    Family-run home with excellent care

I chose this small, family-run home (the Kutsar family, Yelena, Michael) and I'm so grateful - the staff are tender, attentive and treated us like family; the house is spotless, residents are well cared for, and daily laundry keeps everything orderly. Meals are homemade from scratch with fresh garden vegetables and a varied menu I enjoyed, and the inviting yard, covered patio and gazebo make it feel like home - activities are available though I wasn't very active. The owner is kind and communicates well; some staff accents are hard to understand (we used a translation app), but overall the care is excellent and I highly recommend this lovely, professional community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on a warm, family-like atmosphere and consistently high-quality personal care. Multiple reviewers describe the caregivers as tender, attentive, and professional, and several specifically name Yelena, Michael and the Kutsar family as caring providers. The home is frequently described as spotless, clean, and well-ordered; reviewers note daily laundry services and that residents are kept clean and well cared for. Many families express gratitude, some even stating that their loved ones' lives were extended or significantly improved while in the home.

Dining receives notable praise: reviewers repeatedly mention homemade meals prepared from scratch and the inclusion of home-grown, healthy foods such as fresh garden vegetables. Meals are described as delicious and enjoyed by residents, and multiple reviewers highlight an appealing menu and good food as a strong point. The physical environment is also mentioned positively—an inviting yard, flowers, a covered patio and a gazebo contribute to a homelike, pleasant outdoor space that families appreciate.

Staff and management themes are largely favorable. Reviewers characterize staff as caring and professional, and the owner is specifically described as kind, considerate, and communicative. Several comments indicate strong recommendations to other families and a sense that the smaller, residential setting is a good fit for seniors who benefit from closer, family-style care.

There are some recurring concerns to note. A number of reviewers mention a language barrier with staff: accents made some caregivers hard to understand, and at least one family used a translation app to bridge communication gaps. This suggests that while care quality is high, verbal communication with staff can be a challenge for some families and residents. Another operational concern raised is that pricing was presented without a clear discussion tied to individual needs in at least one review; this points to an opportunity for clearer, more personalized financial conversations during admissions or tours. Additionally, while activities are available and noted as varied, a few reviewers observed that some residents were not very active or engaged in those activities, indicating that activity participation may vary by resident and could be an area to monitor or improve.

In summary, Pleasant Comfort AFH is portrayed as a clean, small, family-run adult family home with high-quality, compassionate caregiving, excellent home-cooked meals (including garden produce), and an attractive outdoor environment. The owner and named caregivers receive positive mention and the overall recommendation level is high. Families considering this facility should be aware of potential communication barriers due to staff accents and may want to ask about how the home handles individualized activity engagement and how pricing will be tailored to specific care needs during the admission process.

    About Pleasant Comfort AFH

Pleasant Comfort AFH sits on North Dorset Road in Spokane, Washington, at the base of the foothills near the Spokane River, and it's a licensed Adult Family Home with the Washington state license number 753066. This home's got 8 licensed beds, so it's pretty small and that's good for folks who like a close-knit, home-like space, and they offer private and semi-private rooms, including studios and 1-bedroom units with lots of closet space, and some rooms even have balconies or views of water and mountains. The building always stays clean with daily laundry and a no-smoking policy indoors. They've got everything from walking trails and a greenhouse to a snack shop, Wi-Fi, and a beauty shop, so people have chances to stay busy or just sit and listen to bird songs out in the yard. People living here get home-cooked meals with a focus on nutritious foods, and staff will accommodate special diets if needed.

They've got care for seniors dealing with low mobility, dementia, mental health, developmental disabilities, vision or hearing problems, and they're set up for active fall prevention and wheelchair accessible showers, and you can see the staff use translation apps to help with communication if language is a barrier. Someone's always around, with doctors and nurses on call, a dentist available, and 24-hour caregivers who give help where it's needed most-like bathing, showers, going to the bathroom, medication management, managing feeding tubes or oxygen, and support after a stroke or brain injury. There are programs designed for residents with Alzheimer's and other memory issues, and they'll work with residents on things like walking, range of motion, and even speech if that's needed. The staff keep electronic medical records, so things stay organized, and family DPOAs can access these records if they need to.

Activities happen indoors and out-from arts and crafts to gardening, bingo, painting, or just enjoying movies in the theatre room, and people can take part in devotional services if they want. There's a wellness program, health monitoring, blood glucose checks, blood thinner checks, manicures, and haircuts, and if someone needs help eating or with continence management, that's provided too. Respite and hospice care is available, and they've got therapy services in-house or arranged through home health, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and podiatrist visits also happen onsite. Residents can bring pets if they'd like, and their visitors have parking spots, with visiting hours from 9 in the morning until 8 at night. There's an emergency system in every room, a full fire sprinkler set-up across the home, and complimentary transportation for doctor visits or group outings. A concierge service helps residents and their families with any unique needs.

You can take a tour of Pleasant Comfort AFH on weekdays or weekends during the day, and surveyors from the state and agencies like the Department of Aging check on the facility regularly to make sure rules get followed. Pleasant Comfort AFH doesn't accept Medicare unless certified, and most costs cover all utilities, meals, and senior care services. Community management and skilled helpers watch over residents with attention, and the published customer rating is 4.5 stars, so most families who've chosen this place say it's excellent for peace of mind. This senior care home keeps things steady, honest, and focused on the safety and comfort of older adults in Spokane County who want dignity and some independence, but know they need daily support.
