    Compassionate care in homelike setting

I couldn't be happier with this facility. The staff are friendly, attentive and treat residents like family - the care is excellent and compassionate, with beautiful, homey grounds and large, comfortable rooms. It's close to the hospital, couples aren't separated, there are resident cats, and I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment The reviews for Fitzwater's Assisted Living are uniformly positive. Multiple reviewers emphasize a combination of high-quality, compassionate care and a warm, home-like environment. Phrases that recur across summaries are "exceptional care," "love and compassion," "friendly and attentive staff," and "highly recommended," indicating a strong overall endorsement from those who wrote about the community.

Care quality Care is a dominant positive theme. Reviewers specifically call out the quality of care as exceptional and describe the caregivers as providing love and compassion. Terms such as "excellent care" and "exceptional care" appear repeatedly, implying consistent satisfaction with residents' day-to-day support and clinical attention. Because reviews emphasize compassion as well as quality, respondents are reporting not only competent service but also emotionally supportive interactions between staff and residents.

Staff and relationships Staffing and interpersonal dynamics are another consistent strength. Reviews describe staff as friendly, helpful, and attentive, and several reviewers explicitly say residents are "treated like family." "High staff quality" and "pleasant atmosphere" were also noted. These comments suggest strong caregiver–resident relationships, good front-line responsiveness, and a culture that prioritizes dignity and personal attention.

Facilities and living environment Physical facilities and the living environment are highlighted positively: reviewers note "beautiful facilities," "large rooms," and a "comfortable, home-like" or "homey" feeling. The presence of resident cats and an environment that keeps couples together are specifically mentioned as important quality-of-life features. Together these points portray a community that is both physically attractive and deliberately designed to feel familiar and domestic rather than institutional.

Location and practical considerations Proximity to a hospital is cited as a favorable practical attribute by at least one reviewer, which can be important for families concerned about access to emergency or specialized medical services. Several reviewers end with explicit recommendations, indicating a high level of trust and satisfaction among those who left comments.

Notable patterns, gaps, and potential concerns The reviews are consistently positive and do not list explicit negatives. That uniform positivity is a strong endorsement but also highlights informational gaps that prospective residents or families may want to investigate further. Review summaries do not provide details about dining quality, activity programming and social calendars, medication management protocols, staff turnover or continuity, wait times for care, formal clinical outcomes, pricing and contract terms, or regulatory/inspection history. Cleanliness is implied by "beautiful" facilities but not described in detail. Because these areas are not addressed in the summaries, they represent reasonable follow-up topics for anyone considering Fitzwater's: ask about meal menus and special-diet accommodations, sample daily/weekly activity schedules, review staffing ratios and turnover, tour several room types, request recent inspection reports, and discuss costs and contract specifics.

Bottom line The collective message of the reviews is a strong recommendation: Fitzwater's Assisted Living appears to offer compassionate, high-quality care in attractive, home-like surroundings with staff who form family-like relationships with residents. The community is noted for keeping couples together and offering a pet-friendly atmosphere. However, because the available summaries focus on culture, staff, and environment, prospective residents or families should seek additional specifics about dining, programming, clinical procedures, staffing levels, cleanliness standards, and contract terms to form a complete picture before deciding.

    About Fitzwater's Assisted Living

Fitzwater's Assisted Living, also known as Fitzwater's Chandler House II, sits at 219 Locust Ave in Fairmont, WV, where it's been set up with both comfort and care in mind, and you'll find that it's a family-owned place, so there's a homey feeling with an attentive staff who help with daily living tasks like bathing, dressing, medication, and coordination with healthcare folks. The care is personal, changing with each person's needs, and the facility is licensed, which means there are regular safety checks and always enough caregivers around, and you'll spot English-speaking caregivers taking care of both ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents, including folks with dementia or memory care needs, and those needing diabetic or incontinence care. There's always someone around for 24-hour supervision, and the building itself has safety in mind with things like a fire alarm, sprinkler system, security system, fire escape, and ADA-compliant entrances and bathrooms, plus a designated handicapped parking area.

The setting feels much like a big old house, you know, with a covered front veranda where you can sit, and a private back patio with a little retaining wall, and inside, there's a sunroom, a formal living room, and a dining room with built-ins where everybody can gather for meals, which are prepared by chefs and meal planners who make sure there are options for people with allergies or diabetes, and folks can either have their meals at set times or pick from all-day dining-all this takes place in furnished rooms that can be turned into bedrooms, an office, or even a parlor, and there's a built-in office and ample storage inside too, with a kitchen that comes with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. There's a full unfinished basement for laundry and more storage, and the house keeps comfortable thanks to radiator heat, central air on the first level, and some split units.

Residents can join in community-sponsored activities, go on outdoor walks along paths and gardens, watch movies during movie nights, head off-site for devotional activities, or take part in group events that help folks stay social and well, and if you want to go somewhere, transportation is available, and parking comes with it. The staff coordinates with healthcare providers as needed, taking care of medication and helping with whatever might come up, while housekeeping, laundry, and move-in help are also part of daily life, and so people can just focus on being part of the community. While Fitzwater's Assisted Living is well set up and offers a lot for daily life and care, online reviews are mixed, showing a 2.0-star rating from just a handful of people, so experiences do seem to differ from person to person, but the focus here remains on steady support in a home-like place for seniors who want help with daily tasks or a secure environment for long-term care.
