Valley Grande Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation offers long-term and short-term care for seniors and people with disabilities at their location in Weslaco, Texas, and you'll find they operate as a nursing home with skilled nursing services around the clock, so residents get help from nurses day and night, and there are assistive devices, emergency support, and both Medicaid and Medicare are accepted, which helps make care more affordable for many, and you'll notice the place provides other types of residential care too, like assisted living, independent living, memory care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's, and respite care for families who may just need some extra help for a bit, plus they've set up a Continuing Care Retirement Community model, so folks can have different housing and support options all in one place, and they've made sure all rooms have private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, telephones, air conditioning, and there's Wi-Fi, with housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance available to keep up with daily needs, which is helpful because some residents may have trouble with tasks like bathing or dressing and need a hand from the staff, and those caregivers are bilingual and trained to help with personal care, walking, medicines, and transfers, so daily life carries on with as much ease as possible, and when it comes to staying social and active, there's always something going on, with community activities, movie nights, music, arts and crafts, games, resident-run programs, and trips out for errands or field trips, and the dining services let folks eat in a restaurant-style room, and there's a professional chef to handle special diets and all-day dining, which means meals can fit many needs, and outside there's a beautiful yard, a garden, and walking paths so residents and their families can enjoy the outdoors, with benches and places to rest or talk, plus you'll see features like a fitness center, a library, business and game rooms, an on-site salon and barbershop, and spaces for both big and small gatherings, and they've made the place easier to get around for people who use wheelchairs or walkers, with safety measures like sprinkler systems and emergency alerts, so families know their loved ones are safe, and for health care, there's skilled nursing, IV and respiratory therapy, wound and pain care, therapy for speech, occupational and physical needs, plus full support for medication and nutrition, and they set up care plans for each individual, so what's needed gets done, and families and residents can bring up their concerns through a council if something needs improvement, and you'll find both state and federal health programs available, a health library, interactive tools for checking symptoms, and learning centers for behavioral health, which makes it easier to find answers to health questions, and the facility connects to a larger network for personal and family caregiving resources, so support doesn't stop at the front door, and you get community resources when challenges come up, so while the place looks neat and updated with recent renovations, the biggest thing is the focus on giving seniors and people with special health needs a comfortable and steady place to live, recover, or rest, surrounded by a staff that knows how to handle the ups and downs of daily care.

Beautiful facility but unsafe management
I have mixed feelings after having family here for years. The facility is beautiful and many caregivers and nurses have been loving, professional, and attentive - excellent rehab, therapy, activities, live music, and generous meals kept my dad comfortable for a long time. But I've also seen alarming problems: high staff turnover, poor management that dismisses concerns, delayed notification after an altercation (police involved), reports of staff mistreatment/assault, theft of a phone, COVID-positive staff working, and poor communication from doctors and the dietician leading to nutrition/safety worries. I'm grateful for moments of good care, but overall I cannot confidently recommend this place.
