    Compassionate staff but inconsistent safety

I have mixed feelings. Many staff were compassionate, attentive and made the place feel like home - good food, activities, hospice support and a clean, comfortable atmosphere - but I also experienced or heard frequent lapses: unresponsive or absent staff, slow caregiver searches, small shared rooms, occasional unclean conditions, and safety problems (falls, delayed buzzer response, poor family communication). Because care quality and responsiveness seemed inconsistent, I couldn't fully trust it for someone who needs reliable supervision, though it may be excellent for residents who need lighter, companion-style care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is highly mixed and polarizing: many families describe Peroni Personal Home Care as a small, home-like setting with exceptional, family-style caregiving, while others report serious lapses in responsiveness, cleanliness, safety, and professionalism. Positive reviewers consistently emphasize the intimate, personalized nature of care — staff who know residents by name, one-on-one attention, an owner-led culture that feels compassionate, and measurable comforts such as a porch with a swing, weekly live music, hospice nursing availability, and organized outings. For these families, the facility delivers good food, a cozy dining space, and a calm, comfortable environment where residents feel at home and cared for. Several accounts explicitly praise staff who go above and beyond, provide regular updates, and create genuine relationships with residents.

However, an equally strong cluster of negative reports raises significant concerns about staffing, supervision, and safety. Multiple summaries cite poor responsiveness: unanswered call buzzers, no staff visible in corridors or common areas, and families unable to reach or get updates about residents. These lapses translate into concrete safety risks in some reviews, including falls, unexplained injuries and bruises, and families not being notified. There are also reports of missing personal items and allegations concerning staff arrest records — issues that warrant immediate attention and verification. Cleanliness is another area of contradiction: some reviewers note a very clean facility with no urine odor, while others report unclean conditions including animal feces and urine smell. This suggests inconsistency in maintenance and housekeeping.

Facility features and physical environment are similarly mixed. Positive comments highlight cozy, small-scale spaces, a social small dining room, and the perceived value of an all-inclusive pricing model. Conversely, negatives point to very small rooms, shared bathrooms, an older, non-modern building, limited outdoor areas, and a confusing layout. These physical constraints could be acceptable or even preferable to families seeking an intimate setting, but they are also potential drawbacks for those expecting more modern accommodations or greater privacy.

Staffing and management impressions diverge sharply across reviews. Several families praise an owner and staff who lead with heart and act professionally and compassionately; others describe staff who are inattentive, on phones, rude, bossy, or creating a prison-like atmosphere. The duality in reports suggests either variability across different shifts or staff members, or changes over time in management/staffing. Communication practices are similarly inconsistent: some families report frequent updates and proactive coordination, while others — including out-of-state power-of-attorney relatives — report heartbreaking lack of contact and failure to respond to concerns.

Given these contrasting patterns, the reviews point to two dominant realities: when the home is staffed and managed as described by positive reviewers, it can provide highly personalized, warm, and effective care; when staffing, supervision, or housekeeping lapse, the consequences include neglect, safety incidents, and serious family distress. For prospective families, the most prudent next steps would be an in-person visit during multiple times of day (including evenings/weekends), asking for staffing ratios and on-shift personnel, reviewing incident and fall logs, verifying background checks and staff hiring practices, confirming housekeeping schedules, requesting references from current families, and clarifying what the all-inclusive price covers. If family members have concerns about responsiveness or past incidents mentioned in reviews, insist on documentation of remedial actions and escalation procedures.

In summary, Peroni Personal Home Care shows strong potential strengths typical of small residential care homes — personalized attention, close relationships, comforting activities, and a homelike feel — but also exhibits serious and repeated complaints around responsiveness, supervision, cleanliness, safety, and staff professionalism. These polarized reviews indicate inconsistent performance; careful, targeted due diligence is essential before placing a loved one, and families already with members in the home should monitor responsiveness, incident reporting, and communication closely and escalate any safety concerns immediately.
