    Exceptional staff, excellent food, comfortable

I moved in and couldn't be happier. The staff are exceptional - friendly, caring, and always willing to help (Mark, Kim and Richard stood out). The food is excellent and dining feels first-class. The community is spotless, home-like, and full of activities, wellness/rehab options, and friendly residents. Apartments are comfortable and move-in was smooth; it's pricey, but the service and atmosphere sold me.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive, with recurrent praise focused on staff quality, wellness resources, social programming, and living accommodations. The Landon at Lake Highlands is repeatedly described as clean, well-maintained, and attractive — often ‘‘new-looking’’ — with a hotel-like, upscale feel. Reviewers consistently highlight a warm, welcoming atmosphere where staff greet residents by name, display high energy and genuine care, and go ‘‘above and beyond’’ for residents and families. Long-tenured staff, low turnover, and named individuals (for example, Sara Bartolone in Wellness and Mark Sheets) are cited as major strengths that contribute to continuity of care and an engaged community culture.

Care quality and wellness services emerge as a clear strength. Multiple reviewers mention an on-site Wellness Center, well-equipped fitness room, aquatics programs and trainers, and a specific in-house physical therapist whose guidance produced measurable improvement in mobility and outlook. The presence of an exam room, in-building home health providers, and short-term rehab/rehab-support options are noted as valuable for families seeking continuity between independent living and extra assistance. Residents and families report tangible benefits such as improved stamina, pain reduction, and successful post-surgical recovery support. Safety practices — including COVID precautions and capable security — are emphasized, giving many families peace of mind.

Dining and food service receive mostly high marks, often described as delicious with talented chefs and flexible/open dining hours (7–7/anytime dining, Sunday brunch, happy hour). Many reviewers praise the variety and quality of meals, small portions to reduce waste, and friendly wait staff. That said, a notable pattern of concern appears in some reviews: a subset reports a decline in food service quality, inconsistent meal preparation, understaffed dining rooms, absence of a weekly menu, and a perceived change after new ownership. These reports indicate that dining experience can vary over time and that management responsiveness to kitchen-related complaints is an issue for a minority of reviewers.

Amenities and apartment features are frequently lauded. Apartments are described as spacious with full kitchens, large bathrooms, balconies in some units, in-unit laundry hookups, storage, garages and carports. Community amenities mentioned include a bistro, restaurant-style dining, rooftop lounge, billiard room, movie theater (some say smaller than pictured), salon, heated outdoor pool, fitness center, landscaped grounds, and a fenced dog park. Transportation services, on- and off-site outings, and robust activity calendars (exercise classes, yoga, bridge, canasta, group games, field trips) create an active lifestyle for residents. The combination of amenities and programming contributes to improved mood, social engagement, and reports of residents ‘‘being happy’’ and ‘‘not bored.’'

Management and operations show both strengths and areas for improvement in the reviews. Many comments praise organized and engaged leadership, responsive maintenance, thoughtful move-in assistance, and staff who keep families well-informed. However, there are recurring critiques around cost (some describe the community as expensive or requiring an endowment fund), occasional lapses in housekeeping, and examples where management is perceived to be slow or unwilling to address kitchen/service problems. A few reviewers compare the property unfavorably to other communities on visual appeal or luxury finishes. Thus, while the operational culture is largely characterized as caring and resident-focused, there are isolated but repeated reports of service inconsistencies and pricing concerns that prospective residents should clarify during touring and contract discussions.

Patterns across reviews suggest the Landon excels at delivering a high-touch, wellness-oriented independent living experience supported by compassionate staff, varied social programming, and strong physical amenities. The community is frequently described as family-friendly and conducive to social connections, with many residents forming lasting friendships and celebrating long-term milestones. Prospective residents who prioritize staff continuity, rehabilitation support, abundant activities, and flexible dining are likely to find the Landon an excellent match.

At the same time, prospective residents should investigate specific areas that show mixed feedback: current dining operations (ask about menu planning, staffing, and how kitchen complaints are handled), housekeeping standards and frequency, detailed pricing structure (including any entrance/endowment fees), and the condition of particular apartment models or amenity spaces. Asking for recent resident references, touring occupied units, and meeting key staff (wellness director, head of dining, executive director) will help verify that the community’s strong points described by many reviewers are present and that any reported service declines have been addressed. Overall, the dominant themes are care, community, and wellness — balanced by a few operational and cost-related concerns that warrant direct clarification during the selection process.
