise classes and a range of activities (including a billiard room) are available, supporting resident engagement and socialization.

Activities and programming are the most notable mixed area in these reviews. While many comments indicate that activities are offered and that there is a variety of options, a number of reviewers — and specifically at least one who otherwise rated the community highly — said the activities program was insufficient or less robust than expected. This suggests that activity quality or frequency may be inconsistent across shifts or that programming doesn’t meet all residents’ needs or expectations. If programming is a priority, prospective families should probe schedules, staffing for activities, and recent offerings to ensure a good fit.

Communication and family involvement are emphasized positively: reviewers reported clear communication from staff, that families visited regularly and felt included, and that transitions into Avalon were eased by the team’s kindness and clarity. One reviewer specifically mentioned daily condition reports, which contributed to family confidence. The presence of hospice care and examples of compassionate end-of-life support were noted, reinforcing the community’s capacity to manage complex needs.

Areas for prospective residents and families to consider: activity programming variability and the fact that some reviewers felt the facility’s appearance or amenity level was not as upscale as other options. A few reviewers said the community wasn’t the best fit for every resident, underscoring that fit and personal preferences matter. Overall, however, the dominant themes are strong staff performance, dependable personal care, cleanliness, appealing dining, and a warm, home-like environment. For families prioritizing compassionate day-to-day care, clear communication, and value, Avalon Memory Care appears to be a well-regarded choice; for those who prioritize a highly active program or more upscale facilities, a detailed tour and conversation about activities and amenities are recommended.

    About Avalon Memory Care

Avalon Memory Care offers specialized memory care for seniors with Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia, and they do this in small, single-story houses with a cozy, home-like feel, including things like rock-lined fireplaces and secure patios, and they keep things comfortable by offering both private and semi-private rooms that often feel more like a family home than a large facility. There's a focus on high-quality, compassionate care from well-trained staff who know how to support physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual needs, with each resident getting their own care plan and plenty of individual attention for whatever makes them unique, rather than treating everyone with dementia the same way. The homes have magnetic door locks, secure memory care sections, and staff use things like bracelet alarms to prevent residents from wandering or leaving by mistake, which means they can safely take residents who might be a fall risk or have exit-seeking or aggression issues, and there's staff available 24 hours a day, including nurses on staff and a doctor on call, along with Certified Nurse Assistants who handle everything from behavioral support to medication. They can help with things like bathing, grooming, transferring, using the restroom, and caring for residents who need lifts or even two-person assistance, and they're set up to care for folks with diabetes or incontinence or who need insulin. There are well-rated amenities like outdoor gardens, backyard spaces, indoor common rooms with cable TV, housekeeping, laundry, linen, and maintenance all taken care of, and residents have meal options that fit a range of diets like kosher, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or low sodium, plus guest meals and meal service in rooms. Avalon offers activities like horticulture, arts and crafts, music, games, and fitness programs and even has onsite beauty and barber services, transportation for errands or doctor visits for an extra fee, guest parking, and religious or devotional services, with lots of opportunities for socializing in both outdoor and indoor common spaces. Residents can bring pets, enjoy home-cooked meals, and participate in activity programs meant to keep memory skills sharp, all in a setting that aims to make people feel less lonely and more together, with small, boutique-sized buildings that encourage friendships and provide steady, attentive care. Avalon also offers hospice and respite care, so people can stay as their needs change, and they focus on supporting each resident's independence and self-esteem as much as possible, always aiming to create a warm, secure, and truly supportive environment for every resident. Review scores for Avalon Memory Care are high, sometimes reaching 9.8 out of 10. Avalon accepts both men and women, with policies respecting gender-specific residency, and has a long-standing focus on safety, comfort, and the personal dignity of everyone in their care.
