    Caring, professional staff and administration

I'm very pleased with the caring, professional staff and supportive administration - admissions (Kelly Hall), Nurse Andrea Roberts and Assistant DON Bee Roberts all went above and beyond. Therapy services were excellent, rooms are clean and spacious, and The Nest felt secure. Communication was clear, the team was compassionate and attentive, and my mom seems truly well cared for; I would recommend this welcoming, well-managed facility.

    Summary of reviews

Free State Crestwood elicits a strongly mixed picture. Many families and visitors describe attentive, compassionate direct-care staff and an exceptional therapy department, praising physical-, occupational- and speech-therapy services, rehabilitation support, and the facility’s secure memory-care unit (The Nest). Several accounts highlight warm meals, active social programming, helpful admissions/front-desk personnel, and a generally welcoming atmosphere. Parts of the building have been remodeled and are described as clean and well-managed.

Care quality and staffing present the clearest divergence in experience. Positive reports emphasize diligent, warm nursing and caregiving, clear family communication, and administrators or clinicians who went beyond expectations. Conversely, multiple accounts express operational concerns: inconsistent staffing levels, use of agency personnel, extended nurse-call response times, and occasional delays or gaps in medication administration and clinical responsiveness. Families also describe variability in staff conduct and communication tone; while some staff are characterized as respectful and supportive, others are described as brusque or unhelpful. These patterns suggest unevenness in day-to-day caregiving rather than a uniform standard across the facility.

Dining and activities are generally cited as strengths. Reviewers note home-style meals, active programming, and engaged residents. The memory-care unit is repeatedly described as secure and nurturing. At the same time, activity offerings may not suit every resident’s preferences; some individuals sought simpler or different routines than those offered.

The facility’s physical condition is described inconsistently. Several reviewers praise clean, remodeled sections and ongoing repairs, but others report aging furnishings, dim or depressing areas, and localized odor or sanitation concerns that, in some cases, were addressed after cleaning. Some rooms are noted as spacious with en-suite bathrooms, while others involve shared-bath arrangements that raise privacy concerns.

Management and oversight show both positive and negative signals. Multiple families commend helpful admissions staff, engaged administrators, and nursing leaders who provided clear updates. At the same time, other reviewers raise concerns about leadership turnover, inconsistent responsiveness from management, intermittent physician coverage, and isolated incidents that prompted questions about safety-event handling and escalation. Those divergent impressions point to variability in leadership performance over time or across teams.

Practical guidance for prospective residents and families: tour the specific neighborhood or unit you are considering (including the memory-care unit), ask for current staffing ratios and the facility’s use of agency staff, review medication-administration protocols and recent quality or inspection reports, confirm physician coverage and emergency escalation procedures, observe meal service and an activity period, and inquire about recent or planned renovations. Such targeted questions will help determine whether the positive elements described (therapy strength, caring staff, secure memory care) are present in the areas most relevant to your loved one and whether operational concerns have been addressed.

    About Free State Crestwood

Free State Crestwood is a senior living community in Wills Point, Texas, that serves people aged 55 and older who need various levels of care, including long-term nursing home care, short-term skilled nursing stays, assisted living, memory care, independent living, respite care, and home care options, and the place is licensed by the state of Texas, License #307683, to care for up to 72 residents with specialized services. Residents can get help with daily activities like dressing, transfers, bathing, medication, and meals, with licensed nurses, therapists, and professional caregivers always available, and round-the-clock nursing care and a 24-hour call system give extra peace of mind for those who need it or for families who worry. There are also special services for people who need diabetic care, incontinence care, non-ambulatory care, or more advanced help for disabilities and diseases, so families know loved ones are cared for with the right attention.

The environment feels homey but has hospital-like resources for those who need short-term skilled nursing, and rooms are furnished with private bathrooms, cable TV, phone connection, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and kitchenettes, so people have what they need to feel comfortable, and each person gets an individualized care plan tailored to their needs. Community areas give people places to relax or socialize indoors and out, with walking paths, a courtyard, gardens, and outdoor sitting spots that let folks enjoy the fresh air. Residents can spend time in fitness rooms, a spa or wellness area, an activity room, an arts room, a music room, a business center, a game room, a library, or try out special hobbies in community-sponsored activities, and the staff offers a full calendar set up for exercise, arts and crafts, movie nights, music, social gatherings, church services of various denominations, and outings like shopping trips and offsite community events.

Meals get a great deal of attention, with chef-created, nutritious options served in a restaurant-style dining room, along with flexible meal plans, special diet help, all-day dining, and set menus, and laundry, housekeeping, most utilities, and concierge help are all included. Transportation and parking are available for residents who need rides to appointments or want to get out in the town, and regular programs run to help people stay active, social, and involved, with some activities led by residents themselves. Memory care serves people with mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's, dementia, and behavioral health challenges, and respite and hospice care options mean temporary and end-of-life care get provided with dignity. Staff offer confidential help from an ombudsman for complaints or guidance in solving long-term care problems, so families have support and another place to turn if needed. All these features, along with move-in coordination and family support, help Free State Crestwood offer many different ways to meet senior living needs, and prices for extra levels of care start at $500 per month, which lets people adjust their plan as care needs change.
