    Beautiful campus but lacks diversity

I visited and found the campus clean, beautiful and inviting — great food, a big theater, lots of activities, multiple care levels and housing options, and generally friendly, accommodating staff and residents who felt family-like. That said, I personally experienced discriminatory staff behavior and an all‑white, not very inclusive resident environment that made me uncomfortable. It’s high quality but very expensive with a large buy‑in fee; I’d recommend it only if you can afford it and are okay with the lack of diversity.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans positive on facility quality, amenities, and everyday life while raising important concerns about cost and inclusivity. Multiple reviewers praise Royal Oaks-CCRC for its high standards of upkeep, welcoming atmosphere among many residents, and a strong program of activities. At the same time, several reviewers called out significant negatives — chiefly the high cost of entry and reports of discriminatory behavior and a lack of diversity — which temper the otherwise favorable impressions.

Care quality and staffing: Reviews commonly describe staff as friendly and accommodating, and several summaries explicitly characterize the environment as family-like and high quality. Staff behavior is cited as a strength when it comes to accommodation and creating a welcoming environment for many residents. However, at least one review describes discriminatory staff behavior and an uncomfortable experience, indicating that staff performance and sensitivity may be inconsistent. This split suggests that while clinical and daily-care aspects are generally well regarded, interpersonal dynamics and cultural competency could be an area of concern for some prospective residents.

Facilities and living options: The facility itself is repeatedly described as clean, inviting, and beautiful, with a range of housing options (condos, small houses, and apartments) and multiple levels of care available. The availability of different living configurations and care levels is a clear advantage for residents seeking long-term continuity of services as needs change. Amenities such as a large theater room were specifically noted, which supports a perception of robust on-site recreational and social infrastructure.

Dining and activities: Dining receives positive mentions, with several reviewers saying the food is very good. Activities are frequently highlighted as plentiful, which contributes to an active lifestyle for residents. The combination of strong programming and communal spaces appears to support social engagement and resident satisfaction for many people who reviewed the community.

Cost and financial considerations: A recurring and significant negative theme is expense. Reviewers pointed to the community as "very expensive" and noted a "large buy-in fee." These comments indicate that cost is a barrier for some families and an important factor to weigh. High upfront and ongoing costs are typical in continuing-care retirement communities and, in these reviews, are explicitly cited as a drawback despite the quality of services and amenities.

Inclusivity and diversity concerns: Perhaps the most serious pattern in the reviews is concern about inclusivity. One or more reviews report discriminatory staff behavior, an "all-white" resident environment, and an uncomfortable experience tied to a lack of inclusivity. These reports stand in contrast to other comments about happy and welcoming residents and suggest that experiences may vary significantly depending on individual interactions and expectations. Because these are serious allegations that directly affect resident wellbeing, they should be treated as an important factor for prospective residents — especially those from underrepresented backgrounds — to investigate further.

Overall balance and recommendation for prospective residents: In sum, Royal Oaks-CCRC appears to offer high-quality facilities, varied housing and care options, plentiful activities, and good dining — features that many reviewers praised and some even recommended. The primary tradeoffs are cost and reported issues around inclusivity and occasional discriminatory behavior. Prospective residents and families should weigh the high financial commitment against the strong amenities and generally favorable reviews of care and activity programming. They should also actively inquire about the community’s diversity, inclusion policies, staff training, and how the community responds to concerns about discrimination. A thorough tour, conversations with current residents (including people from diverse backgrounds if possible), and clear explanations of fees and refund policies will help determine whether Royal Oaks-CCRC is the right fit given both the positive strengths and the notable concerns raised in these reviews.
