    Cozy caring home with issues

I placed my loved one in this cozy, very clean four-bedroom home and I'm very satisfied with the loving, patient, deeply caring staff - the director is an earthly angel who gives excellent attention. Meals are homemade from scratch and mostly wonderful, though I wish the food variety/quality were better. It's pricier (we negotiated), activities are very limited, showers may require an outside agency, and there was an upsetting incident with clothes discarded without permission; the house is also a bit dark. Despite those issues, I would recommend this small, personal place for the compassionate care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive about the quality of hands-on care, the attentiveness of staff, and the small, home-like setting at Absolute Care Home. Multiple reviewers emphasize the warmth and compassion of caregivers and the director/owner, calling the director particularly caring and even describing her as an "earthly angel." The small scale — repeatedly described as a four-bedroom private home — is framed as an advantage: it enables individualized attention, close supervision, and a cozy atmosphere. Cleanliness and a homey feel are consistently noted, with several reviewers explicitly praising how clean and well-maintained the space is.

Staff and management receive the most uniform praise. Reviewers use terms like loving, patient, caring, and friendly to describe employees; many single out the director/owner for being involved, attentive, and personally invested in residents' wellbeing. Several comments indicate high satisfaction with daily care, attentiveness to needs, and direct communication with family members. This pattern suggests a stable, engaged leadership and caregiving team that families trust.

Dining is another frequently mentioned positive. Reviewers report home-cooked meals prepared from scratch and appreciate the absence of sugary drinks and snacks, which some see as a health-focused benefit. However, the dining experience is not uniformly praised: a few reviewers mentioned that the food could be improved for picky eaters, indicating menu or preparation preferences may not suit everyone. Overall, meals are perceived as homemade and wholesome, but not universally ideal for those with more particular tastes.

Physical space and activities are more mixed. The small, private-home setting contributes to a cozy environment, but several reviewers note that the home tends to be dark (brown walls, dim lighting) and would benefit from brighter surroundings. There is a recurring concern about sundowning and the timing/management of evening symptoms, suggesting that improved lighting or evening routines might help. Activities are described as very limited, with a small backyard and few organized engagement options mentioned. For families seeking an active activity program or larger outdoor spaces, this facility may feel restrictive.

Operational and policy issues surfaced in multiple reviews and merit attention. There is no in-room TV access, which some residents/families might view as a limitation on personal entertainment or comfort. Showers are apparently provided by an external agency in some cases, which could create coordination or continuity-of-care challenges. One serious administrative concern reported is clothing management: reviewers described clothes being discarded without permission and subsequent calls demanding replacement clothing, which points to a need for clearer protocols around personal belongings. Additionally, Medicare hospice restrictions were noted by at least one reviewer as a limitation on services, indicating potential gaps for residents under certain coverage.

Pricing and value perceptions are mixed. Several reviewers said the cost was better than alternatives and that price could be negotiated, while others described pricing as expensive. This suggests variability in how individual contracts or circumstances affect perceived value. Despite some cost concerns, multiple reviewers indicated they would recommend the facility, reflecting that many families view the high-quality, attentive care as worth the expense.

In summary, Absolute Care Home is consistently praised for its compassionate, hands-on care, clean and cozy small-home environment, and involved director/owner. Its strengths are greatest in individualized attention and a warm caregiving culture. Areas for improvement include enriching activities and outdoor space, brighter and more cheerful interior lighting/decoration, clearer handling of residents' personal belongings (especially clothing), addressing the lack of in-room entertainment options, and smoothing logistics when outside agencies are used for services like showers. Cost perceptions vary, but many reviewers feel the care justifies the price. Families prioritizing close personal attention and a family-like setting are most likely to be satisfied, while those wanting more activities, brighter facilities, or fewer administrative hiccups should weigh these trade-offs carefully.

    About Absolute Care Home

Absolute Care Home sits in a quiet part of Oxnard, CA, near St. John's Medical Regional Center, Fire Station No. 8, and College Park, and the place has a very home-like feeling with space for just six residents, so folks end up forming nice bonds with the staff and each other, and you'll see private bathrooms, indoor and outdoor common areas, as well as a garden where folks can go for garden walks or just sit outside for fresh air. The rooms come fully furnished-you can pick from studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom units-and they keep the place clean with regular housekeeping, laundry, and room cleaning, plus there are kitchens and kitchenettes in the living areas, washers and dryers, and cable or satellite TV in the rooms, and there's always access to Wi-Fi and high-speed internet, so residents can keep in touch or just watch a favorite movie during movie nights. The staff, friendly and trained, work around the clock, and nurses are on staff and on call, handling high-acuity care-including skilled nursing, diabetic care with special diets, memory care for dementia, a Dementia waiver, and Hospice waiver options-so folks get medication management, help with dietary restrictions, and full assistance with daily activities like bathing, dressing, transfers, and toileting. They help arrange doctor appointments, work with healthcare providers, and even have a visiting podiatrist for toenail care, and a pharmacy delivers medications straight to the home at no extra charge, so folks don't have to worry about missing anything. They prepare and serve three meals daily plus snacks for all residents; they take into account special diets-including diabetic plans. There's always some sort of activity, on site or off-like table games, sing-alongs with videos, movies, gentle dancing, and gardening walks-along with structured programs for social involvement, education, fitness, health, and even crafts, not to mention a dining room, a fitness center, a salon/barbershop, and a game room for leisure. Since the place is small, everything feels personal, and they make a care plan for each resident so needs get met in a way that feels right for the individual, and if someone just needs short-term or respite care, the staff can handle that, too. They also offer independent living options for those who can do more on their own, but plenty of help's there if needed, including wheelchair and walking assistance and physical and occupational therapy availability. There's resident parking, guest parking, and complimentary transportation to medical appointments, and the premises stay secure with safety features, handrails, a sprinkler system, and no indoor smoking allowed. Only elderly men and women get admitted, and the place holds a proper license, number 565801201, as a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, which covers folks needing personal care, assisted living, memory support, or skilled nursing services-all delivered with a focus on helping seniors feel welcome, comfortable, and safe, and the environment, quiet and private, lets residents enjoy both community and peace.
