    Clean affordable social senior housing

I live here and would recommend Wingler House - it's very clean, well-maintained and affordable, with sewer/water/trash/gas heat included (electric/phone/cable extra) and income limits to qualify. Staff and residents are generally friendly and helpful, there's a strong social scene (coffee klatch, weekday lunches, bingo, chair yoga, beauty shop) and excellent transportation (onsite bus/vans). Apartments are larger than typical, with in-unit kitchens, garden plots and screened porches, but the building is a bit dated, the exercise room is small, there's no on-site meal or care program, and activity levels/staff consistency can vary. Overall great value for budget-minded seniors who want a social, convenient location near doctors, shopping and banks.

    About Wingler House

Wingler House sits in Ashburn, Virginia, and has two parts named Wingler House I (East) and Wingler House II (West); the community welcomes folks aged 55 and older and provides different living options like independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing, with services handled by Quantum Real Estate Management, LLC. The complex has a quiet feel, with landscaped lawns, a peaceful gazebo, a fishpond, and simple walking paths, and people can relax in courtyards or sit on the fourth-floor terrace lounge, or use the raised garden planters if they like to grow things. There are 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments, some with balconies and accessible designs, each with all-electric kitchens, dishwashers, carpeting, grab bars, smoke detectors, cable TV access, and decorator blinds, and apartments get gas heat and support features like emergency pull cords and sprinkler systems.

The staff includes a full-time activity director who arranges things like chair yoga, wellness programs, coffee klatches, arts and crafts, and off-site trips, plus van rides to shops and restaurants, so folks are able to get out without needing to drive themselves, and pets like cats and dogs are allowed in the community, so some neighbors have animal companions. There's always someone to keep up the grounds, and 24-hour maintenance if something breaks in an apartment, and folks get use of on-site laundry rooms, fitness and wellness centers, a game room, library, business center, arts and crafts room, and a beauty salon.

Residents who are mostly independent can arrange optional support services, but there's also help for people who need more care, like assisted living, memory care, nursing home, hospice, home care (both non-medical and Medicare-certified), adult day services, rehabilitation, and wound care, and the skilled nursing settings have round-the-clock support for people with complex health issues. Special memory programs help people with Alzheimer's or dementia, with secure areas, 24-hour support, and memory-enhancing activities, and respite care is available if someone needs temporary help while a main caregiver takes a break. There's also assistance with daily activities, medication, personal care, and meals, with personalized plans based on what each person needs.

Wingler House has a friendly spirit, with active residents, a focus on socializing, and events to help folks get to know each other, but it's not perfect, since some areas could use more attention on cleaning, and renovations are planned for things like the kitchens. Controlled access entry and community security give peace of mind, and folks are able to enjoy internet, cable, telephone, and other apartment basics. Rent depends on income and apartment size, with published average prices around $950, and there's a verified review system showing a 4.0-star rating out of 24 reviews, most of which come from people who've really lived there or visited. The whole place offers a simple, no-fuss style of living meant for seniors who want support, social time, or just a safe community where they're able to live on their own or with extra help if they need it.
