    Warm caring staff comfortable recommended

I live here and I'm very happy - the staff are warm, caring, and know residents by name, the place is clean, bright and well maintained, and the activities keep me social and busy. Meals offer good variety and are usually tasty, though some days they're inconsistent and a bit institutional. Maintenance and management are generally responsive, transportation and location are convenient, but it can be pricey and some areas are older/under renovation. Overall I feel safe, at home, and well cared for - I would recommend it.

About The Waterford at Thousand Oaks

The Waterford at Thousand Oaks sits in Uptown San Antonio with a single-story layout, wide entryways, and charming exteriors that feel welcoming right from the start, and what strikes folks about the place is how they focus on both the comfort and well-being of senior adults, offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, home care services, and even companion care if someone needs a bit more support. You'll find studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments ranging from 343 to 844 square feet, with small fridges, microwaves, emergency call systems, and access to cable and internet options that work for seniors, plus a steady 24-hour staffing presence for peace of mind. Folks living there can have pets and use the dog park or walk the stable outdoor walking paths, and there's a big focus on community through spaces like the library, a grand dining room with chandeliers and a fireplace, open-concept common areas, and a game room with a billiards table.

There's a lot to do, like scheduled arts and craft classes every Tuesday, fitness and yoga classes, Dakim brain fitness, or joining in on community-sponsored and daily activities, and residents often gather in the cozy lobby, enjoy shared dining and restaurant-style meals, and chat in the activity areas. Housekeeping, linen, and laundry services are all looked after so people can spend more time enjoying themselves or joining social, educational, and recreational programs. Transportation's available for appointments and errands and the grounds and buildings are always kept tidy thanks to regular maintenance.

Carewise, staff help with daily activities like dressing, bathing, medication reminders, and meal support, and the personalized care plans let residents get exactly the help they need, whether that's daily, short-term respite stays, Alzheimer's or dementia care, or even hospice waiver support. The third-party on-site home health agency does wellness checks when needed, and there's access to a 24-hour help line for families. Amenities aim to keep folks engaged and happy, including communal dining, a fitness center, outdoor gathering areas, scheduled activities, and a pet-friendly policy that keeps things lively.

The Waterford also recognizes and celebrates residents with things like the community's Tree of Dreams and Wall of Honor. For those recovering from illness or injury or visiting short-term, temporary stay services are available, and the place caters to independent folks as well as those needing more assistance, supporting a mix of lifestyles and levels of care so people can age in place.

Safety stays front and center, from secure, monitored entrances to emergency call systems in every unit, while the well-appointed apartments and services like scheduled housekeeping and dining take worry out of daily living. The atmosphere tends to be relaxed and everyone's encouraged to take part in events, walk the grounds, read in the library, or just enjoy quiet time with friends or their pets, and there's a family-like feel that many find both comforting and reassuring as they enjoy their retirement years.
