The Village at Orchard Ridge sits on 132 acres in a rural spot, with cottages, duplexes, and apartments in different sizes and styles, and the campus includes six separate buildings with 362 living units altogether-a good number being independent living, plus 18 memory care and 20 skilled nursing units for those who need more help. The place opened in 2013, run by National Lutheran Communities & Services, and has a minimum age policy of 60 and up. There's assisted living, memory care, long-term and short-term rehab, skilled nursing, and in-home services all on campus. Residents find a sense of community, with a chapel for all faiths, garden areas, dog park, memorial garden, woodworking and art studios, billiards, sewing, several game rooms, and a business center to keep active and engaged. The state-of-the-art fitness center, therapy studio, massage room, and indoor saltwater aquatic center with lap lanes, heated pool, hot tub, and water aerobics classes help folks stay healthy, and outside there are walking and biking trails, paved paths, and places to garden. The Engage Center acts as the hub for wellness, offering classes, guest lectures, and programs centered on body, mind, and spirit-including art, music, fitness training for a 5K, and social groups, all shaped by the ConnectedLiving philosophy.
The Village serves as a Life Plan Community, meaning care needs can be met as they change, from independent living to more support if needed, with skilled nursing, memory care, and even outpatient rehab, plus home health help when folks don't want to move. A resident-driven calendar and volunteer opportunities keep everyone involved. For veterans and those living with a disability, there's access to resources through websites like VirginiaNavigator, SeniorNavigator, disAbilityNavigator, VeteransNavigator, and the Lindsay Institute, covering legal help, housing, finance, and quality of life. There's a library with educational articles, local events, books, videos, and guides, and the community works with groups like Benefits and Community, Aging Well, and Caregiving for extra resources. Meals happen in a shared dining room, and the place takes pride in the little things-like letting folks have their own pets, planting in the garden, or taking a walk on one of the long trails. The "small house" approach in supportive health care gives a homelike feel for those needing extra care. With wellness and enrichment programs, tech tools, art and music classes, memory support, a personal alert system, and in-home support through myPotential at Home, The Village at Orchard Ridge sets out to give seniors many choices for living, learning, and staying connected, right there on campus or through links with community partners.
