    Great amenities, but management failing

I like the friendly, dependable staff, roomy clean one-bed apartments, and excellent amenities/activities (pool, theater, workshop, classes) that make it easy to feel at home - but recent management problems, canceled services, ignored complaints/harassment and poor emergency response have me seriously considering moving.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed, with a clear split between residents who praise the community atmosphere, staff, and amenities, and others who report management problems, maintenance lapses, and serious safety or service breakdowns. Many reviewers emphasize positive aspects such as clean, modern rooms, plentiful amenities (theater, library, pool, jacuzzi, workshop), and an active social calendar. Recurring positives include friendly and professional staff, a sense of safety, regular community events (potlucks, barbecues, pancake breakfasts), and on-site activities like arts and crafts, woodworking, aerobics, and water exercises. Several residents highlighted that apartments have useful in-unit features (cooking facilities, washer/dryer) and that some one-bedroom units offer ample space and pleasant views. The community is described as pet-friendly and home-like by multiple reviewers, and at least one manager was singled out as very responsive.

Care quality and staff performance show a similar divide. Numerous reviews describe staff as wonderful, helpful, dependable, and professional; they facilitate events and contribute to a friendly, social environment. However, other accounts raise serious concerns about management behavior and resident safety. Specific complaints include allegations of favoritism, management ignoring requests, and harassment or tenant bullying that goes unaddressed. The most concerning single reports indicate that services were reduced or canceled after management changes, and at least one reviewer claims staff failed to call an ambulance or appropriately assist after a resident's fall. These incidents suggest inconsistent operational standards and varying experiences depending on timing, staff on duty, or recent managerial changes.

Facilities and maintenance are another area of contrast. Many reviewers praise the building as beautiful, clean, and well-cared-for, with excellent common spaces and amenities that are actively used by residents. Conversely, several reviews describe parts of the facility as run-down or dirty, and note items and amenities that are not kept stocked or maintained—examples include an internet cafe printer out of paper/low ink, missing TV remotes, and general neglect of supplies. This inconsistency points to uneven facility upkeep: some areas and services appear well-run, while others suffer from neglect or resource shortages.

Activities and social life are generally a strong point. Multiple reviews emphasize that there is "always something going on," with residents organizing cards, get-togethers, arts and crafts, and exercise classes. That said, a few reviewers noted the absence of a social director or the cancellation of community activities after management changes. For prospective residents who prioritize organized programming and social engagement, this mixed reporting suggests verifying current activity schedules and staffing before deciding.

Dining and apartment details: the community does not appear to provide meals as part of the standard offering, which some reviewers cited as a drawback depending on their needs. Apartments vary: while many are described as comfortable and modern with full kitchens and laundry, others mentioned small rooms and showers-only bathrooms. Utilities and some round-the-clock amenities are reported as included by several residents, which is a positive for budgeting and convenience.

Management patterns and notable concerns: a recurring theme is a shift in resident experience correlated with management changes. Several reviewers contrast "past wonderful care" with deteriorations following new management—specifically, shutdowns of services, canceled activities, neglectful care, and a perceived lack of response to complaints. There are also reports of content moderation of negative feedback (e.g., a review removed on Facebook), which further feeds distrust among some residents. These management-related issues are the most consistent negative thread and the primary driver of resident dissatisfaction and mentions of planning to move out.

Bottom line: Affinity at South Hill offers many strengths—strong social programming (when active), a suite of attractive amenities, generally friendly staff, clean and modern apartments for many residents, and a welcoming, home-like atmosphere. However, potential residents should be cautious and do up-to-date verification: ask specifically about current management, staffing levels (including an on-site social director), emergency response protocols, recent changes to services or activities, and how maintenance supplies and common-area upkeep are handled. Also confirm apartment sizes, meal options, and accessibility from nearby roads. The mixed reviews signal that experiences can vary significantly depending on timing, unit, and which staff or management are in place, so an in-person visit and conversations with current residents are strongly recommended.
