    About Beechwood Continuing Care

Beechwood Continuing Care has served Western New York for nearly 60 years as a not-for-profit senior care provider, and you'll find it in Getzville, close to Amherst, with locations in Williamsville, Kenmore, and all around the Buffalo region, and it offers a whole continuum of care, offering everything from independent living and assisted living to skilled nursing, memory care, rehabilitation, hospice care, and respite care, and you'll notice they've got different facilities like Beechwood Homes on Millersport Highway, the Wesley Rehabilitation Center for therapy and short-term stays, Asbury Pointe for independent living, the Horizons specialty care program for those who need extra support, and even other affiliated residences like Presbyterian Village at North Church and Ken-Ton Presbyterian Village, so there's a lot of options whether someone needs help just with daily tasks or with more advanced medical needs. The staff does provide care around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and they've got nurses, therapists, aides, and advanced practice clinicians who handle everything from skilled nursing to physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and they even help with stroke rehabilitation and subacute recovery, plus there's a special memory care unit that takes care of people with Alzheimer's or dementia, although some folks have mentioned that in the rehab wing at Wesley, dementia patients can get upset at night and make a lot of noise which can be hard for others to sleep.

Assisted living is offered at Horizons and also in facilities like Asbury Pointe, and it looks and feels like what you'd expect from a residential setting, with room for residents to bring in their own furniture and personal things to get comfortable, and there are meals, housekeeping, laundry, medication help-really, a range of daily supports-along with planned activities, religious services, podiatry, pharmacy, hospice, social programs, and an effort to build community, and while there's plenty of social activities and a lot to do, there have been complaints about the quality of the food which some say isn't good. Intake for new residents can happen by phone, written application, or you can just walk in, and they follow the state rules for who can qualify for nursing home care, and the place is handicap accessible throughout, so getting around isn't too difficult. Beechwood tries to keep a home-like setting, but you might hear stories about the staff sometimes encouraging residents to stay as long as their insurance allows, which some family members don't appreciate much.

You've got short-term rehab options when recovering from surgery or illness, both inpatient and outpatient, and respite care lets family caregivers take breaks when needed. The staff focuses on person-centered care, tailoring help to each person, and making sure there's prompt medical attention to avoid unnecessary hospital trips, though no place is without issues, as can be seen from some patient and family reviews. Beechwood Continuing Care has a strong track record in the area and a good rating from inspection reports, with an overall CMS rating of five stars and strong marks for health and quality measures, but like many long-standing health care communities, there's always room for improvement and no facility is perfect, and Beechwood continues to support independent living and assisted living for seniors who want to maintain their independence while getting needed care in a setting that tries to feel as much like home as possible.
