    Immaculate compassionate home, poor communication

I'm grateful I found this small, immaculately clean memory-care home - private rooms, 24/7, patient and compassionate staff, a calm, home-like atmosphere, lenient visiting hours and fair pricing. The owner and caregivers were loving and excellent with dementia/Alzheimer's care. My only real problem was poor doctor communication - we weren't notified when my loved one died. Overall they cared for my family member well and I highly recommend this facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for First Choice Senior Living are overwhelmingly positive. Multiple reviewers use words like loving, compassionate, kind, and caring to describe the staff and the care environment, and several explicitly say they would recommend the facility. Reviewers emphasize a sense of relief and gratitude — phrases such as "feeling lucky" and "best setting" recur — indicating that families feel the facility provides a secure, respectful, and effective environment for their loved ones.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme across reviews is high-quality, person-centered care delivered by patient and compassionate caregivers. Staff are described as loving, kind, and highly attentive; reviewers specifically note 24/7 staff availability and full-time care for residents. There is a clear emphasis on skill with dementia and memory-care needs: reviewers mention that the facility is memory-care focused and that staff handle Alzheimer’s and dementia cases with patience and care. Even when residents are described as "difficult to deal with" due to dementia symptoms, reviewers still praise the staff's ability to manage those challenges, suggesting effective training and hands-on experience with challenging behaviors.

Facility and environment: Multiple comments highlight that the home is brand-new, immaculately clean, and nicely set up. The small, home-like scale of the facility is repeatedly framed as a benefit — providing privacy, quiet, and a calm atmosphere rather than an institutional feel. Private rooms are specifically appreciated, and reviewers note that the overall environment feels peaceful and well maintained. These points paint a picture of a facility that prioritizes resident comfort, cleanliness, and privacy.

Management and policies: Reviewers express a positive impression of ownership and management, describing them as accommodating and flexible. Visiting hours are called lenient, which families value for ease of access. The combination of a supportive owner and accommodating staff contributes to the consistently favorable recommendations seen in the reviews.

Communication and notable concerns: The most significant negative pattern in the reviews relates to communication, particularly clinical communication and notification of critical events. Several reviewers report difficulty with doctor communication or coordination with outside healthcare providers. In one serious instance reviewers noted that the family was not promptly notified of a resident’s death and had to initiate contact themselves. Other comments echo that families sometimes need to reach out proactively to get updates. This is the primary and recurring area of concern and represents the most actionable weakness identified across the reviews.

Dining, activities, and programming: Review summaries do not provide specific information about dining quality, meal service, or the range of activities and programming. Because reviewers focused heavily on staffing, environment, and care, there is insufficient data to evaluate social/recreational offerings or dining services. Prospective families who care about meals and activity calendars should request those details directly during a tour.

Overall assessment and suggestions: First Choice Senior Living appears to excel at compassionate, dementia-capable, round-the-clock personal care in a clean, small, home-like, and private setting with affordable pricing and flexible visitation. The widely positive impressions of staff and ownership and multiple recommendations by families are strong indicators of overall quality. The primary area for improvement is communication: strengthening protocols for coordination with physicians and external providers, and establishing clear, reliable procedures for notifying families about significant changes or emergencies (including end-of-life events), would address the main concern raised by reviewers and further solidify trust with families.

Bottom line: If your priorities are compassionate, dementia-focused care in a clean, quiet, small home with private rooms and 24/7 attentive staff, reviewers suggest First Choice Senior Living is an excellent option. Confirm communication protocols and ask for examples of how the facility handles physician coordination and family notifications during your visit to ensure expectations align.

    About First Choice Senior Living

First Choice Senior Living sits in Murrieta, California, and offers care for a small group of up to six residents, making it a good option for those who like a quieter, more homelike setting, as this place is actually set up in a regular house. Started in January 2019, the facility's got a license to care for seniors at many levels, including assisted living, memory care for those with Alzheimer's and dementia, and even skilled nursing. There's a focus on comfort, safety, and having round-the-clock staff, with two female caregivers working all hours. Residents can pick from several room types, from private rooms with their own bathrooms to shared rooms, all fully furnished and with climate control, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and even kitchenettes, so you've got what you need right in your space.

Meals here are home-style, served in a family setting, with options for diabetes and other dietary needs, and there's always a chef making sure food is healthy and tasty. There's a dining room where all-day dining is offered, and staff handle both meal prep and cleanup, so seniors don't need to do chores. Activities range from community-sponsored events, movie nights, games, music, and karaoke to holiday parties and daily programs like stretching classes, keeping folks busy and social. There are also gardens and walking paths outside for fresh air and some quiet time. The facility supports religious and devotional activities on-site and arranges for worship services nearby if needed.

Care services include help with bathing, grooming, dressing, and medication management, plus support for those with diabetes or in need of non-ambulatory care. Staff can help with transfers, including for residents who use wheelchairs, and there's a 24/7 emergency call system for peace of mind. Nurses and wellness team members are on-site all day and night, helping residents stay safe and healthy, and the home works with outside healthcare providers to make sure everyone's medical needs are met. There's also memory care with special activities and programs for those dealing with memory loss.

Housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance all come included, so residents can spend their days enjoying themselves instead of worrying about chores or upkeep. Transportation is offered for medical appointments, and there's parking for those who drive. Internet, cable, and phone services are available, and the facility is pet-friendly for those who want to bring a small animal companion. With a low resident-to-caregiver ratio and a license verified by Care.com, First Choice Senior Living offers a more personal touch than some larger places, all in a setting that puts comfort, care, and safety first. Private rooms have a set cost of $4,500 a month, and respite care is available when needed.
