    Cozy, life-changing yet inconsistent care

I moved my father here from a large memory-care facility and, overall, we're grateful - it feels like a cozy, home-like neighborhood on a golf course, the owner/manager welcomed us, staff are warm and family-style meals, porch walks and daily engagement helped his appetite, mobility and mood improve. Pricing was reasonable compared with local nursing homes and the team often went above and beyond. It's not perfect: I observed short staffing and inconsistent care and heard reports of missed meds, room/payment disputes and management excuses, so visit unannounced, check licensing and ask questions. For us it was life-changing, but go in informed.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews paint a mixed but detailed picture of Fairway Assisted Living, LLC. A substantial portion of summaries describe highly positive experiences: attentive, compassionate staff; personalized dementia support; notable improvements in residents’ health, hygiene, appetite, mobility, and social engagement; and a comfortable, home-like setting on a golf course with pleasant porch and outdoor sitting areas. Several families emphasize that their loved ones settled quickly, experienced life-changing improvements, and enjoy daily activities, family-style meals, and visits from volunteers who provide music and games. For those reviewers, the environment feels like home, staff go above and beyond, and the facility’s coordination with outside healthcare providers (PT/OT/home health and nurses) is valued.

Care quality and staff: Many reviews highlight staff as a core strength — described as kind, patient, tender, and genuinely caring. Specific positives include regular medication administration, consistent hygiene care, weight gain and improved eating habits attributed to well-liked meals, and individualized attention that treats residents like family. Families note staff reach out proactively to them, the director is accommodating in several cases, and caregivers often provide small comforts (plant shopping, walks, porch time) that enhance quality of life. Dementia support is singled out positively by numerous reviewers: staff show patience, engagement, and create routines that help with memory and mood.

Facilities, dining, and activities: The physical setting is consistently described as clean, cozy, and home-like rather than institutional. The location on or near a golf course, the back porch/fairway vista, and frequent outdoor time are repeatedly praised. Dining is frequently mentioned as a positive — family-style meals in a large dining room, a caregiver who cooks well, and residents eating better and gaining weight. Activities are present and meaningful: daily social engagement, music and games by volunteers, walks, porch time, and small-group or individualized activities that contribute to improved mood and mobility.

Management, business practices, and serious concerns: Alongside many positive reports, there are several strong negative allegations that must be taken seriously. Multiple reviews claim neglect, untrained staff, short staffing, and caregivers being too busy to meet residents’ needs. More severe accusations include missing narcotics, staff arriving hung over, evidence of owner drinking, and beer found in trash—claims that raise safety and regulatory concerns. There are also multiple administrative and financial complaints: refund denials, double payments, a room reportedly rented to another resident, unresponsiveness from management, license/BBB complaints, and at least one reviewer pursuing legal action. These reports suggest inconsistent management practices and potential lapses in oversight; they stand in stark contrast to the many reviews praising proactive managers and accommodating directors.

Patterns and nuance: The reviews show a clear pattern of polarized experiences. Many families convey deep gratitude and describe significant positive change in their loved ones after moving in. At the same time, a minority of reviewers report alarming issues that imply risk to resident safety and financial fairness. Some reviewers recommend regular unannounced visits or installing cameras based on their concerns. Several accounts also note that dementia-related behaviors make perfection impossible; even where care is loving, staff may not always be able to prevent all episodes related to disease progression. Finally, resident satisfaction appears mixed—while many residents are described as happy and engaged, a few are reported as unhappy to be there, which is not uncommon in assisted living settings but is worth noting.

Conclusion and considerations for families: If you are evaluating Fairway Assisted Living, LLC, weigh the strong evidence of compassionate, personalized care, good meals, active engagement, and a pleasant home-like environment against the troubling allegations of neglect, substance use, missing medications, and administrative/financial disputes found in some reviews. Visit multiple times, meet direct care staff and management, ask about staffing ratios and medication/security controls, verify licensing/complaints history, and consider an unannounced visit if possible. Also ask for references from current families and confirm protocols for handling medications, staff training, and incident reporting. The facility appears capable of providing excellent, family-style care for many residents, but the outsized negative reports warrant careful due diligence before committing.

    About Fairway Assisted Living, LLC

Fairway Assisted Living, LLC, known as Fairway Vista Assisted Living, sits in a quiet spot on 1017 Hidden View Place in Round Rock, Texas, right behind the golf course's 4th fairway, and has operated for 20 years, run by Kerri Dehn, an LVN with over 30 years of experience. The community looks after as many as 9 seniors in one home and up to 8 in the other, offering both assisted living and memory care services in a calm, residential setting, away from the big institutional feel. The homes, licensed and surveyed by Texas Health and Human Services, have staff on duty 24 hours a day, always awake, which means there's always someone nearby to help with things like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, or just making sure the day-to-day runs smoothly. Residents share meals, enjoy garden views, take part in planned activities, exercise programs, creative projects, and music, and can request help with doctor's appointments, transportation for shopping, and even spiritual services if that's needed, plus they bring in a mobile hairdresser and offer both a book room and recreation rooms.

Both homes are kept small, which lets the staff, many of whom have worked here for years, really get to know each resident and their routines so companionship is a big part of the daily life here, and the resident-to-staff ratio stays low-around 5 to 1. Meals get cooked homemade for everyone, and special diets for conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure are handled with care, plus they plan activities like movie nights, board games, outdoor trips, pet therapy, and music therapy to help fill the days with comfort and meaning. The houses feature private rooms, with extra bedrooms and baths for visiting family members, and there's a commercial sprinkler system for safety and equipment to help with evacuations if needed, so residents don't have to move even if they need hospice or end-of-life care. Staff speak both English and Spanish, aiming to create a home-like environment where seniors can stay as independent as possible while getting help as their needs change, so families can have some peace of mind knowing there's supervision all hours and a nurse running things. The homes both have long records of good care and high standards, including an A+ rating by the Better Business Bureau, with services licensed and surveyed and no long-term contracts required-just a month-to-month arrangement. Fairway Assisted Living works alongside other local homes like Bader House, Sedro Trails, The Blake at Waco, The Rose at Round Rock, Stoney Brook of Copperas Cove, and Platinum Resort, all helping serve Georgetown, Round Rock, and Waco, Texas, by focusing on daily living support, safety, friendship, and reliable routines for seniors who still want some independence.
