    Caring rehab but check staffing

I stayed here for short-term rehab and was mostly very pleased - the staff are genuinely caring, family-like, and go the extra mile; therapy (especially under Brody LeRoy) was structured and excellent, activities were engaging, and the building and private suites felt clean and comfortable. I felt listened to and supported by administration and nursing, though I did notice reports and occasional instances of understaffing, medication lapses, and safety/attention gaps that are worth asking about. Overall I'd recommend this facility for recovery and compassionate, personalized care, but check current staffing and med practices before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The review set for Parkdale Health & Rehab is strongly mixed but leans positive in volume: many reviewers praise the facility as one of the best in the area for skilled nursing and rehabilitation, while a minority report serious care gaps. Positive reviews frequently highlight exceptional therapy services, compassionate and dedicated staff, cleanliness, an engaging activities program, and responsive administration. Negative reviews focus on understaffing, medication errors, instances of neglect, and inconsistent clinical oversight. This creates a polarized portrait in which individual experiences appear to vary significantly depending on staff on duty, physician responsiveness, and specific incidents.

Care quality and clinical services: A major recurring strength is the facility's physical therapy and rehabilitation program. Reviews call it 'structured,' 'among the best in the area,' and explicitly praise therapy staff competence and results. Short-term rehabilitation and professional recovery are repeatedly commended. However, several reviews raise serious clinical concerns: medication management failures (including late meds and allegedly missed anti-nausea medication), uncontrolled pain, and examples of neglect such as residents left unattended for long stretches. Physician responsiveness is also inconsistent in the reviews—some cite a responsive Dr. Ethen while others report neglected needs under Dr. Jeff. These contradictions point to variable clinical oversight and suggest that while therapy and rehab can be excellent, medication administration and some nursing tasks may be uneven.

Staff and culture: Staff behavior and culture generate the strongest positive themes. Numerous reviewers describe staff as caring, empathetic, family-like, and willing to go the extra mile. Named employees (Riley Anderson, Liz, Natasha, Sandy, Chelsiy, Shirley, Claudia) are singled out for outstanding service. Multiple departments are called out for teamwork—including administration, nursing, dietary, maintenance, transportation, laundry, and housekeeping—supporting a picture of cohesive, engaged staff who create a welcoming atmosphere. Conversely, a subset of reviews reports understaffing, poor treatment of employees, low morale tied to pay, and specific staff members described as rude or unreliable (mentions of Rigo and Adrian in negative contexts). These conflicting reports imply that staff experience and behaviors may vary by shift and that staffing levels are an important driver of both resident experience and staff satisfaction.

Facilities, dining, and activities: The physical environment receives strong praise—clean, well-maintained, airy spaces with plenty of natural light, pleasant smells, and high maintenance standards. Private suites and bathrooms are noted as valuable features. Dining and kitchen staff earn positive mention, with at least one cook (Shirley) specifically praised and multiple reviewers stating residents loved the food. The activities program stands out as another significant strength: reviewers cite a proactive activities director, meaningful and varied programming (arts festivals, international days, animal shelter outings, community events), and frequent community outings that engage residents. This programming contributes to resident satisfaction and community integration.

Management and improvements: Several reviewers praise new management and report noticeable improvements—better responsiveness, stronger oversight, and an improved facility culture. Administration is also tipped as a positive factor in many reviews, with Brody LeRoy mentioned in leadership roles. At the same time, other reviewers perceive the facility as money-focused or inadequately managed in clinical areas. This duality suggests that Parkdale may be in a transitional phase where management changes are improving some aspects while other systemic issues (e.g., staffing levels, med administration protocols) remain.

Patterns, risks, and recommendations for readers: The dominant pattern is variability: many people experience high-quality, compassionate, and professional care, while a meaningful minority encounter serious problems (medication issues, neglect, rude staff). The most frequently praised elements are therapy/rehab, activities, cleanliness, and individual staff members' compassion. The most frequently reported risks are staffing shortages and medication/clinical management lapses. Prospective residents and families should weigh the generally high praise for rehabilitation and programming against the noted inconsistencies. When considering Parkdale, it would be prudent to ask about current staffing ratios, medication administration protocols, physician coverage, and recent changes under new management. Also ask for references or recent family testimonials and inquire about how specific complaints are handled and resolved.

Bottom line: Parkdale Health & Rehab shows many hallmarks of a strong skilled nursing and rehab provider—excellent therapy, engaged activities, clean facilities, and numerous staff praised for compassion and competence. However, reported instances of understaffing, medication mismanagement, and episodic neglect create a mixed reliability profile. Experiences appear staff- and shift-dependent; many reviewers strongly recommend Parkdale, while others strongly advise against it. The facility may offer excellent outcomes for many residents, particularly in rehab, but families should confirm current operational safeguards and oversight before committing.

    About Parkdale Health & Rehab

Parkdale Health & Rehab sits in a quiet rural area and has landscaped outdoor spaces where seniors and visitors can relax or meet up with others, and although the facility belongs to Beaver Valley Hospital, with Cascades At Parkdale Rehab LLC managing the place since September 2018, it's actually a for-profit spot, which means the facility works to earn income while still focusing on care. The facility has 58 certified beds, and people can find both short-term rehab and longer-term nursing care with physicians, therapists, nurses, social services, and dietary staff who team up to design individualized care plans, and these plans cover everything from pain management, medication monitoring, and wound care, to cardiac care, diabetes care, and even more specialized services like IV therapy, tracheostomy care, and tube feeding, along with support after orthopedic surgeries. Although residents in the past have faced some documented deficiencies, including those tied to infection control, staff carry out required quality improvement training and work to improve those issues, which shows their focus on making care better over time. Folks who need help with daily activities, like bathing or walking, can get assistance any time they need it, and all medication gets handed out round-the-clock by trained staff, while residents with dementia receive memory care support with a lower resident-to-caregiver ratio, so there's more personalized attention for everyone. Residents can use therapy rooms for physical, occupational, or speech therapy, and for those recovering from surgery, they'll find both private and semi-private rooms, plenty of recovery support, and help with discharge planning, including getting ready to return home safely. The place runs all sorts of activities to help people keep busy, with gardens, dining rooms where families can eat as guests, cable or satellite available in the rooms, parking out front, and even a beauty salon and barbershop for keeping up with haircuts. Parkdale Health & Rehab gently encourages everyone here to keep their independence and stay active in social or spiritual ways, and since it's a certified nursing home with a good community reputation and is part of bigger groups like Cascades Healthcare and Horizon West HealthCare, families tend to trust the care provided. The staff offer financial help, laundry service, help with transportation, and 24-hour emergency coverage, so most needs get met right at the facility. While nobody claims perfection, the focus stays on giving folks a caring place to heal, get stronger, and feel at home.
