    Pretty facility but terrible care

I liked the bright, beautiful facility - large, clean rooms with private baths, lots of windows, a garden, good food and activities, and some very caring, knowledgeable nursing staff in memory care. But it's huge, expensive, and feels hospital-like; staffing is hit-or-miss, aides are often unresponsive or undertrained, and I experienced serious sanitation and care lapses (bedbugs reported, dirty trash/mop issues, residents left soiled or untreated). Management was unreceptive about concerns or discounts, privacy is limited, and dining/staffing shortages are obvious. Nice on the surface, but I'm moving out - it could be much better.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews of Weinberg Campus are strongly mixed, with several reviewers praising the physical facility, certain staff members, and the availability of services, while other reviewers report serious and potentially dangerous lapses in care, cleanliness, and management responsiveness. Positive comments emphasize spacious, well-lit rooms and public areas, private bathrooms, a pleasant garden with many windows for bird watching, and specific staff members who are caring, knowledgeable, and attentive. Conversely, multiple reviews recount incidents of neglect, hygiene problems, and inconsistent staffing that raise substantial concerns about resident safety and quality of care.

Care quality and safety: There is a notable divide in reports about care. Some reviewers describe a high level of care—particularly in the memory care unit—and attentive nursing staff who are patient with families. However, other reviews detail alarming care failures: allegations of elder abuse and neglect, untreated bed sores, urinary infections, residents being left sitting in feces, cold showers, and a report that water was not provided for over 12 hours. There are accounts of patients waking up wet and crying due to lack of basic care and at least one report of a nurse responding angrily. These latter reports suggest systemic problems in some units or shifts and indicate urgent issues with hygiene, wound care, and responsiveness.

Staffing and staff behavior: Staffing consistency is a recurring theme. Several reviewers note that staffing is "hit or miss": when well-staffed, the facility can feel secure and attentive, but when short-handed, response times slow and care quality suffers. Some staff are specifically praised as caring and knowledgeable, while other aides and nurses are criticized as undertrained, careless, or outright rude. The combination of undertraining, staffing shortages, and variable attitudes appears to drive many of the negative experiences, including inadequate bathroom assistance and delayed responses to basic needs.

Cleanliness and maintenance: Reviews conflict about cleanliness. Some residents find rooms bright and very clean, while others report serious sanitation failures: bedbugs reported on every floor, dirty garbage rooms, and concerns about cleaning practices such as mop water contamination. These reports of pests and poor cleaning are particularly concerning when juxtaposed with allegations of untreated bed sores and infections, suggesting lapses in infection control and environmental hygiene in parts of the campus.

Facilities, activities, and dining: The physical environment receives frequent praise: rooms are described as large, there are spacious walkways, multiple-stage units, and a secure front desk presence. Activities are available—music sing-alongs, bingo, and sit-down exercises are specifically mentioned—but some reviewers feel activities are limited. Dining is described as adequate by several reviewers, yet the dining room and dining staff have been reported as understaffed and in need of improvement. Trash or cleaning omissions (e.g., trash not emptied) were noted in some reports, contributing to overall concerns about operational consistency.

Management, cost, and atmosphere: Several reviewers express dissatisfaction with management and pricing. Complaints include an unreceptive director, a perception that the administration focuses on finances over care, and a "hospital-like" atmosphere that some find off-putting. Cost is a clear concern: the facility is described as expensive, with no discount offered for couples, prompting some families to consider alternative senior apartments or to say they are "moving out soon." Positive mentions of an "amazing host" and relative affordability by at least one reviewer indicate that individual experiences vary and that perceptions of value differ among families.

Patterns and recommendations based on reviews: The dominant pattern is variability—Weinberg Campus can offer excellent rooms, a pleasant physical environment, and compassionate care from certain staff, but there are repeated, serious complaints about neglect, cleanliness, and inconsistent staffing that cannot be overlooked. Prospective residents and families should weigh these mixed reports carefully: verify current staffing levels and turnover, ask for documentation about pest control and infection control actions, request references from current families (particularly in the memory care unit), and observe mealtimes and care routines during visits. Given the severity of some reported incidents (untreated bed sores, prolonged lack of water, and reports of residents left soiled), it would also be prudent to review any state inspection reports or complaint histories before making a placement decision.

Bottom line: Weinberg Campus shows strengths in physical amenities, some compassionate clinical staff, and program offerings, but recurring and serious negative reports about neglect, cleanliness, and management responsiveness create significant red flags. Individual experiences appear highly dependent on staffing at particular times and interactions with specific staff members. Thorough, up-to-date due diligence is essential for families considering this facility.

    About Weinberg Campus

Weinberg Campus sits on a 70-acre property in Getzville, NY, and folks who value a quieter, more natural setting can find themselves walking along paths that wind around both butterfly and hummingbird gardens, and the whole place feels open and sunny because of the skylights and high ceilings, with resonant views from some rooms. The campus is built to help seniors in different stages of life with care types ranging from independent apartments with full kitchens and Wi-Fi to assisted living in Dosberg Manor, memory care in Garden House, skilled nursing at Rosa Coplon Rehab, and also in-home support when needed for health or therapy. Couples with different healthcare needs can often stay close together, and everything's connected through an indoor Main Street, so people can get to the beauty salon, wellness center, gift shop, library, dining venues, and even a theater without going outdoors during bad weather, which helps when winters are tough.

Staff and associates must pass background checks and health screenings, and they're supposed to treat residents with respect, dignity, and compassion. The whole place is handicap accessible and there are wheelchair accessible showers and bathrooms, private and two-room suites, and choices of units in most buildings. Some apartments have full kitchens, and there's a restaurant-style dining setup, room service, and even kosher meal options if that's needed. The campus has a focus on keeping things homelike, with a central fireplace, TV lounge, indoor and outdoor common areas, game rooms, computer or media center, and pets like cats and dogs are allowed. There's a bank right on the property, and a full range of support services like housekeeping, laundry, personal care, medication help, and transportation-folks can get rides to stores and medical appointments and there's resident parking available, too.

Weinberg Campus has both short-term respite care and long-term options, with structured activity programs to help keep seniors active and engaged-these include social, educational, and entertaining events, plus a wellness center and a therapy pool for outpatient rehab. For people with memory loss or Alzheimer's, the Garden House offers a secure and supportive environment, with meals and social activities to support cognitive health. The nursing home portion has private beds and is set up to take care of different medical needs, including incontinence, diabetes, and non-ambulatory conditions, with both skilled nursing and ancillary staff. There's even in-home services through the Rosa Coplon Certified Home Health Agency for things like nursing, physical or speech therapy, and dietitian support. Seniors with limited income can find options here, as the facility serves people at various income levels and operates as a non-profit that welcomes all faiths.

The apartment community tries to let people keep as much independence as possible, matching personal assistance to changing needs, with no discrimination based on gender identity, orientation, source of income, or faith, following New York State rights and protections. Meals are provided, and there are regular devotional services for those interested. Weinberg Campus has even been recognized with architecture awards and "Best Dish" honors for its food, and it holds a 5-star USCC accreditation. The activity schedule is full but not overwhelming, and there are policies in place to ensure that volunteers complete onboarding and screening. Folks can come for scheduled tours during the week, or by appointment on weekends, and the hours of service run from 8:30 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. While there's no current listing for rent or sale, and some details like exterior features or specifics about utilities and fees aren't listed, people find it's a place where you can age with some dignity and comfort, not too far from shopping, parks, entertainment, and hospitals if you need them.
