    Mostly excellent care with caveats

I've lived at Querencia since 2018 and overall I'm very pleased - the staff, memory-support team and rehab (PT/OT/inpatient) are outstanding, activities are varied and the resident community is warm and welcoming. Management was proactive with COVID, the facility is safe and well-organized, and my move/settling in was smooth. Downsides: dining is inconsistent (some great venues but small portions/noisy rooms), parking is tight with towing risk, and there have been occasional unprofessional/racist incidents, communication lapses and at least one medication/hospice problem. Despite those issues, I have no regrets and would recommend it for excellent care and services.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with many reviewers praising the quality of care, staff attention, and the community atmosphere at Querencia at Barton Creek. Multiple summaries highlight exceptional, professional, and caring staff — including a highly regarded memory-support team — and many reviewers describe individualized and proactive service. Management is frequently described as strong and proactive, particularly around COVID-19 decisions and early vaccination efforts. Several reviewers specifically named staff who provided invaluable help during move-in and transitions, which contributed to smooth onboarding and high resident satisfaction.

Care quality and clinical services are consistently mentioned as a major strength. Reviewers report excellent rehabilitation services, including prompt and effective occupational and physical therapy, daily PT/OT during short stays, and well-equipped inpatient rehab rooms that helped residents regain mobility. Nursing staff and aides are often described as patient, helpful, and capable. Memory care receives particular praise: dementia-focused activities and a caring memory-support team are repeatedly cited as meeting specialized needs.

The community, facilities, and amenities receive strong endorsement. Reviewers commonly note that the facility is well-maintained and attractive, with amenities such as a fitness center, pool, and a variety of common spaces that support an active lifestyle. The resident population is described as friendly, bright, and welcoming, helping new residents feel at home quickly. Many long-term residents report sustained satisfaction, with some living there for years and offering 5-star-level praise. The campus layout — including a separate care building connected by an indoor corridor — is appreciated for convenience and continuity of care.

Activities and social programming are a frequently praised area: residents report a wide range of well-organized activities, exercise classes, games, educational courses, outings, and entertainment options that keep people engaged. That said, some reviews describe a decline in enthusiasm or consistency of the activities team after staffing changes, indicating variability that may affect the day-to-day experience.

Dining experiences show the most consistent divergence in opinion. Several reviewers compliment specific venues (Limestone Grill, Mesquite Dining Room), describing variety and tasty meals, while others call the food terrible, complain of small portions, limited protein, cramped/noisy dining rooms, and uneven quality. Some reviewers enjoyed seated dining and menu options; others were strongly dissatisfied. This split in dining perceptions emerges as one of the most common mixed themes across the reviews.

Management and communication are generally credited as proactive and responsive, especially concerning pandemic policies and resident safety — reviewers note early vaccinations, no reported COVID cases in independent living at certain times, and transparent decisions that respected resident concerns. However, there are recurring criticisms: some reviewers described management as defensive or blaming residents when issues arose, and others pointed to poor communication in clinical contexts (including at least one mention of wrong medications). There are also isolated but serious reports involving hospice handling during COVID, allegations of cruel treatment by a named nurse (Gema Barrento), and a remark alleging racist or unprofessional behavior. These reports are less frequent than positive comments but are significant and should be noted as potential areas of concern that warrant investigation or quality assurance follow-up.

Other logistical negatives mentioned include parking shortages and towing risk, occasional bedding or furniture discomfort in apartments, and some variability in staff performance across shifts. While most reviews emphasize excellent, kind, and capable staff, a minority note that not every employee consistently meets that standard.

In sum, Querencia at Barton Creek is portrayed largely as a high-quality senior living community with outstanding clinical and rehabilitation services, attentive staff, a welcoming resident culture, robust amenities, and a rich activities program. The most notable areas for improvement that appear repeatedly are dining consistency and portions, occasional management or communication breakdowns (including rare but serious clinical and behavioral complaints), and some operational issues like parking. The overall pattern is strong positive satisfaction with a few recurring negative themes that, if addressed, could further strengthen resident experience and reduce variability across the community.
