    Gorgeous grounds, compassionate care, hiccups

I chose Laurel Heights for my mom after touring - gorgeous grounds and brand-new, well-appointed rooms; delicious made-from-scratch meals (Chef Israel is a standout); and an attentive, loving staff who truly go above and beyond. There are plentiful activities and strong memory-care programming that keep residents engaged, and the care options give us real peace of mind. A few administrative/communication hiccups and occasional overwhelmed staff have been frustrating, but overall I'd recommend it for the warm, home-like atmosphere and compassionate care.

About Laurel Heights Senior Living & Memory Care

Laurel Heights Senior Living & Memory Care sits northwest of Los Angeles in Moorpark, California, and offers both assisted living and memory care services in a quiet, family-owned setting where the days feel personal and familiar. The community has 80 units spread over two floors with different living options, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, some with balconies and outdoor views, plus pet-friendly policies for those who want to bring along a companion. The well-designed spaces include a grand lobby, several common areas, galleries, a fireplace, piano, fire pit, and patio seating, providing plenty of spots to relax or chat with friends, and there are resident gardens and a community courtyard for those who like to be around greenery.

Residents find activities tailored to their interests, experiences, and current abilities, and there's a full-time engagement director who puts together schedules based on what folks say they like, so days often include music, art, gardening, physical activity, walks, and even family paint and sip events. For those needing more memory support, the team runs special programs using reminiscence, tactile workbenches, and activities to match cognitive skills, and the environment's set up to be both calm and safe.

The community handles meals with a state-of-the-art kitchen that makes nutritious food, catering to dietary restrictions and offering either communal dining or in-room tray service. Snacks and drinks are offered throughout the day, and every apartment has access to the full range of amenities: a gym and fitness/yoga studio, wellness center with visiting physician, art studio, theater, salon, spa, manicure station, common lounge, library, activity room, and a pet park for animal lovers. Residents can join scheduled excursions, use chauffeured transportation, and take part in a wide range of social events, with opportunities to support personal spirituality and pursue old and new hobbies.

Everyday care is covered by 24-hour staff, including caregivers, an onsite property manager, a maintenance team, visiting physicians, a full-time nurse, RN, and LVN staff, and they assist with mobility, medication, oxygen, bathing, dressing, toileting, incontinence management, health checks, and escorting to meals or appointments, with all these health and safety services included so families have peace of mind. Emergency response systems run around the clock, and weekly housekeeping, laundry, and home maintenance are standard, while all utilities except telephone, internet, and cable come included, making it easier to settle in.

Laurel Heights features modern urban architecture with condos, row houses, and well-furnished spaces, and offers personal touches like concierge services and staff who many families say are caring and easy to talk to, making residents feel like part of a close-knit group. The focus stays on relationships, purposeful activities, and catering to memory challenges, giving both independent and assisted living residents the choice to stay as active or quiet as they feel like while still being surrounded by comfort and support.
