    Spotless, kind staff, limited activities

I stayed here and was very pleased overall - the facility is spotless, the owners and staff are kind, attentive and made admission easy. I received great care and visiting is flexible, though activity options are limited (walks, lunches, shopping, patio workouts) and staff interaction/caregiver coverage can be inconsistent. Meals vary with the cook's background, there are extra nightly charges for in-room help, so I'd give it 4/5.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Sunshine Health Place 2 is positive but mixed: reviewers consistently praise the cleanliness of the facility and describe the staff and owners as nice, attentive, and helpful. Several comments emphasize an easy and accommodating admission process, flexible visiting policies, and that residents received good care — one reviewer even referred to the "best care" and another said they were very pleased with the stay. The facility generally leaves a favorable impression on hygiene, frontline staff demeanor, and administrative friendliness.

However, a number of recurring concerns temper that positive view. The most frequent complaints relate to limited activity programming and social engagement. While reviews note that some activities are offered (walking, lunches, shopping trips, and patio workouts), multiple reviewers felt there were not enough activities overall. That lack of structured engagement ties directly to reports of loneliness; at least one reviewer explicitly described a spouse becoming lonely and mentioned a lack of staff interaction to help alleviate that isolation.

Staffing and care consistency is another notable theme. Although staff are described as caring and attentive when present, reviewers reported inconsistent caregiver coverage. That inconsistency can affect day-to-day support and contribute to uneven experiences between residents. Related to care delivery, there are extra nightly charges for in-room assistance that reviewers flagged; this creates a financial concern that should be clarified by management. Together, these points suggest that staffing levels or scheduling practices may be the source of variable coverage and resident interaction.

Dining impressions are mixed. Several reviewers said meals vary and are provided, but one theme was that meal style or flavor differed depending on the primary cook's nationality, which some reviewers noticed and saw as a negative or at least a source of inconsistency. Overall the dining experience does not appear to be universally praised or criticized, but it is an area where individual preferences affect satisfaction.

In summary, Sunshine Health Place 2 appears to deliver solid baseline care in a clean environment with generally friendly, helpful staff and a welcoming admission process. Primary areas for improvement are increasing the quantity and variety of activities to reduce loneliness and improve social engagement, addressing inconsistent caregiver coverage so care is reliably available, and clarifying any additional fees (such as nightly in-room assistance charges). Attention to these issues would likely raise overall satisfaction while preserving the facility's existing strengths in cleanliness, staff demeanor, and an accommodating management approach.

    About Sunshine Health Place 2

Sunshine Health Place 2 sits in a quiet residential part of Thousand Oaks, inside a regular house that doesn't feel much like a big facility at all, and you'll find room for only about ten residents, so everybody gets more personal care every day, and folks get to know each other pretty well in that small setting, which is especially helpful for anyone needing memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia because they get individualized support, secure surroundings, and staff who pay close attention-sometimes even wearing or using those special bracelets with alarms to help keep people safe if they're prone to wandering. There's 24-hour awake staff on site, and caregivers help with everything from bathing and getting dressed to managing medicine, even checking blood sugar or giving insulin if it's needed, and they can help with incontinence or physical challenges, using lifts if needed and offering plenty of wheelchair-accessible features like the showers and doorways, really making it easier for folks who have trouble moving around.

Residents have choices for rooms, including private or 1-bedroom units, often furnished for some comfort and convenience, and the dining room brings everyone together not just for meals, which are planned and made onsite-and no one's left out if they've got dietary needs for diabetes or allergies, because the staff makes adjustments there too-but also for group activities, movie nights, or just plain old socializing, which is just as important for most older people as anything else, and you'll see communal rooms, a hall for gatherings, a nice garden, walking paths, a front patio, and a backyard where folks often spend time. There's help available for transportation if someone needs to get out or has appointments, and parking for visitors or those who still drive, and it all feels home-like rather than institutional.

For those looking for more than just care with day-to-day life, the staff organizes activities right at home and even trips outside, sometimes connecting with the local community for history lessons or shows or nature visits, which gives something to look forward to, and there's devotional services both onsite and off, recognizing some people want or need that spiritual support too. And for the trickier situations like behavioral issues, residents with elopement risk or those who act out can still find a safe spot here-staff use extra measures for safety and are trained to manage many kinds of behaviors.

Sunshine Health Place 2 has daily housekeeping, laundry, and beautician services, so there's no need to worry over chores or looking presentable, and when someone first moves in, there's a little help to get settled during the transition so it's not so overwhelming. Nurses or healthcare providers are coordinated with as needed, whether someone's recovering, needs therapy, or requires hospice or respite care for a while. The management checks and verifies reviews to ensure they're from real families, which keeps things somewhat transparent, and the staff stay focused on making sure families feel confident with their choices, even connecting them with advisors who know the ropes for free. The whole approach seems aimed at keeping things simple, personal, and as familiar-feeling as possible, and for families considering memory care or assisted living, this quiet suburban house on Norman Avenue has built a good reputation for being attentive and steady, carrying a strong 4.5-star rating from reviews.
