    Caring community but oversight needed

I toured and moved my loved one here and overall I'm impressed - the building is clean, homey and single-story, staff are kind and personable, activities are engaging, and the leadership and sales team were helpful, which gave me real peace of mind. Dining and amenities are generally good, though some families mentioned bland or inconsistent meals. My biggest concerns are recent staff turnover, uneven nursing/management presence, medication and billing mistakes, and mixed results with memory-care. I would recommend this community for its caring atmosphere and attentive staff, but urge close oversight on meds, billing and level-of-care details.

    About Brookdale Watauga

Brookdale Watauga sits in a quiet area of Watauga, Texas, and offers a small, comfortable community with 35 apartments, including four one-bedroom units and 31 studios, some of which have private courtyard entrances, and you'll find all the usual safety features you'd expect for senior living, like an emergency response system monitored by the staff day and night and a 24-hour security system in place for peace of mind, while the building itself has wheelchair-accessible spaces so getting around is a little easier for folks who use walkers or wheelchairs, and each apartment comes with private baths, kitchenettes, basic cable, Wi-Fi, and all the basic kitchen appliances, so residents can feel more at home. The team at Brookdale Watauga focuses on personalized care plans that match each resident's needs, and they help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and medication management, encouraging independence where possible, but stepping in when more help is needed. Memory care is also available for individuals with memory loss or cognitive challenges, with staff trained for these needs and a secure, enclosed courtyard with raised garden beds for folks who enjoy spending time outdoors. Meals are served three times a day in the main dining room, and there's a private dining space for special visits with family and friends, plus a comfy family room for casual socializing.

Residents can join in all sorts of activities, including games, arts and crafts, music, exercise programs, educational events, and group outings to spots around town, with a library stocked with books in regular print, large print, and audio, and a computer room if anyone needs to stay connected. Housekeeping, laundry, and linen services keep apartments clean, and there's complimentary transportation for appointments and errands, so residents don't have to worry about driving. Outside, people enjoy the sunny courtyard, gazebo, and the garden, with flower beds raised to make it easier to work with the plants, and visitors-including pets-are welcome, although some pet restrictions do apply.

Brookdale Watauga supports several levels of care, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Home Care (Non-Medical), Adult Day Services, Long-Term Care/Skilled Nursing, Medicare-certified Home Health, and Hospice Care. The staff, including a part-time nurse and specialized team members, are on hand 24/7 for emergencies or help, but the community also lets people stay as independent as they wish, and most residents find it cozy and cottage-like, rather than big and impersonal, and friends and relatives can join for meals in the dining area or at activities. The facility stays non-smoking indoors, mixing a safe environment with opportunities to connect through fitness and wellness programs, salon services, religious or devotional services, and Veterans Affairs Aid Assistance. Nearby, you'll find hospitals, rehab centers, parks, and local restaurants, so access to healthcare and local attractions is straightforward, and there's plenty of parking for residents and guests. Brookdale Watauga is recognized for kind, helpful staff and a lively social atmosphere, providing a safe setting where dignity and comfort are priorities, all under a Texas Assisted Living Type B license, Facility ID 030018.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Watauga is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
