    Spacious well-appointed apartment, welcoming community

I moved in recently and have been very pleased - the staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful and genuinely bend over backwards, maintenance responds quickly, and the community is spotless and well maintained. My apartment is spacious and nicely appointed (stainless appliances, hardwood floors, washer/dryer, large bath), there are great amenities and a shuttle service, and the smooth, welcoming transition has me excited about this next phase.

    Summary of reviews

McDermott 55 presents as an independent-living community with many physical and service strengths alongside several operational limitations to consider. Reviewers consistently describe a clean, attractive facility with well-kept common rooms, scenic views, and spacious apartment footprints. Units are often noted for generous bathrooms and kitchens, modern appliances, hardwood flooring, and accessible features such as walk-in showers and wheelchair access; many apartments include or accommodate in-unit laundry. On-site amenities include fitness facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, walking and bench areas, and a monthly activity calendar.

Staff interactions are a clear strength in many accounts: personnel are described as kind, patient, and helpful, with multiple comments about staff ‘‘bending over backwards’’ to assist residents and prompt, knowledgeable responses to questions. Maintenance is frequently praised for quick turnaround on work orders. At the same time, reviewers describe staffing instability tied to leadership changes and difficulty hiring new personnel, which has led to occasional gaps in staff availability and mixed follow-through on administrative commitments.

Dining and activities reflect the community’s independent-living model. There is no on-site meal program; prospective residents should plan for self-catering or outside dining. The community offers scheduled transportation for shopping and medical appointments, which supports independence. Activity offerings and common events exist, but several accounts note limited variety and lower resident participation than expected, which may affect social engagement depending on individual preferences.

Facility condition is generally well regarded inside, but there are indicators of aging infrastructure externally and selective maintenance needs (for example, damaged brickwork). While maintenance responsiveness is strong, some residents mentioned the need for more consistent unit-level housekeeping. Cost perceptions vary: some find the community affordable or cost-effective within their budget, while others consider it higher priced compared with nearby options. Overall, McDermott 55 appears to be a well-appointed independent-living option with a friendly staff and good amenities; prospective residents should weigh the absence of dining services, potential staffing variability during transitions, limited storage in some units, and comparative pricing when making a decision.
