    Pleasant staff, serious safety concerns

I placed my father at Leisure Lodge - the staff are pleasant and informative, the property and amenities are well maintained, and his room is clean. However, frequent staff turnover, unresponsive call buttons, smoking in hallways with smoke alarms, sticky floors and narrow doorways, inconsistent meals and lack of dietary accommodations, plus serious incidents (neglect leading to injury and roommate deaths handled without privacy) leave me recommending it only with reservations.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment about Leisure Lodge is mixed and somewhat polarized: some family members report very positive experiences—clean rooms, great staff, well-maintained grounds, and satisfaction with care—while other reviewers report serious concerns about safety, cleanliness, staffing reliability, and food service. The reviews cluster into clear positive themes (friendly staff, pleasant grounds, adequate common areas, and convenient location for some families) and worrisome negatives (staffing instability, alleged neglect, smoking inside, meal problems, and privacy/safety incidents).

Care quality and safety emerge as the most significant and conflicting themes. Several reviewers explicitly praise staff and say their relatives are “doing great” and “well cared for.” Conversely, there are strong, specific allegations of patient neglect that reportedly resulted in injury, and multiple mentions of roommate deaths. These more severe concerns are amplified by reports that staff turnover is high and beepers/call systems are sometimes unresponsive, which families interpret as potential contributors to delayed care. Taken together, these accounts suggest variability in care quality that may depend on staffing levels or particular shifts/rooms.

Staff and communication present a split picture. Multiple reviewers call staff pleasant, informative, and caring, and at least one family would recommend the facility. The owner shows prospective families around, and some visitors found the tour helpful. At the same time, frequent staff changes and reports of slow response to call beepers undermine confidence in consistent care. There are also privacy concerns: one review mentions staff openly discussing a roommate’s death with others, which raises questions about confidentiality and professional communication standards.

Facilities and accessibility are described with both positives and limitations. The property has common living and dining rooms and an outdoor backyard area that some residents use (including feeding ducks), and some reviewers describe the property as well maintained. However, other reviewers call the facility’s condition “not great,” cite sticky floors and cleanliness problems, and point out narrow doorways that can make wheelchair access difficult. The unit layout is small—four bedrooms total, with two private and two shared—so privacy and roommate compatibility can be an issue for families considering placement.

Dining and dietary accommodation are another important area of concern. Several reviewers report poor meal quality, meals being refused by residents, items out of stock, and a lack of accommodations for special diets. Conversely, some families report no complaints about the food. As with other areas, this appears inconsistent across time or among different residents, indicating that dining experience may vary depending on staffing, supply, or kitchen practices.

Safety and environmental issues deserve attention: multiple reviews allege smoking in hallways and persistent cigarette smoke, and smoke detectors going off were reported. Smoking inside common areas and hallways is especially concerning in a senior living setting for both health and fire-safety reasons. Combined with reports of unresponsive call systems and alleged neglect, these environmental and procedural issues reinforce the need for careful evaluation by prospective residents and families.

In summary, Leisure Lodge receives both very positive and very negative feedback. Positive reviews highlight caring staff, clean rooms in some units, a pleasant outdoor area, and a convenient location for nearby families. Negative reviews raise serious concerns about staffing consistency, responsiveness, patient safety, indoor smoking and smoke alarms, food-service reliability, privacy breaches, and cleanliness. The pattern suggests variability in resident experience—some rooms/shifts/periods provide good care and a pleasant environment, while others do not. Prospective residents and their families should consider in-person visits at different times, ask specific questions about staffing levels and turnover, emergency response procedures, smoking policy enforcement, recent incident history, dietary accommodations, room configuration (private vs shared), and opportunities to speak with current residents or families to get a broader sense of consistency and safety.
