    Kind staff, but safety concerns

My experience was mixed. The staff I dealt with were often kind, caring, and went the extra mile - the grounds, outdoor space, food, and some long-tenured employees felt like family and my parent adjusted well. However, I also witnessed rude, unprofessional and at times abusive behavior, poor communication and management, cleanliness and safety issues (dirty shower, filthy fan, broken furniture), noisy hallways/kitchen, and a steep $500 move-in fee. I moved out after four days - could be great for some families, but it wasn't the right or reliably safe fit for us.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across reviews is highly polarized: a substantial number of reviewers give very positive accounts of Legacy Assisted Living — praising the caring, attentive staff, clean appearance, pleasant grounds, homemade food, and improvements in residents’ wellbeing — while a significant minority reports serious concerns about hygiene, staff behavior, management, and safety. This split suggests inconsistent experiences that may depend on timing, specific staff on duty, or individual resident needs.

Care quality and staff: Many reviews highlight compassionate, hands-on staff who take time to calm residents, perform personal care tasks (laundry, hair curling, bedding changes), and maintain a family-like atmosphere. Several reviewers specifically note long-tenured employees and staff who 'go the extra mile.' These positive accounts include reports of residents adjusting well, showing health or cognition improvements, and being treated with dignity. Conversely, there are multiple, very troubling allegations of abusive or unprofessional behavior — yelling, mistreatment, accusations that staff discouraged visitors, and even one report that alleged behavior precipitated a heart attack. Several reviewers describe rude, vulgar, or interrogative staff interactions. The presence of both consistently praised and severely criticized staff behavior points to uneven staffing quality and possible issues with training, oversight, or turnover.

Facilities and cleanliness: Many families describe the facility as clean, well-kept, and free of typical 'nursing-home' odors, with pleasant grounds and a large courtyard used for outdoor activities. Others, however, report strikingly poor conditions in individual rooms: used Q-tips left on shower floors, filthy fans above beds, broken furniture, clothing left in chests from prior residents, and general neglect in specific units. Reviewers also characterize the building as older and not modernized. The combined message is that while common areas and grounds may be well maintained, the condition of individual rooms and unit-level housekeeping/maintenance is inconsistent.

Dining and activities: Food receives mostly positive feedback, described as homey or homemade (including specific praise for Mexican food), and several reviewers say there were no complaints about meals. The facility has a full-size kitchen. At the same time, the dining area is described as small by some, and the facility overall lacks modern amenities or 'bells and whistles' that some families expect. Outdoor activities and an active living space are viewed positively, and the grounds are a consistent strength.

Management, ethics, and administration: Accounts of management responsiveness are mixed. Some reviewers praise a 'spectacular' manager who resolves issues quickly, while others describe unresponsive leadership and situations where residents/families moved out after only a few days due to unacceptable conditions. There are multiple serious allegations related to management and ethics — reports of nepotism (relatives employed or owner’s son posting positive reviews), conflict of interest, and suggestions of favoritism. Additional reports include employee misconduct (an employee seen with alcohol) and claims that the facility may prioritize money over resident welfare. These governance concerns contribute heavily to the negative sentiment among some reviewers.

Safety, consistency, and major patterns: Several reviewers specifically praise safety measures and staff who do not over-sedate residents (not 'drugged' compared to prior placements), and some note that staff are experienced with wanderers and promote a loving environment. At the same time, multiple reviews raise alarms about inconsistent care quality, nighttime staffing problems, discouraged visitation, and even alleged harm to residents. Noise (from the kitchen and hallway conversations) and a 'not-home' or 'unacceptable assisted living' feeling are further complaints. The mix of strongly positive and strongly negative reports signals high variability — many residents and families are pleased, but some have experienced significant, even potentially unsafe issues.

Conclusion and considerations: The reviews suggest that Legacy Assisted Living can offer very good, compassionate care and a pleasant physical environment for many residents, but there are recurring and serious complaints that prospective residents and families should not ignore. If considering this community, visitors should conduct multiple daytime and nighttime visits, meet direct caregivers and the on-shift manager, inspect specific rooms closely (including bathrooms, fans, and furniture), ask for recent inspection reports or citations, request staffing ratios and turnover rates, inquire about background checks and substance policies, and speak with current families about recent experiences. Given the allegations around management and ethics, ask about ownership/staff relationships, grievance procedures, and how complaints are documented and resolved. The polarized nature of reviews underscores the importance of thorough, up-to-date, first-hand evaluation before making a placement decision.

    About Legacy Assisted Living

Legacy Assisted Living, also known as Legacy of Hemet, sits on South San Jacinto Street in Hemet, California, and looks like any quiet neighborhood place, where seniors find a homelike setting with caring staff and simple comforts, and you'll see folks coming and going, living as independently as they can. The community offers a mix of living choices like independent apartments, assisted living rooms, and memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, plus extra skilled nursing when people need it, and the living spaces include private or semi-private rooms with baths, step-in showers, and comfortable furnishings, with some even having washers, dryers, and cable TV hookups, so people don't feel like they're missing out on the basics of home.

There's always something going on for those who like to stay busy, with daily activities like bingo, crafts, pool, and dancing or sitting out in the secure courtyard, and you'll hear about the fitness center, game rooms, and special common areas, like the ice cream parlor or themed nooks, that make the place lively and friendly. For meals, the staff cooks and serves residents in a dining room and pays attention to special diets for those who need them. Staff do the housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and help residents with anything from dressing and bathing to handling medications, and they've got personal care assistants and LVNs around all day and night, so help is never far for anyone who needs it, with a physician on call and a phlebotomist for blood draws, plus dental and rehab services when necessary.

Legacy Assisted Living's team includes managers Michelle Kellogg and Lamberto H Valiente, and the place gets oversight from Aquilon Business Services Inc., all meeting California's requirements for a residential care home for the elderly, with the necessary licensing and up-to-date compliance filings to give families peace of mind. The family-owned atmosphere shows up in little touches, like devotional services, a safe and beautiful courtyard, and a cheerful approach from staff, along with care services ranging from basic aid to skilled nursing for more complex needs, post-surgery care, diabetic and incontinence assistance, wound or catheter care, colostomy support, and even hospice waivers, so folks can stay put as their needs change.

Legacy of Hemet has 28 residential rooms, and they allow pets, within reason, and offer all-inclusive pricing, so residents and families know what to expect. The facility plans all kinds of activities, from arts and crafts to health and wellness programs and education sessions, so folks can stay active in mind and body. Transportation, daily housekeeping, personal linen, and laundry are all included, and there's a salon/barbershop on call for good measure, plus Wi-Fi, safety features like a sprinkler system, and handicap-friendly amenities. If someone needs extra help now and then, the facility provides respite care and short-term stays, and for those looking for some independence, there are studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartment options.

Legacy Assisted Living takes care to tailor support for each resident, whether it's help with daily living or just offering a safe, pleasant, and lively place to call home for as long as someone needs.
