    Beautiful community, but inconsistent service

I toured and moved my loved one into this brand-new, beautiful, pet-friendly community - the modern, sunlit apartments (you can bring your own furniture), impressive amenities and dining rooms really stand out. The staff are mostly kind, compassionate and helpful, move-in was smooth, and the food and daily activities are excellent. That said, service can be inconsistent at times (staffing turnover, slow meal service, spotty communication) and the pricing is on the high side. Overall I'm pleased and would recommend a visit, but go in with eyes open about potential variability in care and costs.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive when it comes to the physical environment and many frontline staff members. Multiple reviewers consistently praise the community as a brand-new, beautifully designed facility with bright, spacious rooms, skylights, and well-maintained common areas. Amenities are a recurrent strength: reviewers mention salon and barber services, a clubhouse, theatre, private family room suitable for visiting and cooking, outdoor courtyard space, and sunlit lounges. The location is highlighted by several families for convenience (across from Augusta Hospital) and pleasing views. Many reviewers emphasize a home-like atmosphere, pet-friendly policies, and the ability to personalize apartments, which makes the community appealing for residents and families seeking a comfortable, modern living environment.

Staff and care are the most frequently discussed themes and present a split picture. A large number of reviews use words like compassionate, loving, attentive, and exceptional to describe nursing and direct care teams; reviewers report smooth move-ins, helpful concierge service, quick issue resolution, and staff who know residents well. Transition supports such as furnished short-term rooms and flexible scheduling for meetings and paperwork were appreciated. Conversely, a notable subset of reviews reports inconsistent care quality, poor responsiveness, and high staff turnover. Specific operational concerns include difficulty locating staff, delays in services (bloodwork, responses to requests), and instances where families perceived neglect or isolation of residents. Several reviewers advise comparing levels of care and asking about staff-to-resident ratios because experiences varied depending on staffing and shifts.

Dining and food emerge as another area with conflicting reports. Many residents and visitors praise the meals as nutritious, delicious, and varied, and comment positively on the dining areas. However, other reviewers describe serious problems: during COVID-related adjustments or reported kitchen staffing lapses, meals were served on Styrofoam, were slow, or were described as “unrecognizable.” A few reviewers explicitly accused the community of false advertising regarding chef-prepared meals when kitchen staffing was inadequate. These divergent reports suggest that dining quality may fluctuate over time, particularly during staffing shortages or pandemic-related changes.

Management and administrative practices are another recurring theme with mixed feedback. Several reviewers commend directors and leadership for a residents-first, staff-first approach and for creating a warm community culture. At the same time, a number of reviews express frustration with management being absent from the floor, poor communication with families, and restrictions on family access after hours in at least one reported instance. There are also serious allegations from a small number of reviewers alleging that staff were coached to post positive reviews and concerns about the accuracy of advertising — claims that should prompt families to seek direct verification during tours and reference checks.

Operationally, staffing levels and consistency are the most actionable concern. Multiple reviewers mentioned staff shortages leading to reduced activities, delayed services, and inconsistent inter-staff communication. These shortages correlate with other complaints (slow meals, delays in medical-related services, and a feeling that staff sometimes walk past without acknowledgment). Conversely, when staffing is adequate, reviewers frequently describe outstanding, attentive care and a joyful community. Pricing and perceived value show variation as well: many find the pricing reasonable or worth it for the facility quality, while others feel it is expensive relative to the services actually received.

In summary, Regency at Augusta Assisted Living & Memory Care appears to be a well-appointed, attractive, and modern community with many strong features: excellent physical plant and amenities, a number of highly praised caregivers, good move-in supports, and an engaging activity program. However, experiences are not uniform. Families should be aware of reported variability in staffing, occasional management or communication issues, and intermittent dining/service problems that appear linked to staffing levels or pandemic constraints. If you are evaluating this community, visit in person during different times of day, ask for specifics on nurse coverage and staff-to-resident ratios by shift, confirm current dining/kitchen staffing and meal service practices, inquire about policies for family access and handling of resident belongings, and request recent references from current families. Doing so will help determine whether the positive elements described in many reviews are consistent and align with your care and value expectations.

About Regency at Augusta Assisted Living & Memory Care

Regency at Augusta Assisted Living & Memory Care sits in Fishersville, Virginia, and was founded in 2020 as a privately held company with 11-50 employees. This community offers assisted living and memory care services, focusing on supporting seniors who need daily help or have Alzheimer's and dementia. The ENGAGE Memory Care Program customizes care using input from doctors, staff, residents, families, and their own ENGAGE Care Coordinator, so residents get the right kind of support for their needs, and staff receive regular training. Holly Wilson leads as the Director of Health and Wellness, Cheryl Garber works as the Cook, and Chad Edwards manages Environmental Services, and you'll find a team that provides care twenty-four hours a day, including licensed nurses, which makes a real difference when health needs change suddenly or someone needs help in a hurry.

The building has been recently renovated, so it has bright, well-laid-out spaces, with private or companion suites for memory care, all with accessible bathrooms and emergency response systems. There's a private entryway and a secure outdoor courtyard for safety and privacy, and the staff uses surveillance cameras in shared areas to keep everyone safe. Seniors can choose between their own space or a shared one, and the focus remains on everyone having both independence and support as needed.

Community life matters here, and they work at making it feel welcoming and comfortable, with a family feel that helps people feel at home. People gather in lounges, the sun lounge, or the Regency Clubhouse, and there's a self-serve coffee bar, country store, library, and even a movie theater for relaxing. The two dining rooms offer meals, and snacks are available throughout the day, which is handy for anyone wanting a bite between meals. There are recreational and fitness rooms for exercise, group activities, and plenty of chances to stay active.

Residents can get to local shops, restaurants, and medical facilities using the community's transportation service, and staff organize outings, onsite and offsite activities, games, puzzles, and get-togethers, including parties and visits to the beauty and barber shop. There's a strong sense of friendship and support, as families and staff get to know one another, and new residents and their families say it quickly feels like everyone is surrounded by family. The staff is well-trained, kind, and always on hand to help, aiming to balance care with privacy and freedom.

For those needing a temporary stay, perhaps after surgery or an injury, they offer respite care. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a full calendar of social and educational programs, plus beauty and barber services and devotional services offsite. Regency at Augusta also provides resources about long-term care, insurance, and family caregiving for those looking for advice. The facility is fully vaccinated and up to date with modern standards, based on what's been shared publicly. Reviews from residents and families give Regency at Augusta high marks for its caring team and quality of services, with a review score of 4.8 out of 43 reviews.
