    Neglect, equipment failures, unsafe care

I stayed 12 days and experienced serious neglect: feeding-tube malfunctions, improperly installed/leaking equipment, residents left cold with teeth chattering, staff walked out, and the nurse was rarely present - equipment failed daily and tech/nurse delays were common. Management refused an adequate refund and had falsely advertised feeding-tube/trachea capability. That said, some caregivers were kind, the home was clean, food was excellent and family-run, but for anyone with complex medical needs this place is dangerous and overpriced.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews present a sharply mixed picture of Golden Times. Several reviews praise the facility for compassionate, family-style care, clean surroundings, good food, and attentive owners and caregivers. However, an equally serious set of reviews alleges significant safety and quality failures — including equipment malfunctions, improper installation, feeding-tube problems, and prolonged periods of neglect. These polarized accounts suggest that while some families have strong, positive, long-term experiences, others have encountered potentially dangerous lapses in clinical care and staffing.

Care quality and clinical safety: The most serious themes concern clinical capability and safety. Multiple negative summaries report inadequate care that persisted for extended periods (one account cites 12 days), statements that the facility misrepresented its ability to manage feeding tubes and tracheostomies, and incidents of feeding-tube malfunction with leaks onto the patient. Equipment issues are repeatedly mentioned: daily equipment failures, improperly installed devices, and supplies that were not verified. Reviewers described patients being left cold (teeth chattering, described as 'freezing'), delays in getting assistance from a trained nurse or tech, and an overall lack of nursing presence (nurses 'rarely visited' or were 'not present daily'). These reports point to critical risks for residents with complex medical needs and indicate gaps in clinical oversight, equipment maintenance, and timely response.

Staffing, management, and communication: On the positive side, several reviewers emphasize friendly caregivers and a family-run atmosphere; owners visiting daily and a named caregiver (Joy) being trusted are highlighted as strengths. Hospice referrals were reportedly handled promptly in at least one positive review. Conversely, concerns about staffing instability surfaced, including accounts that staff 'walked out' and that nurses were not consistently onsite. Complaints include delays getting trained staff and insufficient verification of equipment and supplies. One reviewer explicitly warned families about misrepresentation and requested refunds or proration due to perceived poor care, indicating breakdowns in communication and contract expectations between families and management.

Facilities, dining, and environment: Positive reviews consistently mention a clean home environment and 'delicious meals.' Those satisfied with the facility describe respectful treatment, kindness, and long-term satisfaction with care and food. Negative reviews, however, emphasize that equipment-related failures and installation errors undermined resident safety and comfort despite an otherwise clean setting. There are no detailed mentions of activities or enrichment in the summaries provided, which may indicate that food, cleanliness, and personal attention are the primary non-clinical strengths called out by reviewers.

Patterns and recommendations for families: The reviews form two distinct patterns — one of high-touch, compassionate care in a family-run setting, and another of significant clinical and operational failures that caused direct harm and distress. For families considering Golden Times, these patterns suggest verifying the facility's advertised clinical capabilities (especially around feeding tubes and tracheostomies), asking for proof of recent equipment maintenance and installation checks, confirming daily nursing coverage and response times for emergencies, and clarifying refund/proration policies in case care expectations are not met. If a prospective resident requires complex medical supports, families should seek documentation of staff training and on-site nursing schedules before placement.

Bottom line: Golden Times elicits strong praise for its compassionate, family-oriented caregiving, cleanliness, and meals from some residents and families. However, serious allegations of misrepresentation, equipment failures, infrequent nursing presence, and episodes of neglect from other reviewers create significant safety concerns for residents with medical complexity. The mixed reports make it important for families to perform targeted due diligence on clinical capabilities, staffing stability, and equipment management before committing to placement.

    About Golden Times

Golden Times sits in Surprise, Arizona, and quietly goes about its business as a place for elders who need some help with daily living, like bathing, dressing, or moving around, and the caregivers stay on site all day and night to keep an eye on things, which puts families at ease. Residents can pick from studio, single, or two-bedroom spaces, with the rooms having useful things like accessible features for wheelchairs, kitchens or kitchenettes, washers and dryers, cable TV, and safety features with sprinkler systems. There's a dining room where everyone can eat together, with meals made for many different diets, including options for those with allergies or diabetes, and folks can eat at set times or choose all-day dining when it fits their schedule, and the staff takes care of the cooking, serving, and dishes, so no one has to worry about that. The property has gardens, walking paths, a fitness center, salon, games and activity rooms, and plenty of space for residents to meet up and spend time together, making it feel like a real home instead of an institution.

There are a lot of activities planned throughout the week like movie nights, arts and crafts, educational classes, health and wellness programs, social gatherings, and on-site devotional activities for those who want spiritual connection, and everything's meant to help residents stay active in body and mind, whether someone likes a quiet walk outside or lots of friendly conversation indoors. Residents who can't get out and about on their own will find staff ready to help with wheelchairs or walker assistance, and there are help options for medication management, transfers, bathing, dressing, and incontinence care for those who need more support. Laundry and dry cleaning happen regularly, and housekeeping's included, so rooms stay tidy and laundry doesn't become a burden. Transportation and parking are arranged if residents want to go to appointments or outings, and for families who need a short break, there are respite programs for temporary stays. Security feels steady because of emergency alert systems and all-day supervision.

Golden Times works with long-term care insurance, and the care types include assisted living, memory care, independent living, and skilled nursing, as well as smaller adult care homes with space for ten or fewer residents, so some folks can live in a close-knit, home-like group where meals and activities get done together. Caregivers handle personal care and keep the atmosphere friendly while supporting medical needs, like diabetic or non-ambulatory care, and there's someone who can coordinate move-ins so that new residents settle in as smoothly as possible. The facility doesn't push fancy extras but does pay attention to safety, comfort, and daily support, making sure elders who move there can count on good meals, pleasant company, and help when they ask for it.
