    Caring staff, staffing cuts harm

I found the staff loving, compassionate and hardworking; the facility is clean, home-like with delicious, nutritious meals my mom enjoyed, personalized care, nice gardens and even a hospice NP referral when needed. However, after staffing cuts the level of care dropped - staff failed to alert our family and delayed calling paramedics in an emergency, which led to an adverse outcome and a weak apology that felt negligent. It's a small, welcoming community with apartment-style rooms and long-tenured caregivers, but it is locked down, has limited memory-care activities and very simple rooms. Overall I appreciate the caring team and would recommend with caution - verify staffing levels and emergency protocols before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive regarding day-to-day care, staff compassion, cleanliness, and the facility environment. Many reviewers praise the staff as kind, caring, hardworking, and experienced, with several mentioning long-tenured caregivers and a sense of trust during an Alzheimer's care journey. The community is frequently described as clean, well-kept, and home-like, with attractive physical features such as wide, well-lit hallways, lovely gardens, and private, apartment-style rooms (often with individual bathrooms and kitchen areas). Dining is commonly noted as a strength — reviewers cite individualized meal plans, delicious and nutritious food, and residents who are happy with the meals. Multiple families report feeling peace of mind and that their loved ones were in good hands; hospice services and attentive staff during end-of-life care are also specifically mentioned positively.

Facilities and community size receive consistent praise. The environment is characterized as small and personal, which many reviewers appreciate for the individualized attention and social events. Several reviewers emphasize that the community is welcoming and social, offering activities and events that work for many residents. Pricing is noted as affordable or competitive in at least one review, and proximity to family is a benefit mentioned by people who selected the location for convenience.

However, there are notable and serious concerns that temper the overall positive tone. A subset of reviews describe operational and safety problems: reports of staffing cuts and a reduced level of care, as well as at least one account alleging a delayed emergency response where staff did not call paramedics and failed to promptly alert family. Those accounts describe an adverse patient outcome and characterize management’s response as a weak apology, creating a perception of negligence for some reviewers. These safety and communication failures are significant because they directly affect resident well-being and trust. In addition, some reviews describe the facility as 'locked down' with restricted outdoor access and limited memory-care activities — issues that matter particularly for residents with dementia who need appropriate engagement and opportunities for safe outdoor time.

Other, smaller concerns appear in multiple reviews: some rooms are described as very simple, there are reports of residents spending a lot of time watching TV (suggesting limited engagement for certain individuals), and a few reviewers felt the facility was 'not running well.' Availability is also an occasional issue: at least one review mentioned there were no openings. There are also hints of inconsistent staff performance — while many reviewers praise staff, a minority raised concerns about responsiveness and follow-through in crisis situations.

Taken together, the pattern suggests a facility with many strengths in everyday care, hospitality, and environment — clean, comfortable spaces; compassionate, long-term staff; good food; and a small-community feel that supports individualized care. At the same time, there are critical operational and safety red flags reported by some families, especially regarding staffing levels, emergency protocols, family communication, and memory-care programming. Prospective residents and their families should weigh the frequent positive reports of daily life and staff compassion against these serious safety-related concerns.

Recommendations for prospective families: during a tour, observe staff-resident interactions, mealtimes, and activities; ask directly about staffing ratios (especially at night), recent staffing changes, and training for memory-care; request specifics about emergency response protocols and examples of how the facility has handled past emergencies; inquire about policies for outdoor access and dementia-specific activities; and check current availability. Also consider asking for references from current residents’ families and for documentation of any investigations or corrective actions if you hear about incidents. These steps can help validate the many positive experiences reported while clarifying and mitigating the potential risks raised in the reviews.

About BeeHive Homes of Salt Lake and MillCreek

BeeHive Homes of Salt Lake and MillCreek is a privately owned senior living community set in a residential area with scenic mountain views and pretty landscaping, and it's been around for over three decades so there's quite a bit of experience behind how things run here, and you'll notice when you walk in it's been recently renovated for comfort and easier movement with updated safety and accessibility features like sprinkler systems and emergency call setups. The homes are small and cozy with spaces meant to feel like a real home, and folks can relax in inviting common rooms, spend time in outdoor patio areas, or join in on programs meant for socializing and staying busy, including arts, crafts, fishing, quilting, or just sitting together.

The community offers assisted living, memory care for dementia and Alzheimer's, nursing home care, independent living, short-term respite stays, and day care, so there's a good range of help available, and staff are trained for both Level I and Level II care services which is important if someone's care needs change over time, and while there's caregivers around 24/7, there isn't a nurse on staff full time but a consulting nurse is always on call, and there's routine checks so care plans get updated. Folks get personal help with basics like dressing, bathing, grooming, taking medication, walking or using a wheelchair, and medical services include podiatry, wound care, and occupational therapy, which helps cover both regular and special needs.

Rooms come in a few shapes and sizes including single suites (about 150 square feet) and shared suites (about 200 square feet), both with private baths and accessible showers, spacious closets, and TVs with cable, plus residents can bring their own furniture which makes things feel more like home, and there's studios, single rooms, and two-bedroom apartments, so couples can sometimes get a room together if available. Meals-three a day plus snacks-are prepared based on dietitian-approved plans, and there's always clean bed linens and towels, weekly laundry and housekeeping, and washers and dryers if someone wants to do it themselves. Folks have access to WiFi, game rooms, a dining area, a fitness center, a hair and nail salon, and kitchens or kitchenettes, which means daily life goes on pretty smoothly, and there's transportation for doctor visits or outings.

For those with memory loss or dementia, the memory care program is set up in a fully-secured area with trained staff who understand those unique needs, and the goal really seems to be keeping a feeling of independence and community, even as needs change. The staff spend time getting to know each resident, checking regularly to make sure care is right, and the layout is meant to make everyone feel safe and comfortable. Activities go on daily, visiting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and guests can park easily.

BeeHive Homes of Salt Lake and MillCreek accepts long-term care insurance, and usually folks can stay for as long as they want unless they need more medical care than the community can provide. The focus always stays on your comfort, privacy, and making sure help is there when you need it, whether you're living in one of the assisted living, independent living, or memory care rooms, or you're only staying for a short respite visit. The place tries to make sure everyone's treated with dignity and respect, and they try to help you feel like you belong, whether you're here for years or just a little while.
