    Friendly community with great amenities

I love the people here - the office and on-site staff are friendly, patient, and very helpful, and maintenance is responsive. The community is clean, well kept, and lively with lots of activities (fitness classes, game room/table tennis, movie theater, library, special events and brunches) and many amenities (gym, barber/beauty shop, laundry room, BBQ patio, walking path, parking, security); the coffee shop is closed and there's no regular meal plan right now. My apartment is on the small side but comfortable; a monthly food box from Manna helps. Rent seemed reasonable for the location, though affordability can be an issue depending on your income.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise for staff, community life, and the range of amenities. Reviewers consistently describe staff — both office personnel and on-site caregivers/maintenance — as friendly, patient, and helpful. Cleanliness and upkeep are frequently mentioned, and residents report that the property is well kept. On-site maintenance and an attentive office team contribute to a sense of safety and reliability.

Activities and social opportunities are a standout strength. Reviewers cite a broad calendar of events including special occasions (for example, a Father's Day brunch), numerous regular activities, game-room options (table tennis), and organized entertainment. The existence of activity transportation increases accessibility for outings. On-site social and leisure amenities are extensive: a fitness room with classes, a gym, movie theater, library, cafe (noted as closed by some), game room, barber/beauty shops, and a large communal kitchen/social area. Outdoor features such as a patio, barbecue area, and walking path support active outdoor and community life. Residents repeatedly describe the community as socially engaging and enjoy the people and programming.

Food and basic needs support shows mixed signals. The community participates in a monthly food box program from Manna Food Center, which reviewers listed as a valuable resource. However, several reviewers noted the absence of a regular dining service or formal meal plan, and the on-site coffee shop/cafe was reported closed. Multiple comments indicate that some amenities remain limited or are being restored post-COVID, so dining and communal food services are areas where offerings are reduced or in transition.

Housing unit characteristics and affordability emerge as nuanced themes. Many reviewers appreciate reasonable rent and some call the place affordable, with specific praise for available spacious apartments and two-bedroom units. Conversely, other reviewers identify affordability challenges tied to income — indicating that while rent may be reasonable for some, it can still be a burden for lower-income residents. Unit size is mixed: some residents reported spacious apartments, whereas others noted that certain units and living rooms are small and that private laundry may be lacking in some units. Parking and building security were positively remarked upon, which supports resident comfort despite variability in unit layouts.

Management and operations patterns show strengths and some limitations. Management, as represented by office staff and on-site maintenance, receives consistent compliments for responsiveness and friendliness. The community’s ability to provide a wide variety of programs and upkeep common spaces is a positive sign. At the same time, several reviews point to pandemic-related reductions in service (amenities ‘‘to be available post-COVID’’) and the temporary closure of the cafe, which has impacted day-to-day convenience for some residents. These are important to note as transitionary issues rather than necessarily permanent deficits.

In summary, Hampshire Village is viewed as a friendly, active, and well-maintained senior community with a broad set of on-site amenities, strong social programming, and supportive staff. The primary advantages are community life, cleanliness, maintenance, and variety of amenities and services (fitness, recreation, salon/barber services, movie theater, library, outdoor spaces). Key concerns to weigh are smaller unit sizes for some apartments, limited or absent private laundry, the lack of a regular dining/meal plan and temporary closures (notably the cafe) related to post-COVID operations, and affordability pressures for lower-income households. Prospective residents should visit to confirm unit sizes and current status of dining/cafe amenities and other services that may still be reinstating after COVID-related restrictions.

Hampshire Village offers independent living for seniors and supports several levels of care, including assisted living, memory care, and in-home senior care services, plus home health and hospice medical services are available if someone needs them and they got trained aides who offer companionship or non-medical care, so there's a lot of support options. The place has one- and two-bedroom apartments with walk-in closets, big bathrooms, open floor plans, wall-to-wall carpet, dishwashers, energy-efficient appliances, and air conditioning you can control yourself, plus nice touches like breakfast bars, spacious kitchens, and emergency pull cords in every apartment for peace of mind. Seniors can bring a small pet under 35 pounds, and there's a smoke-free policy throughout the campus. Residents can use a fitness center, a billiards lounge, a movie theater room, meeting rooms, indoor atriums, fireplaces, and lounges, along with patios, picnic areas, and walking paths outside, and there's Wi-Fi everywhere for staying connected. There's an on-site library, hospitality suite, coffee café, business center, wellness room, beauty salon, elevator, ample parking, and even after-hours on-call maintenance and online rent payments and service requests, so things are pretty convenient and safe with features like controlled access entry, smoke detectors, grab bars, and sprinkler systems. If someone needs help, the staff offers medication management, and the community connects people with transportation, shopping, nearby senior centers, and in-home care resources. Activities include health programs, educational workshops, social events, and entertainment, with the CONNECTS Life Enrichment Program aiming at physical, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Hampshire Village keeps rents below standard area prices, focusing on affordable rental housing for people with lower incomes, and it's a LIHTC community, which means some units have fixed rents and others base rent on about 30% of adjusted income, so residents must stay within set income limits. The application process asks for a driver's license or government ID, Social Security Card, bank statements, proof of all income, three credit references, three personal references, credit check, and background check with signed releases and an application fee between $25 and $50, usually paid by money order. They've got a professional management team, regular resident events, and satisfaction surveys, and the atmosphere supports an active and independent lifestyle, with everything done simply, safely, and affordably. Several assisted living options like Bartholomew House, Byron House, Grace House, Malta House, Marian Assisted Living, and Raphael House are available for folks needing more day-to-day help. The whole place is built to balance quality with affordability, and there's always something to do or someone on hand when help is needed.
