    Attentive care but heating issues

I'm very happy with the care here - attentive, professional staff, responsive caregivers and physicians who make routine rounds. The facility is lovely and fairly new with a home-like design, attractive garden, exceptional living and dining areas, villas, and amenities (barber, salon, chapel, gift shop); activities are engaging. My loved one's room is small but nice, personalized and clean, and family visits are welcomed. Biggest problems: the furnace/thermostats and heat distribution are unreliable so many rooms stay cold (potentially unsafe), staffing feels thin and shower/bath access is limited, and the dining room can be a long walk for some. Overall I'm grateful for the care but would raise concerns about heating and staffing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive with several recurring strengths and a few notable operational concerns. Reviewers consistently highlight the quality of care, the compassion and professionalism of staff, and the pleasant physical environment. Many comments emphasize that residents are well cared for, with attentive caregivers, accessible primary care physicians who make routine rounds, and a general sense of safety and nurturing. Multiple reviewers explicitly express gratitude and satisfaction with the long-term care their family members receive, describing treatment as "top notch" and the community as supportive during difficult times.

Facility and amenities receive frequent praise. The building is described as fairly new, clean, and well-maintained with a home-like design. Common areas — particularly the living rooms and dining areas — are called exceptional and attractive, and an outdoor garden offers pleasant grounds. On-site amenities such as a barber shop, salon, chapel, gift shops, and vending machines contribute to a positive living atmosphere. Reviewers note that rooms are nice and can be personalized to feel homelike; villas are appealing to some residents. The community also benefits from an engaging activities program led by an active activity director and a schedule of enriching activities that keep residents involved.

Staffing and clinical care are clear highlights. Many reviews mention friendly and professional staff, responsive caregivers, and an accessible, wonderful physician overseeing care. The clinical team is portrayed as competent and committed, contributing to a sense of safety and high-quality long-term care. Leadership and management are described as committed and supportive, which reinforces confidence among families.

However, there are consistent operational concerns that prospective residents and families should weigh. Several reviews report a shortage of staff, which manifests most noticeably in bathing frequency and scheduling: examples include residents receiving only three showers per week and bath times being difficult to arrange. Staffing constraints could affect some aspects of daily personal care even though overall care quality is praised.

A more serious and repeatedly mentioned issue is the heating system. Reviewers report that the furnace and thermostats do not work properly, heat distribution is poor across rooms, and many rooms stay cold. One review characterizes the heating setup as dangerous, indicating this is a significant comfort and potentially safety-related concern that appears to be a facility-level infrastructure problem rather than isolated incidents. Prospective residents should ask management about current status and remediation plans for heating and thermostats.

Additional, smaller concerns include the distance from villas to the dining room being too far for some residents and that the community leans toward an older clientele, which may be a pro or con depending on personal preference. In summary, Deupree House presents as a well-regarded, clean, and well-run community with strong clinical oversight, friendly staff, attractive amenities, and active programming. The primary caveats are staffing limitations affecting certain personal care services and significant heating/thermostat issues that should be clarified with management prior to move-in.

Households can access room service, furnished or semi-private apartments, housekeeping, mental health and physical therapy, and choices for short-term stays, all under the umbrella of ERS (Episcopal Retirement Services). Residents won't be asked to move for financial reasons. The facility has safety in mind with security, emergency alerts, secured grounds, and supervised care 24/7, and families appreciate that Deupree House offers a spectrum of affordable and flexible care with simple comforts and modern conveniences, always focusing on respect and individual needs as people age.
