    Warm caring staff, excellent amenities

I'm very happy with this community - the staff are genuinely caring and professional, management is well run and responsive, and the building is spotless and beautifully appointed. My husband adapted quickly, enjoys the abundant activities and amenities (movie room, garden, live music, great dining), and the caregivers treat residents like family. Overall a warm, well-staffed place I'd recommend to other families.

    Summary of reviews

Oakmont of Simi Valley presents as a recently constructed, well-appointed senior living community with many features families cite as strengths. The physical plant is frequently described as very clean, attractively decorated, and resort-like, with spacious apartments (often with balconies), a large courtyard and walking spaces, and a broad slate of on-site amenities including a restaurant, fitness center, hair salon, screening room, library, and multiple activity areas. Tours are generally thorough and positive; marketing and admissions staff are often described as professional and patient.

Staffing and direct care receive mixed but often positive comments. Many families describe compassionate, attentive caregivers and med-techs who develop family-like relationships with residents, and several reviewers praised specific activity directors and frontline staff for going above and beyond. Housekeeping and maintenance generally meet expectations, and the community appears to work well with hospice and to support bereavement needs. At the same time, there are recurrent operational concerns: variability in staffing levels and turnover; uneven experience and training particularly in memory care; and instances indicating gaps in care continuity for residents with more advanced or complex needs.

Dining and activities are standout areas for many residents. The community offers restaurant-style dining with meal-tasting options, special menus, and frequent social events; activity programming is broad and includes organized games, live music, crafts, and special events. That said, reviewers also note inconsistency in meal quality—ranging from five-star descriptions to occasions of disappointing dishes—and some desire for more itemized billing related to dining or supplemental services.

Administration and operational processes show both strengths and weaknesses. Management is often described as approachable and responsive, with improvements implemented after feedback. However, families also report communication lapses in specific situations (admissions, last-minute changes, and front-desk responsiveness), concerns about medication administration timelines, and unclear or add-on billing practices from the community and associated pharmacy. There are a small number of serious individual allegations—including missing items and medication-management problems—that prompted family distress; these appear to be isolated but notable and point to the need for tighter clinical and administrative controls.

Overall impression: Oakmont of Simi Valley is a well-equipped, attractive community with strong programming, many caring staff, and a comfortable environment that suits a broad range of residents. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s strong amenities and social offerings against the pattern-level operational issues—particularly around staffing consistency, memory-care experience, medication/pharmacy coordination, and billing transparency—and ask targeted questions and request documentation on staffing ratios, memory-care training, medication-administration protocols, and itemized billing during tours and before move-in.

    About Oakmont of Simi Valley

Oakmont of Simi Valley's a licensed senior living community, license number 565850291, offering a wide mix of living options and care, with independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care services all on one campus, and the place's laid out to support people as needs change, which might be helpful because it cuts down on having to move again later on. The campus is lush, with gardens, walking paths, and pleasant views, and there are places for pets too, so residents who want to keep a companion get to do that. People who live here have access to both inside and outside amenities-there are common areas, a coffee shop, a full dining facility run by an executive chef, and menu options for different diets like diabetic, low-fat, low-salt, and vegetarian, with room service or guest meals when needed. Apartment homes are spacious and come with kitchen appliances or kitchenettes, which is nice if someone likes to prepare simple meals, though housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance are all included.

The staff is trained and offers help with daily activities, medication reminders, and wellness support day and night, and there's a full-time nurse and a salon on-site. Residents who need memory care, including those with Alzheimer's or dementia, get specialized plans and activities meant for them, and the staff keeps close watch over those who need that kind of care. The community supports spiritual needs with devotional services both on and off campus, and it's not all about medical care-there's always some activity happening, whether it's games, arts and crafts, or trips to the local shops, plus a private movie theater and wellness programs like a hot tub spa and exercise equipment, and there's a computer room for those who like to keep up with emails or social media. Families and friends can visit, and overnight guests have accommodations if they ever want to stay, which some folks appreciate. The campus also includes a parking lot for both residents and visitors.

Memory care is a strong part of Oakmont of Simi Valley, and staff design activities and routines, like cognitive games, to engage people with memory loss. Everything's built to fit seniors' needs, from simple recreation to specialized care, all with a focus on keeping things easy, clean, and well maintained. Ivy Park at Simi Valley is part of the offerings here, so residents can expect a choice of community styles and different levels of service. The dining experience has earned praise, and plenty of social events encourage neighbors to interact. On the whole, Oakmont of Simi Valley provides a peaceful, vibrant setting for seniors who want to live in a community with support and care options, whether they're active and independent or need daily help.
