    Loving care but falls risk

I placed my mom here for two years and we received loving, highly personalized care - compassionate, well-trained staff (Raymond, Lulu/Mayra and Ramon stood out), home-cooked meals, daily baths, and an owner (Patty) who goes out of her way. The home is clean, bright, family-style, residents are treated with dignity and families are kept involved - I highly recommend it. My major concerns: falls are a real risk (my mom fell on her first day), the facility needs bed alarms/guard rails, and staffing can be thin (sometimes 2 staff for 6 residents), so it's not suitable for non-ambulant or very frail people.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with the majority of summaries emphasizing warm, family-style care, cleanliness, and personalized attention. Reviewers repeatedly describe caregivers as compassionate, respectful, and attentive—many note that staff treat residents like family and remember them by name. Several individual caregivers are singled out multiple times (notably Raymond and Myra, as well as Lulu, Ramon, and Mayra), and the owner (Patty) is cited for being helpful and responsive. Long-term stays are reported positively (one reviewer cited a nine-year placement and another two years), and multiple reviewers explicitly highly recommend the home.

Care quality is rated very highly in most summaries. Reviewers highlight 24/7 care availability, dignity and respect in interactions, and coordinated support with outside services such as home health visits twice a week, Physical Therapy, hospice care, and transportation. Families appreciated help with health care navigation and being kept informed, including sensitive practices like maintaining privacy during goodbyes. Emotional support from caregivers and a sense of safety and relief for families are recurring themes.

The physical environment and daily living aspects receive consistently positive remarks: homes are described as very clean, bright, cozy, and well-maintained, with a home-table dining atmosphere. Food is frequently praised as home-cooked from scratch and delicious, and reviewers mention daily bathing and attention to special dietary needs. The facility also hosts family-inclusive events—birthdays and holidays are celebrated—which contributes to the home-like atmosphere. One location is noted for spectacular Conejo Valley views, which is an added environmental benefit.

Management and staff organization are generally described as professional and well organized. Reviewers emphasize respectful and dignified care, compassionate caregiving, and staff who go out of their way to meet needs. Several comments single out the owner for hands-on involvement and for making residents and families feel supported. These managerial and staffing strengths are tied to the frequent strong recommendations from families and long-term positive experiences.

However, there are important and recurring safety-related concerns that temper the overwhelmingly positive feedback. Multiple reviews indicate that the home is ambulant-friendly but not appropriate for non-ambulatory or very frail residents. One specific reviewer reported that their mother fell on her first day, and falls are noted as a top concern. Relatedly, reviewers suggested safety improvements such as installing guard rails and bed alarms to help prevent falls. Understaffing is another cited issue in at least one summary (example: two staff caring for six residents), which can amplify safety risks for residents who require more assistance.

In summary, Thousand Oaks Home Care - 9 Sidlee is described by most reviewers as a clean, cozy, family-like home that delivers compassionate, personalized care and high-quality home-cooked meals, with strong owner involvement and good coordination of external health services. The staff are repeatedly praised by name for their kindness and professionalism. Prospective families should note, however, that the setting is best suited to ambulatory or moderately mobile seniors; families of very frail or non-ambulatory residents should carefully assess staffing levels, fall-prevention measures (bed rails, alarms), and the provider’s capacity to manage higher-care needs before placement.

About Thousand Oaks Home Care - 9 Sidlee

Thousand Oaks Home Care - 9 Sidlee sits right in a peaceful, residential part of Thousand Oaks, California, at 9 West Sidlee Street, and has a license through the California Department of Social Services with license number 565850195, so folks know they're in a place with real oversight, and the whole place looks and feels like a big comfortable house, not some big loud building with too many people coming and going-there's a limit of about six residents at a time, sometimes fewer, so everybody gets more attention. The staff helps people all day and night with things like getting dressed, bathing, walking around, and taking medicine, always close by if someone needs help or has an emergency, and there's an alert system for peace of mind. People can pick a private or semi-private room, and they're allowed to bring things from home to decorate and make it their own. The staff takes care of incontinence needs, helps with meals-three every day, plus snacks, and meals are cooked with health in mind, but they make sure it tastes good too. The staff manages medications safely and works alongside nurses, doctors, and even hospice teams if that need comes up, plus there are doctor and podiatrist visits that come out, and therapy like physical, speech, and occupational sessions if the doctor says they're needed. The home welcomes pets, and there's space outside with walking paths, gardens, fruit trees, vegetable beds, and big patios where folks can get plenty of fresh air or just listen to birds. Activities like movie nights, group meals, music therapy, pet visits, and seasonal celebrations try to keep everyone feeling connected and engaged, and people who need memory care get extra attention so they stay safe and comfortable. Staff is used to supporting folks with changing needs, so they set up personalized care plans and check in with families often, since families are real important in this place. The caregivers are well-trained, and with not too many residents, people get to know each other well, and staff can notice little changes that might mean someone needs more help. Transportation's available to get residents to appointments and errands, there's parking if families visit, and everywhere has sturdy handrails, grab bars, and non-slip flooring so the environment tries to stay as safe as possible. There are five homes run under the Thousand Oaks Home Care name, each with the same approach, focusing on comfort, personal care, and helping older adults hang on to as much independence as they can, whether they need a lot of help or just a bit, and this one on Sidlee offers short stays for respite too, so families can have a break when they need it. The staff always aims for a balance of care and independence, trying to make sure residents feel respected and looked after, all while living in a familiar, family-style setting in a quiet neighborhood.
