    Caring, attentive staff; highly recommended

I placed my mom at Powell Place and couldn't be happier. The small, home-like community has caring, attentive staff who provide 24/7, personalized, resident-centered care - they go above and beyond, help with appointments/benefits, and treated my mom like family. She's eating better, socializing, and busy with activities; the building is clean, safe, and well maintained, and our family has real peace of mind. I highly recommend touring it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive. Most reviewers emphasize compassionate, attentive, and knowledgeable staff who go above and beyond routine duties. Multiple accounts highlight certified caregivers and well-trained team members who provide hands-on assistance, medication supervision, accompaniment to doctor visits, and coordinated care with hospice when needed. Families repeatedly describe the staff as family-like, devoted, and genuinely caring — phrases such as "Dream Team" and comments about residents being treated with love and respect recur throughout the reviews. The facility also earned a high overall rating in the summaries and many reviewers state they would highly recommend the community.

Staff and management receive particularly high marks. Reviewers named specific personnel — Sales Director Bobbe Exe and Activities Director Chelsea — for outstanding service, compassionate tours, helpful move-in support, and proactive programming (anecdotes include going the extra mile like rolling up windows during rain). Several comments mention supportive management that cares both for residents and staff, and staff willingness to help families navigate benefits such as VA claims. The smaller size of the community is noted as a positive factor, fostering familiar, personalized interactions and good continuity of caregivers so residents form friendships and families feel secure.

Facility and environment are another recurring strength. The property is described as beautiful, spotless, well-maintained and updated, with pleasant sunny dining areas, large rooms, handicapped-accessible features, private and semi-private room options, and attractive outdoor spaces like patios, decks and backyards with views. Pet-friendly policies and a homelike atmosphere are frequently mentioned, contributing to residents' comfort and family satisfaction. Multiple reviewers noted the facility smelled fresh, was organized, and presented very well during tours.

Dining and activities are generally praised. Many reviewers describe home-cooked meals served three times a day and a pleasant dining experience, and the activities program is described as engaging and varied with daily offerings that keep residents busy and socially connected. Residents are reported to enjoy events, watch televised events together (for example the Olympics), and participate in outings. Activities staff are described as energetic and proactive, and the community's scheduling and operations are characterized as organized and efficient.

Care coordination, safety, and peace of mind: several reviews stress round-the-clock care, attentive supervision, and strong coordination with outside providers such as hospice, which gives families significant peace of mind. Staff assisting residents to access benefits and manage medical appointments was highlighted as an important practical benefit. That said, reviewers did note a few safety and operational concerns: one report described reckless driving by a van driver and questioned transportation reliability, and a small number of reviews mentioned that communication with families could be improved. Another notable concern in a minority of summaries was limited care capacity — an impression that the facility may not be able to accept or adequately serve all needs at times.

Other negatives are infrequent but present: a few reviewers found the meals unsatisfactory, at least for particular residents, and some commented that costs were high. These critiques are far less common than the praise but are recurring enough to mention for prospective residents and families to consider. Overall, the dominant patterns are of a compassionate, hands-on staff; a clean, attractive facility; active and engaging programming; and strong family recommendations. The small-community, resident-centered approach appears to be the defining characteristic most praised across reviews, while transportation safety/reliability, occasional communication gaps, cost, and capacity limitations are the main concerns to watch for when evaluating fit.

    About Avista Senior Living Payson

Avista Senior Living Payson offers a range of senior care options for people over 55, whether someone wants independent living, needs assisted living, or requires memory care or skilled nursing, and the campus provides different levels of care so you or your loved one can stay in one place even if health needs change over time. Assisted living residents get help with daily tasks like dressing, bathing, meals, and medication management, with staff available at all hours and care tailored through individual plans, while memory care serves those living with Alzheimer's or dementia and skilled caregivers provide oversight, help with chronic conditions like diabetes, and support for changing needs. The apartments come as studios or one-bedrooms and have kitchenettes, private mailboxes, carpet, climate control, and plenty of closet space, and there are safety features like illuminated entryways, smoke detectors, and sprinklers everywhere, plus wheelchair-accessible showers and an emergency call system. Residents can bring their own pets, which means there are companions and familiar faces in the community, and the outdoor spaces, patio gardens, enclosed courtyard, and main street areas give residents places to walk, relax, or sit with neighbors, and there's even resident parking. Housekeeping, laundry, and apartment maintenance are all handled by staff, with guest meals, room service, and a hair salon available, and the community serves daily meals and snacks supervised by a dietician to help make sure dietary needs are met. Residents can use the library, movie room, fitness center, piano or organ, computer room, TV lounge, and enjoy free Wi-Fi, and there's always a schedule full of social programs like bingo, card games, gospel sing-alongs, cooking club, arts and crafts, visiting music, and group outings to town or scenic drives. Religious services, including a visiting chaplain, and devotional programs run regularly, and the staff helps with transportation to doctor appointments, shopping, or events outside the community, which sits close to local shops, activities, and dining. For those who need only short-term stays-such as while recovering from injury or surgery-respite care is available, and urgent placement can be arranged if needed. Caregivers get specialized training, and a team led by Resident Care Partners aims to help each resident thrive, keeping body, mind, and spirit healthy, and the community tries hard to balance help with independence, making sure there's privacy, safety, and space for personal items in each apartment. The common areas like living rooms with a fireplace, dining rooms, activity rooms, and cozy nooks give residents options for gathering or quiet time, and there's a focus on helping people stay active, social, and connected to others. Avista Senior Living Payson is an award-winning community set up for comfort, safety, and resident well-being in Payson, Arizona.
