    Beautiful facility but staffing issues

I moved my parent here and have been impressed by the beautiful, open facility, caring and professional staff (special thanks to Move-In Coordinator Kaylee Higgins), excellent food, plentiful activities, and great amenities like the gym, therapy, salon and theater. Move-in was seamless and residents seem to be thriving, but staffing is inconsistent - we've seen lapses in care and food-handling/kitchen cleanliness concerns that management needs to fix given the cost. Overall I'm grateful for many of the staff and would recommend with reservations: confirm current staffing and kitchen practices before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews of Clearwater Newport Beach is predominantly positive about the environment, amenities, and many members of the staff, but there are recurring and important concerns around staffing consistency, training, and operational hygiene that temper the otherwise favorable impressions.

Staff and care: The reviews consistently praise front-line staff as kind, enthusiastic, understanding and professional. Multiple reviewers singled out the smooth move-in experience and ongoing guidance, with a specific positive mention of Move-In Coordinator Kaylee Higgins. Many accounts emphasize that staff are attentive, responsive to concerns, and make residents and families feel valued — even saying residents are "thriving" and that the change was a "night-and-day difference" compared with prior facilities. However, these positive comments are counterbalanced by multiple reports of inconsistent caregiving, inadequate training for some caregivers, and at least one serious safety-related incident (a resident fall after six months). Several reviewers explicitly called the community "severely understaffed" at times, and noted that staffing inconsistency has led to variable care quality. This creates a split pattern: exceptional interpersonal experiences and compassion from some staff members, alongside documented lapses in care continuity and skill that may affect resident safety and confidence.

Facilities and amenities: The physical plant and amenities receive uniformly high marks. Reviewers describe the campus as beautiful, open, airy, immaculate, well-appointed and comfortable. Specific on-site features repeatedly mentioned include functional private rooms with nice décor, multiple social spaces, attractive scenery, an on-site gym, physical therapy program, movie theatre and salon. Proximity to doctors and an inviting environment for families are also frequently cited. The facility appears to deliver on its promise of premiere features and attention to detail, contributing strongly to positive impressions and a comfortable adjustment for new residents.

Dining and kitchen operations: Dining is one of the most frequently praised areas, with many reviewers calling the food "excellent," "unbelievable" or "incredible," and noting multiple dining options including a café/restaurant and the ability to order meals. This strong praise is somewhat contradicted by discrete but important complaints about kitchen cleanliness and food-handling practices — specifically a report that servers were not wearing gloves. Those latter comments were framed as management issues that need addressing. In short, while the culinary program is a clear strength in terms of quality and choice, there are operational hygiene concerns that should be investigated and remediated to ensure safety and consistency.

Activities and social life: The community is described as lively and socially engaging. Reviewers highlight an abundance of daily activities and an active life enriched by engaging activity staff. Social spaces provide places to gather and families find the environment inviting. These features, combined with supportive staff interactions, appear to contribute materially to resident well-being and satisfaction.

Management, responsiveness and value: Opinions about management and responsiveness are mixed. Some reviewers explicitly praise management for being responsive and making families feel comfortable raising concerns, while others say management needs to do more to address staffing, training, and kitchen hygiene issues. Price/value perceptions also diverge: several reviewers feel the community is a premier, high-value choice, whereas a subset feel the cost is high relative to the inconsistent care or operational lapses they observed. This split suggests that while the facility provides many high-end features and strong customer-facing service elements, there are underlying operational realities (staffing levels, training, kitchen oversight) that undermine perceived value for some families.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The dominant positive themes are excellent facilities, strong amenities, high-quality food (for many), and staff members who are caring, helpful and professional in many interactions — especially during move-in and orientation. The dominant negative themes are staffing shortages and inconsistency, lapses in caregiver training and care quality, at least one safety incident (resident fall), and kitchen cleanliness/food-handling concerns. These mixed signals suggest the community is doing many things well at the property and program level, but should prioritize operational improvements: stabilize staffing levels, strengthen caregiver training and supervision, audit and enforce kitchen hygiene and food-safety protocols, and increase transparency with families about corrective actions. Addressing these issues would likely align the consistently praised aspects (amenities, culture, individual staff members) with dependable, repeatable care quality and safety across all shifts, improving both outcomes and perceived value.
