    Attentive care, clean home, recommended

I placed my mom here after rehab and overall I'm pleased - the care is attentive with daily monitoring, the staff is friendly, communicative, and the social worker follows through. The facility is immaculate, smells fresh, roomy rooms with windows, daily housekeeping, a lovely light dining room and outdoor patio, and a good therapy room - she's improved. Meals were good at first but quality has declined (sometimes too spicy); staff does offer alternatives and accommodates diabetic needs. Activities are limited by a language barrier, so our family often takes her out to play games; she has a good roommate and is doing well. Biggest concerns: night security isn't great and a door can trap you outside with no doorbell/call button; a few personal items went missing once but staff got involved and resolved it. Overall I'd recommend it for the excellent care and clean, home-like environment.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews of Ocean View Post - Acute are generally positive about cleanliness, staff attentiveness, therapy outcomes and the facility’s environment, but they also reveal several recurring operational and security concerns. Many reviewers emphasize that the building is very clean, well maintained, and has a peaceful, home-like atmosphere. At the same time, the facility shows weaknesses around food consistency, night security, personal belongings control, and accessibility of activities for non‑English speakers.

Care quality and staff: Multiple reviews highlight attentive, involved staff who follow through with care plans, perform daily monitoring, and provide attentive rehabilitation services. Commenters specifically praised effective therapy and noted family members observed real improvement after rehab. Communication with staff is described positively overall, with a particular mention of an excellent social worker who helps coordinate needs. These points indicate that clinical care and case management are strengths and that staff engagement supports resident progress and family reassurance.

Facilities, cleanliness and maintenance: The facility is repeatedly described as immaculate, fresh smelling, and well maintained. Rooms are characterized as roomy, with windows and good natural light. The dining area is described as beautiful, light and airy, and an outdoor patio is available for residents. Daily housekeeping is noted, and maintenance is reported as responsive. These consistent comments suggest Ocean View invests in physical upkeep and creates a comfortable environment for residents.

Dining and dietary accommodations: Feedback on meals is mixed. Several reviewers felt meals were good or staff accommodated dietary needs (including diabetic accommodations and meal alternatives), and some noted staff were accommodating of special requests. However, other reviews raised concerns: food quality declined over time for some residents, and there were complaints about meals being too spicy or not to the resident’s taste. This pattern suggests that while the facility can and does provide dietary accommodations, consistency and overall meal satisfaction may vary across time or between residents.

Activities and social life: The facility offers activities, but several reviewers noted limitations tied to language barriers — activities may not fully engage residents who do not speak the dominant language. Families often supplement social engagement by taking residents out to play games or participate in activities. The presence of twice-weekly Eucharist indicates attention to spiritual needs, but broader inclusivity of activities for non‑English speakers appears to be an area for improvement.

Safety, security and belongings: The reviews raise notable concerns about security. One specific, serious safety issue described is an exterior door that can trap someone outside and lacks a doorbell or call button, creating a potential hazard and accessibility problem. Nighttime security was also described as “not very good” by some reviewers. Additionally, there are reports of personal items going missing. Together, these issues point to vulnerabilities in building access controls, night monitoring, and inventory or personal-property safeguards that management should address promptly.

Patterns and recommendations: In summary, Ocean View Post - Acute is widely praised for cleanliness, a pleasant physical environment, caring and communicative staff, and effective therapy/rehab support. However, recurring negatives—food inconsistency, language barriers in activities, night security shortcomings, missing personal items, and the specific exterior door safety problem—are significant enough to merit management attention. Recommended priorities are to fix the door access issue (install a doorbell/call button or update door hardware and ensure safe egress/ingress), strengthen night security protocols, implement better tracking and safeguards for residents’ personal items, and expand or adapt activities to be more linguistically inclusive. Addressing these operational concerns while maintaining the strong clinical care and facility upkeep would make the overall resident experience more consistently positive.

About Ocean View Post - Acute

Ocean View Post - Acute sits at 1980 Felicita Rd in Escondido, California, and has 120 certified beds, offering several types of care, like skilled nursing, sub-acute care, and therapies such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy, with care provided all day and night, which means there's always a nurse around, and the reported nurse hours per resident each day stands at 4.14, although staff turnover for nurses is high at 37.2%, which sometimes happens in busy facilities like this one, and while there are dedicated teams on hand, there have been 41 deficiencies noted in inspection reports, with 4 tied to infections, and the last full inspection was over two years ago, which is something to keep in mind. Over the past year, two complaints led to new deficiency citations, and one tag (F0573) mentioned a resident rights issue about access to records, while another (F0689) cited problems in making sure accidents are prevented and supervision is solid, so there's room for growth there, but on the other hand, Ocean View hosts community events like Septemberfest, and works closely with Thomas Chambers and David Johnson. The facility is privately managed, with somewhere between 51 and 200 employees, and provides a clean, well-maintained campus, offering everything from short-term rehab services to long-term support, and there are options for independent and assisted living, as well as specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care. There's a strong focus on matching care to each person's needs, and staff include compassionate nurses and rehab professionals. Social workers help patients and families, and there's a program of uplifting activities and social events that aim to support both health and independence. Care plans get made together with residents and families, making sure people have a say in their treatment. There's always an effort to create a safe and secure space for everyone, and with the different levels of care on campus, people can find help as their needs change.
