    Spotless caring staff and activities

I moved my mom to Elderwood Residences at Wheatfield and couldn't be happier. The place is spotless, the staff (Tammy, Nicole and activity director Donna among them) are unbelievably caring and helpful, and there are nonstop activities - music, bingo, fitness, outings and transportation to appointments. Meals are excellent, apartments/patio homes are modern and comfortable with weekly housekeeping and salon services, it's safe and social, though it can be pricey and sometimes has a waiting list; I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews for Elderwood Residences at Wheatfield are overwhelmingly positive. Across multiple reviewers and family accounts the facility is described as very clean, well-maintained and attractively presented. Staff performance is a dominant theme — reviewers repeatedly praise caring, attentive, friendly and responsive employees and name specific administrators (Tammy, Nicole) and the Activity Director (Donna) for exemplary work. Many reviewers used family-centric language ("treated like family") and highlighted staff willingness to go above and beyond, including assistance with medical appointments and individualized support in difficult situations such as end-of-life care.

Care quality and staff: Care and day-to-day support receive consistently high marks. Families and residents report attentive staff, quick responses to requests, helpful move-in assistance and good communication about funding or transition issues. Several reviews emphasize compassionate treatment, staff that foster social connections, and personnel who actively help residents settle in and overcome initial reluctance. Management and community leadership are frequently singled out as positive contributors to resident satisfaction.

Facilities and living spaces: The physical accommodations are routinely described as beautiful, modern and well-equipped. Reviewers praise in-apartment appliances (stove, fridge, dishwasher), spacious layouts including 1- and 2-bedroom options, patio homes with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, good lighting and tasteful decoration. Housekeeping is provided weekly with explicit mention of bed making and garbage removal; the community overall is noted for excellent sanitation and appealing landscaping. On-site amenities cited by multiple reviewers include a salon, on-site laundry, exercise room/workout area, pool table and activity space — all contributing to a livable, comfortable atmosphere.

Dining: Dining is a clear strength. Many reviewers describe the food as excellent — some claim meals are "better than restaurants." Breakfast and dinner are commonly provided, with multiple dining options, room-delivery service and special events like a Friday happy hour buffet with wine. A minority of reviews note variation in meal inclusion (for example, an alternate dining room across the street for a $10 fee, and at least one independent-living arrangement where no meals were provided), so families should confirm meal plans for specific unit types.

Activities and social life: The community offers a robust activity schedule and active social life. Reviewers mention a wide range of offerings: exercise classes (including Tai Chi), music and entertainment, bingo, card games, movies, car shows, weekly hair appointments, church services, and paid outings such as casino trips and theater (Shea's). The Activity Director receives specific praise for organizing meaningful engagement. Transportation is provided for outings, shopping and medical appointments, which residents and families appreciate — though some trips are noted as paid extras.

Management, move-in, and community experience: Multiple reviews praise the management team for making move-ins straightforward and for providing ongoing support. New residents often report initial reluctance that turned into satisfaction after settling in. The community is described as friendly, social and safe, producing peace of mind for family members. Several reviewers explicitly recommend the community and describe the decision to move there as the right choice for their loved ones.

Cost, availability and caveats: The chief concerns mentioned across reviews relate to cost and availability. Several reviewers cite higher-than-expected pricing and describe the community as pricey. There is also mention of a long waiting list. A few reviewers note that certain independent-living units do not include meals and that some activities or outings carry additional fees; reviewers advise clarifying what is included in each housing option. A small number of comments indicate ambiguity about how activity participation is handled for some residents, suggesting families confirm access and expectations during tours.

Overall assessment: Elderwood Residences at Wheatfield appears to deliver a high-quality, service-oriented independent and assisted living experience, with standout strengths in staff responsiveness, cleanliness, dining quality and a lively activity program. It is well-suited for seniors seeking a social community with robust programming, reliable transportation and thorough housekeeping/maintenance. Prospective residents should plan for potentially higher costs, ask about waiting-list timelines, and verify which services (meals, paid outings, etc.) are included for the specific apartment type they are considering. Touring the property, speaking with staff and current residents, and confirming all fees and inclusions will help families determine fit given the generally strong endorsements from current residents and relatives.
