    Friendly staff modern independent living

I toured and moved in - staff are wonderfully friendly, professional and very helpful (great follow-up and virtual tour). The building is modern, clean and well-maintained; my apartment is well laid out with a balcony and in-unit washer/dryer. Amenities are excellent for independent living - pool, gym, theatre, game room, bar, garden and a small dog park - though the pool is a long, uphill walk. It's independent living only (no assisted care, no lunch/dinner service; simple continental breakfast), and COVID has limited some activities lately. Overall I find it affordable, good value, and ideal for active, independent retirees (not suitable if you need regular care); note there can be a waiting list for 2-bedrooms.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise for the physical condition of Affinity at Mill Road, the competence and friendliness of staff, and the breadth of amenities. Reviewers consistently describe the property as relatively new, modern, neat, and very clean — both in private units and in common areas. Apartment layouts are frequently called well thought‑out, with balconies and garden spaces noted as pleasant features. Many reviewers emphasized that units are quiet with minimal neighbor or road noise outside of rush hours.

Staff and management receive high marks across multiple summaries. Words like professional, efficient, attentive, helpful, and friendly recur. Prospective residents reported informative tours (including effective virtual tours), good follow-up emails, and managers/staff who spent substantive time answering questions. Several summaries highlighted that staff take good care of residents and that residents themselves spoke positively about their interactions. The administrator and manager were specifically praised for being informative and responsive.

Amenities are a strong selling point. The community offers a broad range of on-site options — pool, theatre, game room, bar, well-equipped gym/exercise room, washer/dryer in-unit, a small dog park, and garden areas. Activities and events (socials, crafts, healthy event calendars) are commonly mentioned, contributing to an active retirement atmosphere. Continental breakfast is offered daily in many summaries, and residents described the community as lively and social with regular programming.

Dining and care scope are important caveats. Multiple reviews clearly state there is no full dining service (no lunch or dinner), noting only a simple continental breakfast is provided. A small number of summaries mention a dining room with a meal program, so there is some inconsistency among reviewers about the extent of dining services; this suggests meal options may be limited, optional, or vary by unit/plan. Equally important, Affinity at Mill Road is an independent living community — not an assisted living or skilled‑nursing facility. Reviewers repeatedly note the community is not suitable for residents who require significant personal care or assistance; independence is required.

Accessibility and logistics raise mixed feedback. Although the property is described as accessible overall, a few reviewers pointed out practical challenges: some walks to amenities (especially the pool) are long and include inclines, and some units are a long walk to the building entrance. Busy roads during rush hours were noted as a source of traffic noise at peak times. Unit kitchens are described as small by multiple reviewers, which may matter for residents who cook frequently.

Other practical notes and patterns: Several reviewers described the community as good value and competitively priced, with easy move‑in experiences. Demand appears strong — waiting lists (particularly for two‑bedroom units) are mentioned. COVID‑era protocols have been observed and praised for safety, though they also limited some activities at times per reviewer comments. In sum, the consensus positions Affinity at Mill Road as a clean, modern, and well‑staffed independent living community with rich amenities and good value, best suited to active, relatively independent retirees who do not require assisted‑living services and who accept limited full‑meal services and occasional access or walking constraints.

The place covers most needs, from people who want to stay active and social with fuss-free living and those who begin to need daily help, all the way up to folks living with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia who get specialized memory care from a trained staff trying their best to keep everyone safe and comfortable, with routines set up to lower confusion and prevent wandering. There's an on-site skilled nursing facility, so if higher medical care is ever necessary, there's help ready nearby instead of moving again.

Residents get access to all kinds of spaces for different interests, and there seems to be no lack of these rooms-there's an art studio and a craft studio for painting or tinkering, plus a workshop and woodshop if you want to build or fix or just busy your hands making something. People gather in places like Dilly Dally's pub for happy hour or regular activities, and there are firepits where you can sit with neighbors at night. There's a movie theater for films, an indoor saltwater pool with a hot tub that's heated year-round if someone likes swimming for exercise, a fitness center, game and card rooms, a billiards room, and even a dog park, so anyone with a pet or just wanting to watch the dogs run can do so. The community stays accessible since there are senior-friendly bathrooms along with wheelchair access, and nearly everything's on-site including a barbecue area, internet café, and plenty of open space indoors for gathering or private time, totaling over 30,000 square feet folks can use night or day. The place tries to be friendly for many lifestyles, including being pet-friendly, LGBTQ inclusive, and has rules ensuring housing and employment protections.

The environment leans toward keeping people social and active, with planned schedules for events, educational talks, and physical activities, and if someone wants, they can make or lead an activity of their own since it's set up for residents to do that. Meals are put together by staff cooks and meal planners to keep things healthy and easy, and all the prices are meant to be clear, including rent, utilities, cable, and Wi-Fi, as well as all the area's amenities in one set fee, making it simpler to keep track of costs. If people need help figuring out how to pay for care, there's guidance about insurance, veterans' benefits, or even tax breaks. Guest apartments let out-of-town family or friends come to stay. The buildings are classified as apartments, and while details like the exact type or layout of the units aren't clear, people seem to appreciate the hassle-free approach. There's security, upkeep, and all standard comforts managed by trained staff. The place is close to parks, stores, restaurants, and other things around north Spokane, and folks can choose from other rentals nearby if they want. Overall, Affinity at Mill Road tries to make it easier for older adults to stay social, live safely, and get more care only if and when they need it, able to stay put as needs change and keep a bit of routine, friendly company, and activities close at hand.
