      Outstanding day club for memory

I'm thrilled with this place - their day club for memory and physical challenges is outstanding, with holistic, innovative mind-body-spirit therapies that actually help. The staff are caring, gentle, friendly and true industry change agents; they're great with my family and keep me well informed about progress. The facility is clean, secure and pleasantly scented, with engaging activities (movies, games) and tasty meals.

About Oakwood Creative Care: Town Center Day Club

Oakwood Creative Care: Town Center Day Club sits right in the Mesa Arts District, offering older adults a safe and supportive place to spend their days and feel like they belong, and they've been doing this work in Mesa for over 50 years now, starting out back in 1975 when some women came together to provide a day place for adults who couldn't stay home alone, so what you've got is a nonprofit club where seniors join in creative programs, socializing, and activities built to fit a wide range of needs, especially for people living with dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke recovery, or other age-related difficulties. You'll notice that they keep the days pretty full there, running from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, where members can join in music, art classes, writing and literature, cooking, gardening, Tai Chi, trivia games, devotional activities, and they even have karaoke and live entertainment like dance or theater performances, which is quite something if you think about all the ways to fill your time and keep your brain going. They've got an arts and crafts center, a game room, indoor and outdoor gathering areas with a big fireplace, a lovely garden, a piano or organ, and spaces for creative workshops or social events, so people aren't boxed in, and there's plenty to stay busy with, whatever your interests or strengths.

Town Center Day Club is a place where language and background aren't barriers-staff speak English and Spanish, and everyone's greeted by name, which makes people feel welcome, and together with their other "clubs" like Red Mountain Day Club, The Perfect Place, and The Dementia Hub, they aim to spark genuine happiness and give folks a sense of purpose, so adults living with memory loss or movement problems don't have to sit at home alone. The programs fit all sorts of needs-whether someone's there for social company, physical exercise, arts, or just needing a safe space during the day while families take care of other things, with respite services giving a real break for caregivers. They look after a range of daily needs too-managing medication, diabetic or incontinence care, and keeping an eye on health and safety, all in a way that tries to let people maintain their independence and dignity.

The club creates a warm, joyful community by mixing brain-boosting classes, movement, support groups, memory cafés, and skill-building for both families and professionals through special workforce training, and they open their doors for donations and volunteers from all over town, helping keep those connections strong. Through The Dementia Hub, folks get personalized therapy, outpatient help, and guidance from COPE-trained therapists, and they run educational events for families so they can better care for their loved ones at home, all focused on helping people keep their quality of life as high as possible for as long as they can, reducing medication needs where possible, and making sure both members and caregivers feel supported. Their community approach aims to help older adults live with purpose and dignity, offering more than just typical senior day care-you really can find everything from brain health and wellness clinics to outings and barbecues, with a heavy emphasis on movement, personal growth, and meaningful friendships throughout.
