    Clean, compassionate memory-care with caveat

I placed my mom in the memory-care here and am very pleased - the facility is clean, safe, beautiful and pet-friendly, with delicious on-time meals, engaging activities, an expansive, well-designed memory-care layout, and compassionate, highly engaged staff and leadership (Regina, Kristina and Dianna stood out). We did have a troubling incident around an injury that raised concerns about response and dignity, but communication and support have been strong overall; I highly recommend this community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the collected reviews for Discovery Village At The West End Assisted Living is strongly positive, with multiple families reporting noticeable improvements in residents’ quality of life and high satisfaction with daily operations. The most common themes praise the staff — described repeatedly as "rock star," highly engaged, kind, compassionate, and family-like. Reviewers mention specific staff and leadership by name (memory care director Regina, Dianna, and management Kristina), highlighting the personal attention and relationships formed between staff, residents, and families. Communication is frequently cited as a strength: families report super communicative, up-to-date updates and a sense that management is responsive to questions and concerns.

Care quality in memory care is emphasized as a major strength. Reviewers note a well-designed memory care layout with separate activity areas that make the space feel expansive and purpose-built. Many families say their loved ones are thriving, with positive stories about daily life, dignified and supportive care through progression of illness, and a home-like environment. Nurses and aides are described as caring, respectful, and attentive; staff are said to be compassionate during difficult transitions. The facility’s cleanliness and inviting common areas (including a garden and outdoor spaces) are mentioned repeatedly, reinforcing the impression of a well-maintained and comfortable setting.

Dining and activities receive consistent positive mentions. Multiple reviewers describe fine dining, delicious and on-time meals, and a pet-friendly atmosphere that contributes to residents’ comfort. Activities are characterized as fun and engaging, with separate activity spaces that support cognitive and social programming. Families consistently recommend the community to friends and other relatives, and many describe the facility as outstanding, beautiful, and customer-friendly.

Management and leadership come across as dependable and welcoming in most reviews. Several comments single out strong, communicative leadership and a "phenomenal new director," suggesting that leadership changes have been positively received. Reviewers emphasize supportive and responsive management, which bolsters families’ confidence in day-to-day care and administrative responsiveness.

However, there is a meaningful and serious contrasting thread in the feedback that should not be overlooked. At least one review reports a substantially negative experience involving resident injuries (scratches/bruises), finding a resident on the floor, and allegations of staff neglect and lack of dignity at end of life. This account stands in stark contrast to the majority of positive reports and raises concerns about consistency of care, incident response, and end-of-life protocols. While most reviews describe dignified and compassionate care, the presence of this serious allegation suggests variability in individual experiences and highlights the importance of follow-up on safety and incident handling.

In sum, the dominant picture is of a well-regarded assisted living and memory care community with strong staff engagement, effective leadership, good communication, pleasant facilities, strong dining, and active programming. Most families report dramatic, positive effects on residents’ quality of life and would highly recommend the community. Nonetheless, prospective families should be mindful of the isolated but serious negative report concerning injuries and alleged neglect; asking specific questions about fall prevention, staffing levels, training, incident reporting, and end-of-life care policies when touring or considering the community would be prudent to ensure consistency and safety.
