    Caring staff but inconsistent facility

I feel this small, home-like facility offers exceptional, professional and caring staff, great food, effective rehab, and a clean, family atmosphere - they often go above and beyond. That said, the building is dated and staffing/communication can be inconsistent (long buzzer waits, occasional missed meds, rude or unresponsive customer service and billing headaches), so expect compassion but be prepared for service and facility limitations.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment is mixed but focused around a clear and recurring theme: the people who work at Willis Nursing & Rehabilitation are frequently praised as the facility's strongest asset, while staffing levels, communication, safety consistency, and the physical plant draw the most criticism.

Care quality and staff: Many reviews strongly commend the nursing and therapy teams. Phrases such as "professional and caring," "world-class staff," "went above and beyond," and "stupendous care" recur. Multiple reviewers credit therapy with significant functional gains (for example, getting a resident walking again within weeks) and describe hospice and end-of-life care as compassionate and family-centered. Long-tenured staff and caregivers who form trusting relationships with residents and families are also highlighted. At the same time, there are persistent reports of unresponsiveness — slow service, ignored call lights, long buzzer delays, and even allegations of skipped medications — which are serious safety concerns. Several reviewers explicitly noted falls, bedsores, and welfare checks being triggered. These safety-related complaints contrast sharply with the many accounts of high-quality, detail-oriented caregiving and suggest variability in staffing or supervision across shifts or units.

Facilities and environment: The facility is described repeatedly as small, home-like, and having a country atmosphere — attributes that many families and residents appreciate. Reviewers often note cleanliness and an orderly environment with easy access to restrooms and the cafeteria. Food receives generally positive comments ("excellent food" and "good food"), although a few reviews mentioned cold food. The building itself is frequently described as older or dated and in need of renovation. That physical aging likely contributes to mixed impressions: some find the facility charming and homelike, while others see it as overdue for upgrades.

Operations, communication, and management: Several reviewers report excellent administrative support — management helping with paperwork and staff assisting with benefits and care setup. One reviewer referenced an "excellent survey result, no deficiencies," indicating compliance and strengths in some oversight areas. Conversely, there are notable and repeated complaints concerning customer service and billing: unhelpful or rude front-desk staff (specific names were cited by reviewers), billing and reimbursement disputes, and poor follow-through on family communications. These operational shortcomings compound the safety and staffing issues and contribute to the highly polarized feedback.

Staffing patterns and variability: A dominant pattern is inconsistency. Many reviews describe caring, devoted staff and excellent experiences (even "hidden gem" and "second home" descriptors), while others are sharply critical, calling the place an "absolute joke" or reporting a very negative short stay (even 14 hours). Several specific problems are tied to staffing shortages — particularly on weekends or nights — and to particular employees or shifts. This suggests that quality at Willis may depend heavily on which caregivers are on duty and whether adequate staff are available at all times.

Who the facility may suit and cautions to consider: Based on the reviews, Willis appears to be a strong option for short-term rehabilitation, hospice care, and families who prioritize compassionate, relationship-based staff in a small, home-like setting. It seems especially well regarded when long-tenured and attentive teams are in place. However, prospective residents and families should exercise caution if continuous, highly reliable 24/7 staffing and tightly controlled medication management are priorities. Before placement, ask targeted questions about call bell response times, weekend/night staffing ratios, medication administration protocols, incident history (falls/pressure injuries), billing practices, and recent survey findings. During visits, observe call-bell responsiveness, speak directly with nurses and therapy staff, and request examples of how the facility handles staffing shortages and complaints.

Bottom line: Willis Nursing & Rehabilitation receives substantial praise for the compassion and skill of many staff members, strong rehabilitation outcomes, good food, and a home-like atmosphere. However, repeated reports of unresponsiveness, safety lapses (missed meds, falls, bedsores), billing/customer-service problems, and an aging building produce a split picture. The facility can offer excellent, person-centered care under the right circumstances and staff coverage, but families should verify current staffing reliability and communication practices to reduce the risk of experiencing the negative issues described in several reviews.

    About Willis Nursing & Rehabilitation

Willis Nursing and Rehabilitation is a medium-sized, for-profit skilled nursing facility that serves a diverse community of residents seeking both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. With 114 beds available, the facility operates under an LLC ownership structure and participates in both Medicare and Medicaid programs, making it accessible to individuals with a range of financial resources and care needs. Unlike some facilities, Willis Nursing and Rehabilitation is not part of a continuing care retirement community, focusing instead on providing nursing and rehabilitation services for those recovering from hospitalization, illness, or injury, as well as ongoing support for those who require assistance with daily living.

The care provided at Willis Nursing and Rehabilitation is delivered by a team of nurses and support staff, offering an average of three hours and thirteen minutes of nurse staffing per resident each day. The staff assists residents with a range of medical and non-medical needs, such as medication administration, assistance with mobility, personal hygiene, and other activities of daily living. A notable aspect of the facility is its commitment to preventive care, with 100% of residents receiving the annual influenza vaccination to help protect some of the population’s most vulnerable members from seasonal illness.

Quality of care at the facility is measured through a variety of metrics. In the area of short-term rehabilitation, the facility has achieved an average rating, reflecting a balanced performance in post-acute care for those recovering after a major event like a stroke, heart attack, or injury. For long-term care residents, also rated as average, a significant percentage—88.4%—maintain the ability to complete daily tasks independently, promoting a sense of autonomy and dignity among those who live there. The facility’s safety and health protocols undergo regular inspections, with recent assessments noting both the strengths and areas targeted for improvement in infection control, medication management, and the honoring of residents’ rights and preferences.

Willis Nursing and Rehabilitation’s environment is governed by oversight that includes state health inspections and ongoing quality measures. Attention to resident safety, management of accident hazards, respect for personal dignity and possessions, and involvement in the creation of person-centered care plans are all areas emphasized within the facility. The approach to care includes ensuring that specialized needs, such as feeding tube management, align with best practices and resident agreement. Additionally, the facility has been proactive in responding to infection control, medication labeling and storage, and consistent protocol improvements following inspection findings.

The overall atmosphere at Willis Nursing and Rehabilitation is characterized by a focus on the emotional and physical well-being of residents. Emergency room visits and the rate of infections requiring hospitalization have been monitored and are a part of regular quality reviews. Nursing and support staff work closely with individuals to preserve their independence when possible, address their health concerns, and create a supportive community that fosters respect and dignity. As a trusted provider of both short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing care, Willis Nursing and Rehabilitation remains a resource for families seeking quality support and specialized care for their loved ones.
