    Charming clean home excellent care

I placed my mom here and couldn't be happier. The charming Victorian home is clean, well-kept and homey, with sizable, comfortable rooms and a large dining area. Staff treat residents like family - nurses are caring and the activity director is amazing, with lots of daily activities (bingo, cards, puzzles), safe grounds to walk, and video calls for family. Meals are fresh and very good, medication management and care are solid, and the place offers excellent value - I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive, with a clear emphasis on compassionate, family-like care and a strong activities program. Many reviewers repeatedly praise the staff as caring, accommodating, and treating residents like family; the activity director receives particular accolades for engaging programming. The facility is frequently described as having a welcoming, thriving community of friendly residents and staff. Several reviewers credit the staff and care team with measurable health improvements for their loved ones, and note strengths in medication management and nursing support.

Dining and mealtime experiences are a consistent strength in the reviews. Multiple people highlight good, well-balanced meals, often freshly prepared (including garden produce) and generous portions with seconds or thirds available. The large, pleasant dining area and home-style meal service contribute to positive impressions of daily life. Reviewers also praise amenities such as sizable, comfortable rooms with good beds, clean and well-kept common spaces, and grounds for walking—features that reinforce the overall sense of a homelike, safe environment.

Activities are varied and frequent, with bingo, cards, puzzles, and other daily options noted across reviews. The facility offers social and recreational programming that many residents enjoy, and reviewers report that it supports an active lifestyle. Additional conveniences like video teleconferencing for family contact and speech assistance when needed are mentioned positively. Several accounts emphasize quick move-in processes and responsive staff during transitions, which can be important during urgent placement situations.

Value and affordability are recurring themes: a number of reviewers describe Journeys Crossing as affordable or an exceptional value, noting discounts and lower cost compared with alternatives. At the same time, a minority of reviewers express concerns about cost or that pricing was too high for their circumstances. This suggests that perceived value may vary depending on individual budgets and expectations.

There are notable negative themes that prospective residents and families should consider. A handful of reviews report problems with administration—specifically poor communication, a rude administrator, or what one reviewer described as 'shady' behavior. Some reviewers described dingy interiors or areas that were not well maintained, creating a depressing atmosphere for a minority of visitors. One reviewer reported an unexplained refusal of admission; another recommended investigating an alternative (Willow Estates). These critical reports contrast with the majority of positive comments about cleanliness and upkeep, indicating some inconsistency in experience—possibly due to turnover, timing, or differing expectations.

Operationally, a few reviewers asked for better access to a nurse practitioner, signaling a gap in on-site clinical access that families might want to clarify during tours. There are also isolated mentions that the facility was "not quite what we were looking for," underscoring that while many residents thrive there, it may not fit every individual's preferences or needs.

In summary, the dominant picture painted by the reviews is of a caring, community-focused assisted living home with strong meal service, active programming, and staff who treat residents with warmth and respect. Cleanliness, comfortable rooms, and outdoor space further support residents' quality of life. However, there are recurring concerns about administrative communication and occasional maintenance or atmosphere issues reported by a minority of reviewers. Prospective residents and families should tour the facility, meet the administrator and nursing staff, ask about current staffing stability and admission policies, verify clinical access (including nurse practitioner availability), and inspect living areas to reconcile the largely positive reports with the smaller number of negative accounts.
