    Nice light friendly staff problems

I live here and it's a mixed bag: my bay-view apartment has great morning light and the manager and staff are friendly, with many common areas kept clean. But there are serious problems - persistent roach infestations (I found them in the microwave), elevators often broken, security/maintenance lapses (break-ins, false alarms, flooding/parking), and inconsistent access to help. Until those issues are fixed I wouldn't recommend moving in.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Casa De Oro Apartments is sharply mixed, with a clear split between residents who praise staff friendliness, cleanliness, and views, and those who report serious building, pest, and safety problems. Many reviewers emphasize positive interpersonal experiences: multiple reviewers call out a welcoming, friendly manager, helpful cleaning staff, and hardworking maintenance personnel. Several residents explicitly report clean, pleasant-smelling common areas and units with good natural light and bay views, and some describe the complex as a good value in an otherwise expensive city. These positive comments suggest that when things are working well, staff can be responsive and the property can feel well cared for.

Conversely, there are numerous and significant complaints that point to systemic facilities and safety issues. The most common negative themes are pest problems (roaches reported frequently, including in kitchen appliances), persistent or intermittent bad odors in hallways or building areas, and aging infrastructure (frequent elevator outages, overall outdated condition). Safety and security concerns are raised emphatically: reports include break-ins with stolen items, false fire alarms, parking lot problems, and even mentions of multiple deaths on-site. Flooding and water pooling during rain also appear to block access in some areas, which compounds safety and accessibility worries. Together, these issues create a picture where certain essential building systems and pest controls may be unreliable or inconsistently managed.

Management and staff receive polarized feedback. Numerous reviews praise an outgoing, friendly manager who is welcoming and supportive, and some note that maintenance staff do good work. At the same time, other reviews describe management as a "joke," cite lack of access to the manager or maintenance, and say the property is understaffed. This split suggests inconsistent experiences—possibly variation across units, floors, times, or differing expectations among residents. It also raises the possibility of uneven responsiveness: some tenants appear to receive good service while others encounter delay or lack of follow-through, particularly for urgent issues like pests, elevators, or security incidents.

Health and safety concerns are prominent in the negative reviews and deserve special attention. Roach infestations and sightings in appliances are a direct health hazard and a common complaint. Reports of false fire alarms, unreliable elevators, flooding that restricts access, and security incidents such as break-ins indicate multiple overlapping risks to resident safety. Trash and littering by other residents were mentioned as a cleanliness concern, which can worsen pest problems and impact communal areas. For prospective renters, these issues are material and should be verified with current management practices, pest control logs, and recent incident reports.

Several practical themes also emerge. Many reviewers consider the property a good value given local housing costs, and some praise attractive unit features such as bay views and morning light. However, other reviewers explicitly say the building needs significant work and caution against moving in until problems are fixed. Notably, the reviews say little or nothing about dining, organized activities, or structured care services—if those are relevant to an individual’s needs, they should be asked about directly, because the available reviews do not provide information on them.

Recommendations for prospective residents: visit the property multiple times (including evenings and during bad weather) to check odors, elevator reliability, parking, and flood-prone areas; inspect for pest signs and request recent pest-control records; ask management for written policies and response times for maintenance, security incident histories, and staffing levels; speak with current residents on different floors about their experiences; and verify whether units have been recently renovated or have bay views if that is important. In summary, Casa De Oro Apartments appears capable of offering a pleasant, well-staffed living experience for some tenants, but the consistency of building conditions, pest control, and safety-related systems is uneven based on these reviews. Proceed with thorough in-person checks and direct questions to management to confirm current conditions before committing.
